To check your email, you can use your normal email program - Thunderbird, outlook, etc
If outlook express, click tools, accounts, add, click mail.
Type in your name, then your email address ( username@stevegleiber.com )
Click next
Mail servers are:
Incoming: mail.stevegleiber.com
Outgoing: your current Isp's mail server (EG: mail.aol.com, etc)
Click next
Account login: username+stevegleiber.com
Password: Your Password (CaSE SenSItivE)
Click next, Click Finish
Click Send / receive.

This is a full, proper pop account not related to this new board, although this board can send to it ..

To send email directly from the board to another member, click email below their name, if they have enabled it in their User Control Panel prefs .. 8-)

Rog ..
Edit: If you don't have / know your Isp's outgoing mail server for sending mail, there is an SSL server built in - I can give you the details but it might be a bit slower - best to use each persons current isp for sending email.

Not near as cool as a SteveGleiber.com address my friend !

Edit - Uploading pictures is easier too now - no more doing the remote url thing - yay !

Note to all - I will try and remove some of the excess 'lines' that this forum has.

Also, Smilies, uploaded pictures and even Avatars can be removed now in the users control panel.

If you don't want users to email you or even see your email address, you can disable that too .

You can also set it so it automatically pops up a message box when you receive a new Personal Message.

You do that in "User Control Panel"

Some notes ...

- This server is faster and *should* have a much better up time. It is based in the USA.

- There is virtually unlimited space and bandwidth available.

- I will add a new, larger font size after I have finalised (finalized ? ;-) the current 'skin' ...

- Some mods or 'hacks' will be added- A calendar function, chat room, etc at a later stage.

- You can now directly upload pictures to this new forum without using the remote url thingy that everyone hated so much.
- Pics can be uploaded straight from your computer now.

- Email accounts (like warrior @ stevegleiber.com ) are free and are full pop3 accounts that can be used with any mail program.
- They don't get 'spam', are never given to anyone, are a really cool address, and are ideal for emailing between other forumites.

- I will try and remove the few extra lines in this forum so it more closely resembles the old forum.

- Users who don't like avatars can turn them off in their account control panel (top right)

- A cool trick is to enable automatic popups when you receive a personal message. (Control panel)

- You can edit messages now that have been posted and even personal messages sent to other users as long as they haven't read them yet.

- If you post a picture, you can set it so it displays at the bottom (default) or click 'inline' to have it display within the message. By clicking on the forum area where it is located, or it's name, it takes you straight to it.

- Flash files are supported now also.

- This forum can now send emails directly to other users without having a mail program -This is handy for when you are on a remote computer or at an internet cafe which might not have an email program properly configured..

- You can create friends and enemies ( - Pffft - as if !) lists in your control panel now.

- You can subscribe to different forums now (Eg: you can be emailed when someone posts a rumour on the rumour mill) so you won't miss out on the latest goss ...

- Users can create bookmarks of favourite forum areas - in the Control panel (top right)

- You can create, edit and save drafts for later posting from the control panel.

- You can manage all your pictures and attachments that you have uploaded via control panel, editing them or removing them - Click "Manage attachments"

- You can add lots of stuff to your profile (which adds things below your posts that you make)
- if anyone knows what the devil a jabber thingy is, then your doing better than me.

- Private messages, as well as posts, can have pictures, attachments (up to 2 megabytes) plus smilies
added to them. These can be disabled at the bottom for that post / message or for all items (control panel)

- You can store hundreds of messages in 8 different folders now.

- Email accounts have 250 meg of space (That's lots ! )

- There are many options for personal messages now (Automatically moving to designated folders, bouncing messages when the inbox is full , etc)

- If you don't wish to view someones postings, add them to your "Foes list" in control panel.

- Important announcements will 'popup' in a window (Best I can tell anyway) when one is sent.
- EG: Next game, injuries, etc ...

- Steves other web pages are back up now - Hyperlinked Designs, Hollywood Cracked, more ..
- If anyone has any pictures, stories, etc to share, if they were to send them to me, I will add them to a memorial page I am creating.

- I am aware of a temporary php error some users may get when posting in certain areas - PhpBB are aware of this error and are creating a fix - it has no effect on your posting / message though.

- It is not possible to import the old thread from the previous forum - it is too large, a different format and I think contains errors. The same is for the passwords and messages. I can update peoples post counts when the other forum is stopped for those who wish though.

- You can add Colour to your posts / messages now ...

More notes coming soon ...

I uploaded zillions - but you can upload one from your comp or another site if you like - space isn't an issue so larger, more complex ones are ok - i think it can do flash ones as well. For those who don't like avatars, they can be turned off .. Note, I have disabled direct linking to remote avatars because if a remote site goes down, it will slow down loading of this site for everyone. Remote avatars can be used by saving them locally to your machine first, then uploading them here.

If any users want to pm other members or friends to try this forum, thats ok. It's not officially online as yet, but whoever wants to have a play with - that's fine. Let me know if anyone has any ideas, or suggestions, etc for it - Links, pictures, stuff moved around, more (or less) of things, features. I have tried to make this board feature rich but still have the same 'feel' as the current board. The current board is getting hammered by spambots daily and is getting harder to maintain. This release of PhpBB is the latest tested version only a few weeks old and is very well supported.

Judith was thrilled that an email domain was added so everyone can have one (or more) email addresses with Steves domain name. Judith's address is : judith @ stevegleiber.com .

Steve's father John has an address also - john @ stevegleiber.com

This new domain has only been up for 7 days now so the 'paint is still drying'.

Perhaps some quick links at the top for other areas of the forum ?

I will be fixing / updating the pics it is using later on too - using Steves original pics where possible or creating new ones in the same vein.

I have tried to keep the signature lines people can use very simple so as not to detract from the scintillating postings that they make ..

Incidentally, after you have made a posting, you needn't select to either to go to the 'last forum visited' or to 'see your post' - just wait 5 seconds and it will automatically go to your posting (classy ...! )

If people want, they can change their email contact address to their stevegleiber.com address and maybe that way keep all their forum messages, subscriptions, emails etc all Forum related. I get a few bounced messages from peoples mail accounts after they have changed Isp's etc. which would alleviate that. - Just a thought ... To check multiple email accounts, I use http://www.eprompter.com which is free and checks 16 email accounts.

I really think most people will want that feature so hopefully it can be worked into the forum.

There's a 113 pages of mod requests here: http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewforum.php?f=72 I wasn't sure what to look for - I suspect there might already be a mod for that as there was one for ver 2 of this board type - it might not be made yet though ..

Note - some 'mods' or 'hacks' are easy to add, others are very difficult to add and can make upgrading the forum software a nightmare.

Yes - by default, I can only set it to do a limiting number of quotes - 3 is what it's on now. The current board we hacked to get it to do what it does. I *think* there might be a hack for this one too but I'm not sure. Re quoting mods are very popular. I have already hacked this one a bit via skinning it - it no longer has the ridiculous lines all thru the quoting which looked garish.

Hi

It's too easy now - scroll down near the bottom when making a posting - click "Browse" and add a pic from your computer there.

To add a remote picture from somewhere on the internet, type or paste in the address in the body of the message, highlite it with the mouse, then click Img at the top above the message box.

The above graphic was done by Steve G for me years ago - I still use it today ..

The current forum is running off my home computers and net connection which gets subject to down time.
So, if I ever move, change Isp, rebuild that machine etc ... the forum will vanish. (It does around 650 meg / day in bandwidth also)

The current forum is beginning to show cracks also - spam bots, edit function not going, no longer updateable, poorly supported, fewer features, etc. These are just due to the age of it's software.

This new forum is much better due to it's support basis, plus the server should have superior uptime and be faster. Updating should be easier, plus with this domain name, other features become available. (Email, ftp, etc ..)

There are more features with this new forum but they can be turned off (mostly) for those who don't wish to use them.

It was never meant to run on my home setup here and was always destined to run under a proper domain name. Judith and John are very happy with the new domain name. I just wanted to have a few users take a look and see what they thought.

Hello New Forum,
Seems more complicated, but I said that about the last one. Luddites forever! I am sure I will get used to it and I do understand the reasons for the change. When will the old forum be turned off?

Have a look in your control panel, top right - you can disable whatever you wish in most instances.

I will likely leave the current forum running to aid in redirects (so people will readily locate the new forum) for quite some time but it may be in an archived or locked state - meaning it may be viewable for a time, but not 'active'. Although the hardware is much better since the last rebuild, the software portion is nearing it's end. The solution Judith and I have devised will give the forum new life via this commercial alternative. (It's a tremendous interface now - for a remote server anyway)
