Keown saying Emery ‘has taken the team as far as he can’ that statement implies forward momentum of some kind. Technically there is a lot further emery can take us backwards

Let Emery fly home from Frankfurt with the team, say his farewells and then let him go. Should be landing in London soon. If the news tomorrow is anything but "Emery sacked" then Arsenal are deservedly a joke.

I would have cancelled his ticket.
Do you think they might be waiting for Wrighty to come out of the jungle to team up with Bergkamph for the rest of the season. Bergy is my pick for the rest of the season as manager. There are worse suggestions in the media.

Er? They were in London all evening. In body if not in spirit. :icon_mrgreen1:

I really do despair at the state of the club. right from top to bottom we’re a total mess and we have been for 10 years.

The players are not trying, they’re playing to get the manager sacked. We’ve seen this from many teams in the past. My issue is I’m not sure the players can ‘turn it on’ for any new manager. Too many of them have been on easy street for too long. Too many of them are simply not good enough and show no signs of improving.

I find it embarrassing that over the last 10 years there hasn’t been a single sustained period of football where as a fan I’ve felt my team were playing with 100% commitment, effort and desire. Yes the odd game but not sustained.

Lol thanks LTG. They were indeed. My revised plans are to fly him one way to Frankfurt then sack him.

I think this squad has the talent to get top 4 at a canter. With some proper management of course. Will be hard work now though.

The club made a decision to implement a European model with technical directors under a wizard of oz type owner ratifying the decisions. It suits Kroenke down to the ground but leaves you open to issues if you get someone who attains too much power.

I don’t think you can blame Raul too much. Apparently he didn’t want Emery and wanted Enrique anyway and I’m not sure I can find it in myself to criticise the recent signings who apart from Ceballos and maybe Luiz have been pretty decent.

Like I said yesterday though. There is a strong element that the people running arsenal are not as good as we used to have. Dein and hill wood would never have recruited Emery.

The board should hang there heads in shame and I don’t trust them to get the right replacement in but I think most of our problems lie on the pitch.

This team needs several players but we are are desperate for a midfield player who can get on the ball and dictate play. A 28 year old Santi if you like. Maybe Isco in the summer but somebody’s required as Xhaka and Guendouzi were appalling last night. We simplying aren’t distributing the ball, moving it quickly, zero one touch.

Paired with the managers inexplicable crazy decisions and negative brand of football it makes for a disaster.

I saw someone suggesting we sack Emery and get someone like Benitez or hiddink in to steady the ship, this also might make sense.

They have to pull the trigger today. I think it’s now unfair on Emery to allow this to continue.

I've seen some people suggest he should do the right thing and simply resign, but in doing so, wouldn't walking away from his contract cost him a fair bit of loot ?
Surely his best plan of action is to keep showing up to work until he's asked not to. I'm guessing he won't even see the week out.

Odds if you're a betting person.

Next Arsenal Manager:
Nuno Espirito Santo $1.83
Mikel Arteta $6.5
Freddie Ljungberg $8
Massimiliano Allegri $8
Mauricio Pochettino $10
Steven Gerrard $15

I agree based on talent....but you don’t get top 4 on talent alone. When is the last time any of these talented players showed courage, leadership, commitment, effort, never say die etc in fact when was the last time we saw any talent from these talented players?

What happens next will define Raul’s tenure at Arsenal. I think he’s just a wheeling dealing dick swinger. Let’s see what he’s made of.

First game I watched fully in a while and this struck me vividly. Teams close us down all over the pitch now, we don’t move the ball quick enough or even play the passes with enough zip. The result is once a player has controlled the ball there is a player in his face which negates any decent, accurate forward pass. Passes go backwards or sideways or are hopefully tossed forwards.

Movement is also key for this. We don’t move to revive the ball.

It all comes back to confidence. If you aren’t confident you take the extra touch, you play the safer pass, you hide! And there is zero confidence or understanding in the manager, his tactics and formations.

At times like this I’m always tempted to say forget the manager and just let the captain and senior players decide how we play. Adams and Vieira yes, current squad - I think we’d be in an even worse mess if we just left it to the players to sort out.

He’s going today if you think about it.

They can’t leave this till tomorrow because Norwich preparations are underway. He’s lost the fans and won’t regain their buy in.

Expect an announcement around midday

Rumours that Freddie would want Sylvain Wilford as a temporary assistant.

Wonder who would make the best permanent manager out of the 2 of them.

Agree entirely and have said the same a couple of times.

The Arsenal need to set the pace. Sack him for incompetence, let him sue us and prove he is competent.

Time to test the system imo............

I almost think the kindest thing for Emery is to sack him. What’s been happening lately must be horrible for him, as well as it has been for us fans.

Would agree. The guy seemingly puts his heart and soul into the job. Doesn't seem to be a bad guy. Couldn't really hate him the way one could easily hate Mourinho or Ferguson.

Absolutely right. He looked broken last night. It's only football when all is said and done.

Your GPS is malfunctioning here Granty .... the match was played at the Emirates .

Put him on the plane with the Frankfurt players would be a better idea ...... with a connecting flight to Vladivostok

Don’t know how true that is

I know it didn't end all that well and there was an obvious frost between he and AW - and by implication, the Club - but my clear preference would be Paddy.

Mertesacker can though and Freddie could assist till he get his badge.

What I'd hate to see is us doing a Man U and changing our manager every few months.

Let's keep it inhouse so many potential managers out there..........................

Has he done a Lampard or proved himself anywhere yet?

And if he doesn't and we have to sack him too?

No please not till he has proved himself.

Inevitable in the end. It just didn't work out, time to move on. Lots of interesting options for a replacement. I like most of the names that have been mentioned, apart from dinosaurs like Benitez and Ancelotti. Nuno, Arteta, Howe, Enrique, Pochettino, Allegri, all would be interesting choices for me.

The squad is good, we can still get top four with the right guy in charge and then build from there in the summer.
