Indeed Haz, I'm watching Everton vs Leicester and there are two very good left backs on display in Chilwell and Digne. Also the Leicester right back Ricardo has been excellent lately. Bournemouth have a promising young player in Brooks. Felipe Anderson at West Ham. Doucure at Watford.

Plenty of promising players in the premier league to go for.

Plus the RB at Crystal Palace Wan-Bissaka has been getting great press at just 18.

Not sure it is unreasonable to have expected some improvements defensively, after all Emery was starting from a very low base. At the very least I expected us to be be better organised and more professional in the way we approached the defensive side of the game, just through work on the training ground alone.

Not at all I have criticised him and will again

1) he’s getting it wrong with Lacazette
2) whilst I understand his feelings about Özil you have to play him. We literally are at bare bones and have nothing else. He’s biting his own nose off until he’s sold.
3) he doesn’t need to make subs every half time. If the game requires it do it but I think there’s been 2 occasions when it wasn’t needed.
4) he should have played 4 at the back more often. It’s making us lose control of midfield a little in some games.

But this aside there’s not many more mistakes as far as I’m concerned as I think it’s a pretty average looking squad we have right now with few dynamic players in it.

Apologies, Top Gun. I thought you were having a go at people on the forum rather than the internet more generally.

I agree with all four of your points. However, the unbeaten run was not a fluke. I think we need to reserve judgment on Emery.

But weren't there some improvements? i.e. before our wobble, which is largely due to injuries?

And quite a few promising centrebacks on display in that game, even on the bench in the form of Mina.

No really, Decaf, all season we have conceded an inordinate number of good chances to average teams despite dominating possession and our goals against stats reflect that.

socrates, do you see it as purely a coincidence that our defensive frailties took off or became worse when Mertesacker stopped playing regularly, either through injury or retirement? Because you used to moan about him constantly. To be honest I respect many of your views on Arsenal, but in my view your opinions on the defensive side of our game have little credibility.

The "air" in the squad seems that they are shook by the Liverpool match. They have started well but there is a palpable lack of confidence in the air.
Hopefully they will win today and regain some of that mojo.

Interesting fact, Ranieiri has never won a PL match at Arsenal.

Bring Chambers back from loan? Does our loan agreement allow it? If it does, at least a stop gap move.

Disjointed and sloppy so far. Very subdued atmosphere. Need a goal to lift things, both the crowd and the confidence.

Sounds like a good job that I can’t get a link then.

Not started well, but that was a very well executed move. From the pass, to Lacazette holding off his defender and letting it go past him, to the run and finish by Xhaka.

Acres of space for Xhaka - their defence doing a fair impression of ours.

Why do opponents always seem to get 2-3 fouls and a final warning before a yellow card?!

Sokratis just made a left wing run, nutmegged his man to cut inside, slipped past another and fired a low shot that was well saved! Where did that come from?

Iwobi having another really good game. Wonderful back heel pass to Kolasinac for that Xhaka chance and a really good cross to Aubameyang that could've led to a goal just now.

Lead at half time but I would like to see us turn it up a level in the second half. Fulham are really poor defensively, a decisive win with a couple of goals would restore some confidence going forward.

Mixed first half, we started low on confidence and grew into the game. Probably should have added a second before HT. Thought Lacazette could have passed that one to Aubameyang for a tap in; but well saved by the keeper.

Yet another half time sub. Torreira on for Mustafi.

Please don’t say that’s Xhaka in a back 3

Every Cb at arsenal believes they can will every ball, sometimes the striker protects it too well and you just need to jockey him and don’t give away the foul. We give away the foul every time
