Great win and a very professional performance.

Obviously the away goal killed the tie.

Some very good performances, Kos, Sok, AMN, Kola, Lacazette and Aubameyang in particular.

Shame about Rambo, I guess his season could be over if its a bad hammie.

Job done with fair less trouble than we would have anticipated.

Not sure what's up with Mika, a few weeks a go I thought he was beginning to find his form and looking a player but lately he's been diabolical.

What a wonderful performance.
Mature disciplined and assured
Was having kittens about this game and we have negotiated it beautifully.
So lovely watching the last 20 minutes almosr stress free.
Most people thought we would get knocked out so well done boys.

I'd say the away goal doesn't succeed in making the away team attack most of the time. Man City took the game to Tottenham for most of the tie. Over the 180 minutes, they were unquestionably the team that attacked more. They went out.

I have two problems with it:

1. There really shouldn't be a reward for scoring the same amount of goals as your opponent.

2. Although it sometimes adds to the excitement it can also kill games in an instant. Tonight's game for example. Say Napoli go in at half time 1-0 up. The tie is beautifully balanced. Say it's still 1-0 with 20 mins left. Tension is building but then Arsenal score and it's all over barring the most unlikely comeback. Worse still is if a team such as Atletico scores an away goal after 5 minutes of the first leg. Cue 175 mins of parking the bus and general shitehousery.

The thinking behind it is admirable and it was probably a very good idea in the days before the back pass rule. But for me it is far too much of a distortion.

I like the old league cup rule - away goals only count after extra time...

Bar Rambo's probably overdue hamstring twinge (the main reason he isn't worth £250k a week for us is that his hamstrings simply don't allow him continuous games when on form), that went about as well as it possibly could. A really professional performance.

Aren't Napoli fans supposed to be ultra-passionate? The stand opposite the main camera tonight looked practically empty.

Well, we got through and again, we kept a clean sheet away. Now, if we can transfer that to the EPL. I am in Los Angeles for a couple days more and stopped by the Fox and Hounds pub to watch the match. The LA Arsenal club is there as well as Chelsea's. The Chelsea fans, which has a few Brits were in full song in their half of the pub and their songs were funny I must admit. They have a Fabregas song about him having a magic hat. There is a Giroud song about he used to a wanker but now he's a Blue. And songs calling Chelsea "The Chelsea" and a Library/Highbury song.

I didn't think lightening would strike twice for Ajax but it has. Has a feel like our run to the final. I can't see them winning everything though. But, pedants may remind me that one can't say.

More Fox and Hounds pix. This was before the crowd. Which one is the handsome and charming American Gooner? hahaha

Very controlled play from the Gunners. Matured and assured. Good to see the defence working well as a unit.

Sokratis was multi-tasking as player and counsellor as well :42laughter:

It is a very fine balancing act in terms of team selections from now on.

I still think both routes to the CL are very attainable but remain incredibly difficult and fraught with danger. Thus, we cannot afford to prioratise one over the other.
Players will need to be rotated for sure so Emery must get his selections spot-on for each game.

The route to the Europa final has only one away game which is helpful but it's a knock-out competition where we are still just one bad performance away from going out. Even if we reach the final it still remains something of a lottery, as anything can happen in a one-off game.

The top four route remains very tricky because of the away fixtures, however let's hope the Napoli away performance will give us some confidence.

It will certainly make for an interesting few weeks in which our season could be a glorious victory or a valiant failure.

Don’t know much about the current Valencia side. With all the injuries piling up it could be reminiscent of our lurch to the Copenhagen final where we missed many. Squad rotation will be key and trying to re energise the players for Sunday must be tough

I still think the league represents our best chance of getting champions league.

I think Emery has done tremendously well considering the circumstances he inherited and the injuries throughout the campaign. If you told me at the start of the season with 5 games to go we would be in the top 4 and in a European semi I would have bitten your hand off. However if this thing does indeed implode then I expect our fans to give him dogs abuse

Agreed. The season has exceeded expectations. I have no idea who plays for Valencia but they don't look vary scary. They're a very mediocre 6th in La Liga and have only scored 36 goals in their 32 league games. I also get a feeling we have broken our away form hoodoo. The 11 that started last night (even with Özil for Ramsey) make a very good team. I'd back that team to beat Chelsea in the final if it came to that.

But ... there is a big dropoff in quality/form after that. As you say, rotation, let alone dealing with injuries and suspensions, is going to be a big headache. Even having a decent bench looks a bit challenging ...

I realise that proportionally every clubs' fans should be more or less the same. But despite that I don't think Arsenal's fan base is as abusive to its managers as some others. Chelsea fans are already giving Sarri abuse and they're in almost the same position as us in his first season, or maybe a factor in that is their fans having higher expectations? It took much longer for the abuse of Wenger to start. It also took longer with Wenger than with Mourinho at Manchester United, where it started in year three even after he won two trophies in his first season there.

But apart from the Wenger lovers, who I suggest are fairly small in number, I doubt many Arsenal fans will will get on Emery's back as soon as this.

A possible Arsenal v Chelsea final with CL riding on it. Imagine missing out of top 4 in the league AND losing the cup final? I'd rather not. I do think we will get in the top 4 in some form or manner. Its possible Man Utd is the odd man out if we get in the top 4 and Chelsea wins it.

Crazy times. We win the next two matches and I think we will shade it. Assuming we beat Palace (not a foregone conclusion) and we put in an effort and win at Wolves, something a couple of the other top clubs haven't done, we will just shade it if other results happen as expected.
Lots of ifs, etc. but that's where we are at.

I've played a lot with Valencia on pro evo this year after visiting the fantastic city last July. Dani Parejo and Rodrigo would be the players to look out for now Batsuai has joined Palace. They be had a poor season I think, last I looked the drew a lot of games. Don't concede too many.

Emery must look at these last few games as a sprint to the finish line. We are still in control for Top 4. This team is mentally stronger, albeit slightly, than teams of past. Emery must psyche their belief, and get back to ECL. That would be a strong statement from the club. Winning the Europa Cup will cement the team's belief. Then onward and upwards to next season. I hope to see more younger players make their way up. AMN is a great example.

Son has been on fire for a while now. Very capable attacker when Kane is out. I thought Sperz were over reliant on Kane but they have played well when he is out.

Antony Taylor still courting controversy at Newcastle v Southampton.

He will surely get shown up by VAR and more people will realise what an awful ref he is.

He’ll likely get plaudits for non decisions as VAR will step in and make the right ones.

Weird. Man U were unstoppable with Solskjaer as interim manager. The moment that his position was made permanent they fell apart.
