Argghh! :36angers: Thought Brighton could hold on with some luck. The fact it went this late for sperz to win is surprising given the opposition.

Sperz aren't who we are competing against anyway. I've pretty much conceded 3rd to them. Its Man Utd and Chelsea we have to worry about.

But we're only 4 points behind them with a game in hand. And the squeaked a home win against Brighton. Their form is worse than ours so why the defeatist attitude????

There's every chance we will beat Wolves tonight, if we get a decent side on the pitch we show some purpose and the ball bounces the right way for us. Of course we could easily draw or lose too. Its football.

Is that because not enough people wanted to go or was the capacity slightly limited.

I vaguely recall somebody's new stadium operating at slightly below capacity for the first few games as some sort of security measure or something.

Possibly, but I think they got 60,000for one game, 2.5k under capacity. It would be strange to cap capacity on a 62,500 stadium to 60,000 for safety measures. Quite a small percentage.

But after spurs made such a fuss of having a stadium with more capacity than ours it will be interesting to see if they actually ever beat our capacity at any point

If we lose both Özil and Mkitaryan, we'll need a new creative player as well as a Ramsey replacement. Unless Guendouzi, who despite his recent loss of form I still consider a brilliant prospect, can fill either role, that will be expensive.

Fair comment. Perhaps my £40m left wing can be the versatile creative player who can drift to the wing - we used to have loads of those at one point. There are rumours around a brazilian kid called Martinelli who is left wing/striker for £10m. - or we could give Welbeck a 2 year deal....?

If Özil, Mkhitaryan and Ramsey all leave then we certainly do need some serious investment in those creative positions.

It would leave us with attacking players of Lacazette, Aubamayang, Iwobi, Nelson and youth team players.

I think one thing is for certain is that it should be a very busy summer for Arsenal. Last summer felt quite refreshing, 5 first team transfers and that was before Emery had had chance to assess the squad competitively. No one really knows the transfer budget either. Champions League will certainly bolster it and attract better players so it is absolutely vital we get it

I would guess if we did offload Özil and Mkhitryan then their save on wages could boost the transfer pot(?) It would save £28m in wages alone over 1 season. Theoretically that could add £18m to a transfer kitty and pay £100k per week to 2 new players

I think it would be exceptionally hard to sell Özil and mhikitaryan.

Özil is on 350k a week. There’s probably less than 14 clubs in europe or even globally who can pay a salary like that. Plus he’s 30

Henrik is 31 in January on a 170k a week contract plus the club would want a transfer fee for him as his contract has time to run.

I just can’t see anybody coming in and taking these 2 guys off our hands anytime soon. I’ll be shocked if they aren’t with us next year

This is kinda interesting to watch. Which nation's players has scored the most in the European cup/CL over the years. Hungary had a ton of goals in the 50s and 60s because of their great teams of that era and then the advent of Brazil later coming into Europe in numbers. Germany always up there though.

I understand his need to deflect the heat from Mustafi but if he truly believes any of this I am very concerned that he intends to keep him..

I'm not going to slag off Emery for not slaughtering his own players in public. That's what Mourinho did at Manchester United, and it lost him the dressing room pretty damn quickly.

From what I’ve seen Emery hasn’t really had the chance to not play mustafi.
Early in the season Koscielny and Mavrapanos were both injured, and Monreal missed a few games.
Then Holding got injured.
Sokratis has missed games with injury and suspension.
I don’t think Emery trusts Mustafi in a back 4, especially when his partner is more junior- so he’s been playing him in the back 5.
Emery has traditionally always played a back 4.
A new CB with Mustafi sold might allow him to do that more next year

Yep. I think Mustafi is crap but I wouldn't want Emery to criticise any of his players in public. As you suggest, it benefits no one.

Aubameyang not in the squad tonight - injured or rested, I don't know.
Looks like a 4-2-3-1 formation with Kos and Sok at centre back and Mustafi on the bench. Özil behind Lacazette.

If Aubameyang is unavailable that’s the team I would have wanted to see.
Wolves play 3 at the back with their wing backs instrumental in all their attacking play. Neves and Moutinho like time on the ball and big switches of play to the wing backs. We must get on top of those two and not give them time to pick their passes. Going to need a big shift from the 5 mids behind Lacazette

The side looks well balanced on paper, I much prefer us with a back 4. But they've got to deliver a big performance as you suggest.

Exactly. Few chances to pull the trigger and nothing. Wolves break and have the first proper shot, decent chance

Wolves score a free kick. Foul that was more a tangle of legs immediately after Mkhitaryan was fouled at the other end

Such a typical away performance. All the ball but no threat. Opposition score with first shot on target.

Can’t see us getting anything from this game. We simply do not win away games and nice we go behind.

Wolves are totally comfortable defending against us then they break with pace.

We just don't look like scoring, lots of pretty passes but no cutting edge.

Our build-up play is too slow.

Honestly our finishing at times is woeful. How often do we shoot with only a small chance of scoring but fail to even get it on target? What are we thinking? Hit them hard and on target, make the gk make a save and follow in or get a deflection. Ours always end up so high and wide

2-0 Wolves. Leno comes for cross and completely misses it.

I’ve seen this sodding game far too many times to care for.

All the ball but totally toothless, opposition so efficient and dangerous.

Kiss goodbye to top 4. These away games were always going to be way too much for our fragile confidence

Torreira so clearly fouled 25 yards out. Exactly where wolves got their free kick. Nothing given

Bernard says I moan too much about the defence all the time but we are bloody useless both individually and collectively. We have gifted them one goal and arguably the wall failed to do its job for the first as well.

Add to that a lack of urgency, incisiveness and end product when we do get ourselves in good positions and its a recipe for disaster.

What are we expecting to happen?

*%^@ keeping from Leno again. 3-0.

Poor play from Xhaka to begin with.

A complete and utter shambles.

I can't watch this anymore. I'm off to watch the United game.

I wonder if Emery will sub out "Jay" Leno? If we were to win the Europa cup but have a dismal rest of the league season, I'd still feel a ways about being in the CL again.

Oh well.

*%^@*** embarrassing
Started well and just collapsed after a free kick from neves who has been banging them in from all angles.
We were never going to make top 4 with all these tricky away games.
We can forget it now.
Even if we did make it what impact are we going to make in the champions league anyway
Just embarrassing

There is no excuse for this. Wolves are good but with the team we have there is no reason why we can’t play like them. I’m actually jealous of the style of play of wolves.

Mistakes all over the pitch. Leno having his worst game all season. Defence all over the place. Goal difference being wiped out. Midfield sloppy. Zero shots on goal. Zero even attempts at an assist. Zero attempts at crosses.......and 75% of the sodding ball!

Where on earth do we go from here? Champions league won’t happen with the league position. It will take a miracle to win Europa. No money for new signings, high earners sucking the life out of the club.

I’d swap half this wolves team for our starting 11

The fact that the collapse was so obviously coming after they scored their first is excruciating.

Where is the pride? Where is the fight? Where are the leaders?

I realise he had to retire due to age but we're much worse without Mertesacker, as I proved statistically. Whether you like it or not, we're missing his authority, calmness, leadership and organisation. Mertesacker was such an important player for this club.

Our season on the line and we don’t show up. A f...ing spineless performance from what is ...absent Aubameyang our best team...This is beyond embarrassing. The manager and players have failed to do their jobs. I hate losing but i’ll live with it if we go down fighting. This is sickening because we were pathetic. Tippy Tao toothless football. Wolves watch it for a bit and think f me. Let’s go up their end and score a few.

I saw that free kick from 3000 miles away. A big gaping gap to the goalies right just waiting for a competent player to put it there.
Then one man marking two for a short corner giving one of them plenty of time to measure a cross. Offside but that’s the way the cookie crumbles.
Third goal weak in midfield and a top goalie would have saved it.

Oh for a Tony Adams or Frank McClintock. Leaders fighters give their all for the cause. This bunch of pussies make me sick..
We aren’t good enough at every level throughout the whole club. Ownership manager coaches players.
I’m sick at what my beloved club has become.
