Bayern are the biggest club in Germany and are currently where I would expect them to be: top of the Bundesliga. The second biggest club in Germany, Dortmund, are currently where I'd expect them to be: second in the Bundesliga.

EDIT Having said that, football isn't so predictable that leagues always finish in the exact order of biggest clubs followed by next biggest and so on. So might Dortmund win the Bundesliga this season? Yes, even though they're currently in second place.

If anyone has Netflix, check out 'Losers'. The second episode is about the '87 season for Torquay United. I love small club stories. I've always liked the Davids of the worlds and not the Goliaths. When I first saw Arsenal, I thought we were a small club. I was new to watching it and must admit I was a bit disappointed that we were such a massive club.
Palace was who I was going to support originally based purely on being mentioned in a Benny Hill skit when we got the re-runs in America.
I thought they were big if they were being mentioned by Benny...lol.

'Sunderland Till I die' is also a good one on Netflix.

Top by virtue of goal difference? Close enough to “joint top” as a guide to their standing.

Goal difference counts throughout the season. I'd say Bayern's standing in the game is higher than Dortmund's anyway.

So if we come 4th on goal difference next game round we will qualify for Champs League football?

I think our forwards will be a bit luckier with their shots this time. Never a doubt at all.

If we finish the season fourth on goal difference we then qualify for the Champions League, and every single goal scored and conceded in every league game throughout the season impacts upon that final goal difference. That's why goal difference matters through the season. It's not difficult to understand, even though I'm too polite to suggest you get a life.

Well if you hadn't said something factually incorrect it wouldn't have started. At the present time, Bayern and Dortmund are NOT joint top of the Bundesliga. Bayern are currently top on goal difference, and Dortmund are second. That is a fact.

and if the goal difference was the same and Bayern was shown above Dortmund would they not still be joint top?

Why can you not understand that the games are played over a season so until the season is over the weekly results are irrelevant.

AMN bidding for man of the match.

Lucky with the offside call.

Good competitive game since the second goal, tie on a knife edge.
Need to keep up the disciplined defending all over the park - Čech hasn't been called into action yet.

Good first half but I am concerned with the referee. He appears to be buying into the Rennes players acting. I am concerned that we could up with a red & then we know what happens when we play with 10. Seems as if any touch on them is a foul & he has failed to punish a number of fouls on our players.

Some great performances so far & must make a special mention of M-N.

Yep Aubameyang is offside. I think the lino got fooled because the arsenal player who was miles offside didn’t go for the ball, everyone stopped and Aubameyang ran on and got it. Lino was probably distracted by whoever it was who was miles off. Lucky break that we needed

My comms mentioned he’s from Latvia and we’re concerned how much big game experience he had. Players are manipulating him.

I always get worried when I see a ref sprint over to a player to issue him with a yellow like he did to Lacazette. Why sprint, just be calm give the free kick and the yellow, sprinting over just pours petrol on the small cinders of a fire

The game has descended into a foul fest. We need to get a grip on midfield again. It's very precarious at the moment.

Not pleasant watching is it?

Horrible feeling that there will be an incendiary incident.

This is getting very hairy. Under far too much pressure at the moment. Would like to see Emery change something - Mkhitaryan and Iwobi getting ready by the look of things.

Rennes knocking on the door. Özil and Lacazette hooked. Both had a poor game.

I agree we need some changes but would have been both Ramsey & Özil for me to come off. Ramsay is misplacing passes all over the place. Need that 3rd and 4th goal. And then we get number 3
