He's playing the best football of his life the past few seasons including this one. Great defender.

He's been a decent defender for us but I prescribe to Alan Davies Tuesday club comments these days (which I disagreed with at first ) that he gets brownie points for effort to make up for the fact he's not all that. Regularly gets destroyed by Zaha, Pedro and other wingers. 6/10

So 'regularly gets destroyed' really means that one game where Zaha was really good?

And yes, I do watch most of our games. That's how I know that what Monreal does regularly is simply being one of the best full backs in the league and probably our best defender.

Not just one game. He's a player not without issue.

Any clearly you don't watch as you couldn't even remember that shocking focal capitulation in most recent memory

You can’t even remember what you thought of Ramsey as a player yesterday, so I wouldn’t go there. Great point otherwise, Monreal regularly gets destroyed in this one game from last season. Not really sure what I was expecting.

I would've gone with the United game recently where he had a really poor performance. Then again that would be criticism based in reality, not bad pundit narratives.

How often does he make you go "wow" . Never but he's solid enough to turn in a few reasonable games here and there. Gets nowhere near the first teams of the top 4 of the premiership clubs. Keeper but could do better

Play him in the right position in the right setup, and he's one of the best players in the Premier League.

(Ramsey, that is.)

Well that one game* is etched in the mind of all gooners so I question the opinion of any Arsenal fan who can't remember that or more. Actually I'd say their opinion is invalid anyway if they can't remember that farce

On Ramsey like I said I think he can do a job but think he's far from one of the best players in the league which is absolute nonsense.

* it's not he's far some flawless there's plenty more

I'm sorry he just isn't. Half a good season John that's it. Plus that was when he was literally told he could go on the pitch and do anything he wanted as we were really suffering from a lack of movement and pace at that point in time. Poor mans David Platt

Poor man's David Platt - that made me laugh anyway.

As I said, in the right position, and in the right setup.

Of course you do.

Let's not pretend you also mentioned Pedro and the words 'regularly destroyed'. Or that you've completely changed your opinion on Ramsey while pretending you haven't.

Don't see why Ramsey can't give us a dozen goals in a season playing in more central and attacking position.

Your dropping him for Özil are you?

He's scored 32 goals in his career with us and he's now 27 years old. Doesn't suggest he could ever be that prolific in any way

Yes, how can we be in 6th place with a really good left back. That's a headscratcher.

Agreed - a great song. I love being sentimental and that one has my tears every time.

This is actually true apart from the breed of dog; she is a soft southern cockerpoo.

I think that's a decent summary he's a 6/10 type. He's a half decent lad prone to a roasting every once in a while. Better than clichy and Gibbs so he became a bit of a favourite for locking down the position.

Ashley 9/10
Sagna 8/10
Bellerin and Monreal 6/10

I would say Adams was a world class defender, if we are going to get tied down in subjective player classifications.

Anyway, half-decent is obviously preposterous when talking about Monreal in the last few seasons. He's even managed to consistently look good in our defensive setup.

Apart from at Trudie's Bondage Parlour no better place to get tied down. I give you Robert Moore, Paolo Maldini and Franco Baresi as other great defenders. Of all those I have seen in an Arsenal shirt O'Leary and Simpson were the only ones to match Adams.

I don't think Özil is staying.

Then your saying we can compete for the title with Aaron playing the number ten role?

On the basis he's scored 32 goals in his career now aged 27 if keeps up this strike rate he could finish his Arsenal career on around 50/60 goals depending on his time of retirement or being sold off. This is about a third of what Frank Lampard scored at Chelsea and their games were similar as based on making runs into the box and movement rather than passing attributes.

Therefore Ramsey is a third of the player Lampard was. You don't win titles with players of this type being your focal midfielder

Sorry Haz but half-decent means 'pretty good' or 'not bad' which I think is obviously a fair assessment.

Great song writer and super live band. Saw them in 81 and either 82 or 83.

Sorry bromley but I don't think half-decent, or pretty good, or not bad is anything like a fair assessment. Monreal is comfortably better than that on a consistent basis.

We have conceded the last 23 penalties we have given away in the league. Stretching back to August 2013

The most shocking part is that we’ve conceded 23 penalties in 4.5 seasons. Top clubs just don’t concede that many.

He's better than "pretty good" ? Really what's that excellent ? He's a 6/10 or 7 at most. The fact we have an absence of talent is lending people to think these players are better than they are.

I seriously think some folks on here are over rating our players, there's a reason we are 6th.

Mourinho, pep, klopp even Poch are not touching Monreal or Ramsey and they would be shipped out in 5 seconds
