I am not sure we should make light of the casino business.

Apparently the master plan for end of season is take all the money we get from Alexis, Özil, Walcott and Wilshire and place it on the number 7. If it comes home we get to buy a moderately okay footballer but if it doesn't we will look for a 16yo from some obscure country to replace the 4 of them.

They had an impeachable, publicly known and widely available system for the 3 numbers. In New York one of the methods used was the last 3 digits of the Dow Jones or the last 3 numbers of the daily circulation of the New York Times.
The stock market has been called 'The world's largest casino' at times as well.

Tonights match will test my interest in the competition and the side in general tonight. I think I may end up watching it but its not a foregone conclusion.

Looking ahead to the Manchester derby, literally will be holding my nose hoping Man Utd wins for no other reason than my silly fear City goes unbeaten.

Good to have a nice big win after the tough loss. Also, build up a little confidence and get some minutes for the likes of Walcott and Wilshere and others.
The pundit I was listening to asked the other if he thinks we are the favorites for the competition and he said not when the bigger clubs for the CL come in. I think we can get to the semis if we take it serious. Not sure how serious Wenger will take it later on. Its a back door into the CL so I would think he'd take it seriously especially if our position in the EPL table is shaky.

Fair point TG ; but sometimes you wonder whether the bubble will burst , house prices in Auckland going off the scale a basic not too flash weather board house selling for over a $1 ,000, 000 .

Good win against very ordinary opposition . Walcott worked hard but I kept flicking over to watch Ronnie O Sullivan get the biggest scare of his life against a really nice young Thai kid .

Agree with Daz hard to get enthused about European football .
Always get the feeling it is all about money , the Champions League should be just that , the Champion of each country .

Tough game coming up. This same fixture pretty much killed us last season. We are firmly in the top 4 race. Would love to see Tottenham as the odd man out. Liverpool playing well, Man Utd as well as City. Chelsea up and down. Its an interesting season so far from a neutral's viewpoint. Tense for supporters of the top 6 sides save City.

When I first got into football, the Manchester derby (the years that City were actually in the league...lol) didn't seem to be that big of a derby as it will be this weekend. The NLD is watched nationally with interest. Man Utd v. Liverpool being the biggest match possibly historically. The Liverpool derby seemed bigger than the Manchester derby when I started watching football late '90s.
I'd even say the northeast derby between Newcastle and Sunderland seemed bigger. It's huge now because of their relative sides and being number 1 and 2 in the table but historically?

Southampton - an easy 3 points this season. 4-0 to us.

In the Manchester derby the FA know a City win may kill any excitement in the EPL so I expect a few controversial decisions to get Utd over the line or get at least a draw.

It was a massive contest in the 60s and 70s. Both sides were crammed with great British footballers who served up classic attacking games. For my money only Aguero and Ibrahimovic stand comparison with the men from that time.

I wasn't around to watch those sides, but I would suggest that DeBruyne, Silva and DeGea would be right up there. Not at the Best and Charlton level but seriously talented players nonetheless.

Hello omoh, they were both champions late '60s back to back if my football history is kind to me, so I assume as much.
I remember when they had Goater I think over well over a dozen years and tried punching above their weight. I can imagine it was a bigger match in the era you mentioned.

Yes that's correct - People can see a blocked persons posts if they are quoted - even if the quoted person is blocked.

If someone is blocked, their messages can still be displayed easily.
The forum will show that it's a hidden post but you can just click "Display this post" to view it.

Hello Warrior, Just saw your response to kiwipete.
If an unblocked person quotes a blocked person who you have blocked its seen if that makes sense. And you are right, I have the option to see a blocked person's post. There is a tab that says 'display' but its optional. As far as posts directed to me personally from those I've blocked I don't see them if I'm quoted by them. If they quote me I don't see it. Only if an unblocked person quotes them quoting me. Which thank goodness is rare. :icon_mrgreen:

I used to get PMs a long time ago that I'm being trolled abusively but told people I'm not interested in knowing. Anyway, just wanted to clear up what I can see and what I can't since it seem to be hotly debated and some people seems to have a need for me to see their abuse...lol..pathetic as it is.

I'm just here to discuss football. That's it. I realized that a while ago that it was disrespectful to Steve's memory if I responded in kind to vitriolic posts.

Cheers.

..and last addition. I want to state that its not about disagreeing about football. We can hotly debate football and it gets passionate and angry and that's absolutely fine. I don't mind being disagreed with on football things. I never, ever take it personal. Neither should anyone else. But the reason that should be obvious why I have blocked some is that its not about disagreeing about football but you all can see its pure verbal abuse with no intention other than to insult.

If the reason is someone's post is boring, unimaginative, asinine from a football point of view, so what? Was this forum set up for people we agreed with and liked their prose? If is some old beef about something football or non football such as politics, religion or what have you, do we move on or carry on a grudge that escalates into some of the posts that led to block certain folks. It could be you next. Think about that.

I had a friend who would lurk on here. I mentioned him before a Newcastle supporter who loved some of the debates and comments but not enough to actually join in and he said something that led me to change how I am on here. He said 'the AG I know is night and day from the bloke I know personally face to face and the one that posts. Stop responding, just be you. You are passionate about your Arsenal and do what the founder intended the forum to be. If others want to be abusive, leave them be (he was the one that told me about the blocking feature). Let people see you and them for what they are and either they agree or not. Either way, you claimed on the forum and to me that you don't care by responding you care. Just be you and forget the responding. You will never win that argument.'

I've enjoyed the forum immensely since taking that advice.

Cheers.

Not at all. Southampton have been very poor and I think we can take them apart. An early goal and we are away.

What you do is batter the guy all over and then when he is lying prone stick the sharp end in his ribs. See page 4 of the 'How To Respect An Arsenal Manager' manual.

I'd be happy with a narrow win.
Always happy with a narrow win. Added time penalty or own goal, even better.

You have a point about De Gea - probably as good as Joe Corrigan, but well shy of Alex Stepney. Faced with Norbert Stiles, Bill Foulkes, Paddy Crerand and Tony Dunne, DeBruyne and Silva would have lasted about ten minutes before going home to mum, tears rolling down their soft cheeks.

I am not even going to dignify that with a response. :icon_rabbit:

It could be you next. Think about that...
You are right AG. As a less frequent user of this forum these days it is noticeable to me how frequently your posts are met with some sort of negative comment, usually flippant but occasionally more personally vindictive. That it doesn't seem to bother you that much is very amusing. The sound of water running off a duck's back is a good one.

I went to youtube in search of clips from the '60s Manchester derbies to get an idea about them. I ended up looking at a clip of recent derbies (over the last 10 years or so) and I was very surprised how hotly contested and dangerous they were! I am reminded of just how nasty Roy Keane was.

I also found a clip of George Best talking about the '60s and he said that both sides had at least a few local boys. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1bur7E730A
