If it’s any consolation, I just missed out. My first visit to Highbury was in the 76-77 season, and I’m pretty sure he’d left by then.

That all said, I used to go to Maine Road, Goodson, Anfield and Old Trafford from about 71 with my Dad if ever Arsenal were playing there, so it’s possible I did indeed see him play. No memories of doing so however.

Dunno if Pete is suggesting Saliba is more like Terry Mancini than DOL….if he is I know he’s not stupid so it can only mean he must have had too much rum….

Little bit hard to read this stuff. Whilst that’s delightful It burns a bit if you know what I mean.

I’m not certain but didnt Nick Hornby discuss in a chapter of fever pitch about the difficulty of going mid season if Arsenal were top of the league. I’m not certain but it might give me an excuse to get re read that splendid book again and I’m sure bern would consider that funny.

If Man U lose this they remain in 5th and are as close to the relegation zone as they are to us

Good manager, not minimizing that fact, but it also helps when you literally have a blank cheque to write for any player willing to come.

True. But they haven’t really spent silly money yet have they. Howe is doing well with the bulk being players that he inherited.

They’ve spent a fortune

..

Funded by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), their controversial 80 per cent owners, they have spent £210million ($238m) on eight new players, smashed their transfer record and invested everywhere.

They spent a decent amount:
Sep 2, 2022 — Newcastle United have spent £123 million (€142m) on transfers this summer

But you are right, he's inherited most of the players and he's a good manager. They will go from strength to strength and very little doubt they'll buy in January.

They might get top 4 this season. I (and many people) wouldn't be surprised. Toon fans kinda remind me of the Chicago Cubs or the Boston Red Sox. Massive fan base of teams that went a long time with no title. We had one Geordie at the pub in LA. The other Brits said 'Just smile and nod, you won't understand a word'

Man Utd lose 3-1. We are now 11 points ahead of them, 13 points ahead of Chelsea and 15 ahead of Liverpool.

The media seem intent on perpetuating the myth it’s not about money. Give arteta 210 million to spend over 2 windows and I reckon he’d win you the league

Liverpool 1-0 up, they've started the game much better than Tottenham.

They showed a stat at half time that said Tottenham haven't scored a goal in the first half for 7 games in a row. Five of those games they've gone into half time with the opponents in the lead. Forget about our second half slumps, that is truly atrocious.

You've got me beat by 15 mos Andy! School boys enclosure graduate to North Bank alumni. Great years following the Arse. I actually saw Mancini play for us (Bob Mcnab said he was only bought in by Bertie Mee to bring humor to the dressing room!) He was OK at Loftus Road, but did nothing for us. Wins like today go some way to healing the coachload of horror games I went to. From losing to Swindon at Wembley. to the Jeff Blockley back-pass horror-show semi final. Lot of water and games seen under the bridge mate, but looks like blue skies may be back. but wouldn't have it any other way!

Ah memories. The Schoolboys’ Enclosure. Cost 2/6 when the North Bank was 6 bob. Great view, which coincidentally I was at when we beat Everton 4-0 to clinch the title in 1998.

You young pup!
It’s those tough losses that make the good days so good Swindon yep… Blockleys back pass at Hillsboro still hurt as does Nayim from the half way line and that awful 3:2 loss to Luton at Wembley Losing two cup finals in a week will also leave a mark when Brooking scored and Chippy and Rixy did not
I love this club and I always will ……long may the blue skies chase the dark clouds away…. I’ll get my Vera Lynn’s greatest hits CD out!!
