Never underestimate the ability of any footballer (any club, Arsenal included) to go lose the use of their legs and writhe on the floor in pain when anything hints at slightly brushing any part of their head

Oh great. Red card for Xhaka.

So he’ll miss the NLD then?

red card Xhaka - denying a clear goal scoring opportunity. Not sure he knew where Jota was. Kills this game and now he misses the NLD

it never rains for us

It is a red, I'd want a red the other way. People may say Jota would struggle to get the ball ahead of Ramsdale but it kind of doesn't matter

If it’s questionable then it always seems to go against us. Every time.

He’s last man and he booted the guy up in the air again. Not sure what you expect. A clear red

Again though, never the benefit of the doubt for us. We've seen players get away with those denial of a clear goal scoring opportunity challenges but we nevre do.

I have no problem with the punishment we receive if all teams are dealt with the same.

The problem with the concept of red cards is that the extent of the punishment is so variable.

A red card early in the first half bears no resemblance to one in the 90th minute despite the offence being the same. They ruin games.

Loads of players would’ve got away with a booking on that one.

Xhaka's lack of speed will always be targeted by opposing teams. And his recklessness is well known. We need an upgrade in this position.

Not really his fault. He was totally exposed. Where was the defence?

He’s the last man. Even if you think it’s a clumsy accident he’s got to go.

Fully agree. It was a booking all day long. But not a red. Shocking decision.

This is very difficult for me: I have to agree with TG - a red every time.

Certain players would have for sure, but I'd be screaming for a red if someone did that exact tackle on an Arsenal player in that position

Bet you’ll enjoy the rest of this game. Gives you you opportunity to moan about Xhaka and blame any defeat on him.

Why was he the last man?

'Last man' isn't anywhere in the rules, it is something you hear a lot but it isn't the rule, it is about whether the ref determines the foul to deny a clear goal scoring opportunity. Jota had controlled it past Xhaka and there was no covering defender between him and the GK

I don’t blame every defeat on him but he’s a liability and it pains you every time I point this out doesn’t it

He was going to score.

Few refs wouldn’t have sent him off, when I saw it happen I thought RED immediately

The covid thing really sticks in the throat for me. Liverpool lied that they had a load of false positives when they only had 4 actual covid cases. The chances of 3 false positives is 1 in 8 billion - and Liverpool claim they had about 10 of them so couldn't play. Now we're the one with covid, afcon and injury crisis and we're playing.

I don't mind teams being better than us, playing better etc but I don't like the sense that something hasn't been fair

Oh no I get that. But the question is why was it him and not a CB covering?

Proper use of the advantage rule by Oliver there, good reffing.

Agree with that. Actually he’s reffed very well (again).
