The exception that breaks the rule.
We turned down a £10m bid from Roma to make Mkhitaryan’s loan permanent this winter, 6 months later we’re letting him go for free.

We also got an excellent fee for Ox. Could we improve in this area? Of course we could. Liverpool and Tottenham have done really well with player sales in recent years but have tended to have had players on lower wages. Might change for Liverpool now with their recent success. Man U have struggled every bit as much as us, probably worse. Bought Lukaku for £90m and sold him two years later for £60m. The Sanchez fiasco. Herera gone on a free. Smalling on loan as they couldn't sell him. And now they have DeGea on a monster contract and making terrible errors.

Zlatan has said what I said on here 20 years ago. Until the people who run football in America at the top realize that they must bring the sport to the same areas that the NBA and NFL come from, America will continue to be an average at best football country.

Similar to everywhere else. The best football players aren't out of Eton or Rugby but the streets of east and south london, the coal mines in the northeast, the factories in Sheffield, the council estates in Manchester and Liverpool for the most part, among other places.

The club are absolutely *%^@** with little funds available. They didn’t cause the pandemic delaying the season.

Do our fans really think we should pay 2 million quid so a player can play 1 x 90 minute game for another club.

Ridiculous.

Spot on. Also, St Etienne refused to implement Arsenal's requested training regime. This for a player who broke his foot earlier in the season. We paid £27m for this kid.

That’s my exact take as well.
He’s our player, the loan was over, it could be extended with renegotiation but given they refused to adhere to our fitness plan to ensure our own player was fit for us for next season and they wanted £2.5m for the privilege is ridiculous. If St Etienne were only thinking about the player and their cup final then they wouldn’t have been discussing a fee they weren’t even contractually due.

Wenger would have probably paid them to let him play, just like he’d waive fees for players out of loyalty. Time for us to be more ruthless

We have had the 'Can the U.S. be a football power' argument on here. I may seem biased but I will make the same assertion again. If football were to become as popular to the masses, the same areas we get out NBA, NFL players from, as well as the millions of immigrants that already have an affinity for the sport (Latinos, Africans, Caribbeans, eastern Europeans, not so much Asians but I'll include them), we would be a top 5 power perennially. No question whatsoever in my mind.

350 million population, extremely diverse, among the best athletes in the world (Olympics for example), more money than any nation to put into to the sport. 'Do the math'.

At the time I also said, if we did take the sport seriously, we would f*ck it up. It's what we do. We adopt it, change it to make more money out of it at the expense of the heart of the sport. America would have included water breaks or some form of break much earlier than we have seen now. Why? Advert revenue. We'd milk as much money out of the sport as possible to its own detriment. The NFL is unwatchable any longer from when I was a child. Average game was roughly 2 hours as a kid, now its towards 3. The Super Bowl, is a 4-6 hour entertainment event, its no longer a sport. May as well be the Oscars, Grammys, etc. The NBA has completely changed from what I knew it as. Completely unrecoqnizable, even from Michael Jordan's days. They have essentially eliminated the players from defending with rule changes. I hate to think what America would do with football. I got into football, specifically the PL because, at the time, it seemed much purer than American professional sports. I got back the feelings I had with the NBA and NFL and even baseball.

Sadly, the PL has changed over time and its not as fun to watch as it once was but still better than watching most American professional sports.

Mike Dean bugga........

Do we have a hope in hell. Moss surprised us but can't see Dean letting them get away with their normal kick'em in the air type play.

Sky's coverage
Souness: Get about them physically. Be aggressive. Make them worried about getting injured

Interviewer:Arteta 4 at the back? 3 at the back?
Arteta: No *walks off*

It's really *%^@ stuff from them. For all the razzmatazz it's inconsequential, petty , stuck in the past stuff.

Your right utterly abysmal coverage.

Why not ask him something interesting rather than a question you know he won’t answer.

I saw people lamenting the loss of Clive tydsley as well recently which made me laugh. Really average commentator

Bring back John Motson and my favourite Barry Davies. Made football beautiful to listen to. Also Des Lynam was brilliant at presenting and his ad libs worth watching the bbc for alone.

In summary everything goes to *%^@ doesn’t it :laughing7:

Absolutely nothing in this for us. 10th is the lowest we can finish and 8th is the highest, neither of which positions mean anything.

Traditionally, Cup Final teams who have nothing to play for beyond their places aren’t exactly motivated.

Penalty helps.

Looks like it is a 442 Arteta trying it out in a game that doesn't really matter for us? Holding a few shaky moments so far. Then a good block with his face!

Strange game. Mostly being outplayed but deservedly 2-0 up.

Dislike Troy Deeney as a player. Sorry Sir Elton John and Watford, you're going down.

The team defense is better. Also, our spacing for receiving passes when the opposition presses us at the back is better. We are able to get the ball out to the midfield and attackers a bit more rather than having to hoof it under pressure every time as in the past.

Xhaka with the yellow card and a why me this is so unfair look. To recap he shouted "Oi!" to get the referee'a attention then shouts "*%^@ off!"

Yes Xhaka, that gets you a yellow card...

Souness saying at least 6 times Watford have been the better team. Yes thank you for that. But who do you think have been the better team Graeme?? Looking forward to someone asking Troy Deeney A. Who he whacked and if they came back for more, and B. Where were the cohones?

Don't let me down Arsenal

Compare and contrast with Ceballos a bit later. After conceding a foul that he thought was incorrectly given he limited himself to a “you’re joking” looked and walked away.

Right now he needs one more to draw level with Vardy.

Dawson is an oaf. A repeat of his penalty foul, this time outside the area.

Second shot at Tierney by Xhaka in the past few minutes. Ferocious pace on an intended pass.

Pépé has an unbelievable ability to drop a shoulder and lose a tight marker, unfortunately most of the times he does it, its when he's got his back to goal and he just shakes off the attention rather than actually beating the man
