Bailed out by Leno. Excellent save.

And surprisingly that was their first shot on target.

We played most of that second half with an empty tank, really good effort from the team. Deserved the win, we were so much better in the first half until tiredness crept in.

Job done as should have been expected given their recent form.

There is about a 5 second delay on the "live" game I watch from the states feed. I went to the bbc site to see we won right before he kicked it. Phew!

HUGE win. Nut cracked. This could easily have been a draw looking at the schedule and we cleared that hurdle. Now for West Ham and Tottenham to draw.

Well that was truly excellent coming so soon after the Liverpool game. It looked like being a really tricky fixture. Controlled it so well.

Great to see the lads celebrating with Leno.
He was very good today.

Glance at the league table now and you will realise what a big result that is.

Villa away always a tricky game.
Out of the last 3 this was the one that worried the most.

Kudos to Leno who had a great game and has been a great signing and staunch performer for the club. His distribution isn’t his strong point but if this was one of his last games for us he gave a great account

Five away league wins in a row. It’s been a while since that last happened.

Even though it was nervy for the last 20-30 minutes, we kept Villa from creating all that much. If I'm not mistaken, that final free kick was their first proper shot on goal.

What’s noticeable is there is no passenger. Everyone is fighting for the ball there’s no Özil type meandering all over the pitch and even Ødegaard has adapted his style to chase and Harry the opposition and he’s becoming very adept at winning the ball back.

That’s good coaching. The players are motivated and organised. Mikel deserves tons of credit

The deflection onto our post was the other heart stopping moment.

Still think 70 points will get us fourth place, simply because it would take a substantial increase in form for Man Utd or Tottenham to get it. That means 5 wins and a draw for us in our remaining ten games. Five wins, a draw and four losses would actually be a pretty bad string of results for us considering our form and quality, but the fact that it still likely get us 4th shows what a good position we're in.

We have the same number of wins (17) as Chelsea.

I think these kind of wins are very important in the evolution of a young team. If we play in Europe next season (which is looking increasingly likely) we'll have a lot more league fixtures where we've played in midweek and our opponents haven't. You need to find ways to win those games, it doesn't always have to be pretty.

Massive result in the context of the fact that we had 3 tough games with little rest in between. 6 out of 9 points is great.

I thought we played beautifully 1st half, lots of crisp progressive passing, great movement. A little tougher 2nd half by all accounts (I had to go out at halftime and fully expected to come back to see us drawing or losing after a halftime Gerrard rocket up Villa's backsides).

Top performance.

Lets hope West Ham beat Tottenham or at least get a draw.

Brilliant from Leno today. He’s not moaned or complained to the press once this season. Came in pretty cold and kept a clean sheet.
We all know the fan favourites in the team but this push for 4th has had a number of unsung heros in recent weeks.
Holding, Cédric, Xhaka and even short cameos from Nketiah and Pépé….and now Leno

We should pull Saka out of the england friendlies. If he’s not going to be properly protected then England can’t have him!

I too was worried about this. The lack of rest, the effort put (in vain) in v Liverpool and Villa have been flying at home. Tv cameras, early game….it had all the omens.
The first half dominance was brilliant. Second half was about holding what he have.

I said a while back I thought our defence would be the defining factor in the top 4 race and that our threadbare striker situation (numbers, quality and goals) would be less important. Hopefully it’s proving the case right now. Spurs and Man U look miles off is defensively and in terms of playing like a team with clear tactics and everyone working in tune. They’re both still reliant on moments from individuals

Agreed. Even just 5 wins (or 15 more points) that would need Man U to take 20 points from 27 and Spurs to take 22 points from 30….or both about 2.2 points per game. Neither has shown they can do that

Balogun starting for Boro against Chelsea in the FA Cup. Will be interesting to see him up against Rudiger and Thiago Silva

This is why refs need to explain their decisions and actions. Ref books Xhaka by pointing and saying ‘1, 2, 3’ That foul was his first foul so either the ref has just made up the other fouls or he’s counting team fouls as that was Arsenal’s 3rd foul as a team. I actually don’t know which one is worse but it continues to point to Arsenal and some of our players in particularly being targeted by refs
