George Graham was fired for taking a bung. Usmanov was a shareholder for years. We've had a club captain sent to prison. Our stadium is sponsored by The Emirates. We were protagonists of the money frenzy that is the Premier League. I'm not sure we occupy the moral high ground to any great extent.
Depends how you view it I guess. George getting fired was an example of the club doing the right thing. Every other manager was taking bungs and their clubs turned a blind eye to it. The club fully supported Tony during his bad times, which was to its credit. On the Premiership, oligarchs and stadium sponsorship - hopefully no other clubs will stoop so low as to follow our example.

Guendozi and Martinelli qualify as excellent buys but the rest can be a bit hit and miss .
Think back to the Clough days where a group of tradesmen and journeymen were assembled Larry Lloyd , Kenny Burns , John McGovern , John O'Hare , Archie Gemmill , John Robertson and they "punched well above their weight "
Emery has done the reverse ; bought / inherited some very high profile players and has them playing like &*(((&*^%$#*

You don't rate Dan Leno? Čech aside, a definite upgrade on many recent Arsenal keepers. Good business by Dick.

Yes, I long to see the Clough days repeated - maybe Leicester will oblige again? Probably not.

I am no fan of Emery, and wouldn't worry if he moves on soon, but objectively lying 5th in the table at this stage of the season is what might have been expected. For me that Spurs and United are below us is the real surprise.

I saw him live in Orlando, Florida about 15 years or so. The man is a cyborg because he was non-stop for what had to be about 3 hours.
Once in HS with a friend in his older brother's car we got lost (partially drunk is the reason) in New Jersey coming back from the shore and ended up on the boardwalk in Asbury Park. Way, way out of our way.

Question. Will a top 4 finish save Emery and/or stop the 'Emery out' brigade?
What about a trophy? Only 2 remaining so, will either do? (I'm not counting the PL title)

Yeah I like Leno but I don't see him head and shoulders above your Joe Average Premiership keeper ... except Lloris :laughing7:

Clinging to the fact we are fifth in the table is real glass full mentality when really the entertainment value is almost zero
.... watching/ listening to the blokes who follow Arsenal rain / hail / shine on Arse TV ... no one is happy .

Thoroughly enjoyed your music offering .... think I'd swap Elle McPherson for his sister any day of the week .

We seem to be in a mess, not just on the pitch but off it. At the root of it all is Kroenke.

A few things. First, would this mean Carcedo will be interim manager? The only plus I will gleam from this if it happens is that its possible Josh is more involved and wants success and is impatient about getting that success.

Another question is who will eventually be the permanent manager?

Ljunberg as stand in and then maybe Allegri. While I'd like Vieira as well it would greatly depend on how Ljunberg does.

Yesterday was a sad day.....but won't dwell on that

I’ve seen him a few time as well, most recently at the Emirates. Each time he's been brilliant.

I read his autobiography a while ago. Fascinating read – well written and well worth seeking out. The dual themes that emerge from his life story are how driven he’s always been and how much in control he’s always been. He’s not called The Boss for nothing. He hires (and fires) all his musicians and techies. They’re not band-mates, they’re employees and they do as they’re told. He’s in total control of his whole operation and he has been, almost from the start.

Son's red card is over turned. I find that amazing to be honest given the circumstances.

So Xhaka is still the only player to be sent off for a cynical trip of a player

Lee Dixon talking about Anfield 89. It is actually worth going to the last 10 minutes and listening to his views on the current Arsenal team and tactics. He is very critical of the Watford game.

Amongst other things he talks about commentating on 3 Uruguay games at the world cup and Torriera just sat in front of the back 4 and was brilliant, suddenly Emery plays him No.10.

Great spot. Just listened to the last bit. Heartbreakingly true. So frigging obvious when he describes it like that.

Makes me so frustrated. We’ve lost so much of that team from 98-04, as Dixon says these players didn’t need much coaching, they were all highly intelligent. Dixon said he didn’t need to think about defending or position, it was just second nature, and in petit and vieira he says there just was not any holes in the team.
Dixon was a great player and always talks very clearly and passionately about the basics of defending in a way that makes your jaw drop that there is no one at arsenal able to do the same in order to fix or even improve the same basic errors we make defensively

Difficult to see a future for Xhaka at the club after this. Surely he's on his way out. He should never have been made captain in the first place.

Not sure. I saw it on bbc. Henry Winter also confirming it on Twitter. Two pretty reliable sources

Emery to some extent didn't have a choice. I'd have preferred he suspend him from the first time for a period of games rather the captaincy which is very harsh. A case can be argued either way. Fans were out of order booing their own.

Facebook just now

on leaving Granit Xhaka out of the squad...
UE - Again, we can do one step more with him. He's not here today but also I think we need to take time with him, first to protect him and also to be calm and training with us every day. But I was speaking with him this morning and also I decided he's not one of the captains in our group and I decided that and I told him this morning.

on what Granit’s response was…
UE - He accepted my decision and also I told the captain and other captain my decision, we need to carry on and to focus on tomorrow’s match and Saturday’s match. I needed to take one decision, and now it is closed.

Chelsea getting spanked, 4-1 now.

Ox makes it 2-1 for the scousers.

And the ref has just given Chelsea the game sending both Ajax centre backs off and giving a peno all from the same 3 second passage of play.

The Chelsea v Ajax game is crazy.
2 goals inside 4 mins
Ajax led 3-1 having only had 1 shot on goal
They made it 4-1 on the counter then A VAR goal made it 4-2.... the. It really kicked off.
Blind made a foul that the ref played advantage on, from the advantage Chelsea won a pen for handball. The ref came back and have blind a 2nd yellow for the foul in the build up. He also booked the Ajax player for the handball. The same Ajax player argued so much he talked himself in to a 2nd yellow and he’s sent off as well. Chelsea score the pen.
1 instance is a goal and 2 red cards
