AG would be home and hosed on that one. He's probably posted a good few million "lols" alone

Between them American and Cannon have posted over 57,000 posts. That is a frankly terrifying quantity of b%*&s%*^.

Amazing stat. It's like putting trump, Boris and Gove in a room together and recording all the hot air they come out with.

Good oul Cannon. Near enough a 50/50 split on his from hailing everything about Wenger and Arsenal to absolutely berating them. Yup!

A nostalgic look at this brilliant forum.

Just for some of those more recent comers I recollect that when I first posted with Steve which was the earlier days of the internet, there was no registration process. There was a space to enter a user name and then post. Hence you will note there is Gaz(Bwood} and myself. We both started posting as Gaz or Gazza and then realised we used the same moniker so split up. I think the forum had already been going for sometime then. Maybe someone has the info on when this was. People came and went often for long periods or lack of interest. Maybe Warrior knows when it commenced.

Steve was a ruthless dictator who would hand out suspensions for what he regarded as incorrect views or plain stupidity. Hence one of the people at the top of the current list would have made about 10% of their current posts if Steve was still with us. Of course in those days the only way you could post was from your computer. I don't think laptops even existed. Maybe if they did I could not afford one and often travelled for work so would only check the forum when I came home from work travel.

The only person I have ever met in person was MEA who was in North Qld for work and I had a drink with him in Cairns. If you are out there MEA drop in and say hello.

It was a revelation for me and I still enjoy it all. Warrior and the other mods - again thank you for what you do and achieve. It is appreciated.

A bit of history for you ...

Steve worked at a watch place down the street from a computer/repair shop I was working at at the time which is where we met. (about '94)
He would come in from time to time to get stuff repaired or for computer parts.

Steve became a customer of the ISP I then later worked at. (He was previously with Ozemail from memory).

I started doing my web site back around '95/'96 when I started working for the ISP that ' hosted ' it.
The site at the time was a simple ~user web page freely given by the Isp for personal pages.

Around a year or so later, I set up a simple guestbook on my site. Steve was also doing his web pages with links and stuff on it.

Link Here: https://web.archive.org/web/19970517002 ... e/home.htm

We both we're always adding all sorts of stuff to our pages. Web pages were in their infancy at the time so even having any sort of website seemed 'cool'.

He also had his Arsenal site but no 'forum' at the time.

I showed Steve the guestbook I made up and he added it to his site. The code was really simple. I think from memory it may have used CGI (Common Gateway Interface) using a simple Postit form.

It was good in that it was easy to setup and posts made it onto the site immediately. Steve used to get an email when someone posted and he would be able to read it straight away.

Steve's Forum rules: https://web.archive.org/web/19970516231 ... /forum.htm

His posting form was here: https://web.archive.org/web/19970517051 ... ost_it.htm

His old forum was here : https://web.archive.org/web/19970517014 ... stings.htm

The guestbook worked ok but it did require culling as it was just one large single page. And yes, the forum is of the same principal today.
Basically, a single 'thread', albeit with the pages split up into the thousands now.

I can see my guestbook's first post was January 3rd, 1997 (Exactly 21 years ago today)

Here's a snippet of Steves old guestbook/forum from Feb 2005: https://web.archive.org/web/20050218195 ... stings.htm

I looked after Steves site when he became ill as it needed culling from time to time and also to have spam messages removed.
Later on, the sites 'post it' form became publicly compromised and was then a haven for spammers which made it require an immense amount of work to maintain.

As it was 2005, there was some very good web forum software available so I opted to go with one of those.

At first, I hosted it for quite a few years on my own server at home but then it moved to BlueHost in the USA for about 12~18 months.
As Bluehost chose to do their web maintenance and backups every day at the same time, it use to make the site go down for an hour every day.

I then moved the site over to Dreamhost in the USA which was much better.

Back then, Australia couldn't register .com domains, so we just hosted it with the US domain registrar who did our .com
A year or so back, .com's were finally allowed to be registered here in Aus, so I first moved the site to an Aus server, then finally last month I moved the registrar to here as well.

Anyway, a bit of history there ...

Wow, that's a lot of work getting this forum going for us. Thanks a lot :53big-emoticons:

And a big shout out to Steve G too!

Özil plays after missing the away game up north. Actually he does seem to miss an awful lot of away games up north then return again for the next home match

Hi Warrior,
Just looking at this list, realise Mee not on there. He passed away 2 yrs ago I believe. Do miss his input.

Hey, Bored, if anything would make me want Arsenal to win it is that. In my case, it is my son's falling out of love with the club that makes me the most angry although I enjoy his passion for Brentford now.

I genuinely wish I was more like you but I was so enraged by the behaviour of Wenger and the club last season that I just cannot wish them anything but payback. Make no mistake, this is a giant corporate pisstake. In any other field we would be gobsmacked that anybody with any real love of the club could show these charlatans a shred of loyalty. I was never in the extreme anti-Wenger camp for a long time so this happened very quickly with me. It was just the sheer arrogance of the way they treated supporters that makes me think: *%^@ you.

Sorry to say it but I don't just want him out I want him to go with ignominy now, having been given every opportunity to avoid it, and having shown utter contempt for anybody outside his protected bubble.

I want to see Chelsea reveal his appalling defensive approach for the makeshift sham that it is.

Hear hear. Had the occasional difference with him about a few matters - largely generational differences over racial epithets - but he was a really decent guy and I still have a book he sent me on my shelf

That's the thing I know I will struggle with.

When wenger does finally leave the furore will be spectacular with sky, BBC and all news outlets claiming he was a visionary who changed football, built Arsenal football club, created the emirates blah blah blah, ex players praising him, maybe even a huge send off after a game with a huge public display of gratitude

It won't reflect the true nature of his tenureship, the damage he caused Arsenal, the bollocks he said, the nonsense about how he sacrificed his life for Arsenal, his bollocks about morality (from a man who cheated on his wife) etc etc etc

Listening to the acclaim will be one bitter pill

I see Özil is back straight away playing a home game after missing the last away game up north...... again. Must be another coincidence ho hum. I'm pretty sure Alex Ferguson and George Graham wouldn't have a problem with this type of stuff either.

Big rumours he's signed a new deal btw

Is Jack getting back at Cesc, for taking away his place when Cesc was at Arsenal? He seems to go in harder on Cesc in the challenges.
That said, Jack is playing well.

Another referee who is happy to give it against us.
Bellerin was clumsy.

Didn't see it as a penalty. But the penalty was very poor and close to the keeper and Čech was frankly s..t.

Thank God Moratta has been crap for them. Lacazette needs a goal bad as I suspect his confidence is starting to go.

But he was caught. If clowns like Wenger think VAR will make a difference they may be very disappointed.
