AV are really poor. This is also my assessment of us. Even as Chambers warms my tin pot heart. 2-2. I hope Xhaka catches Ozils cold.

I'm convinced we play better with 10 men.

We should start games 4 - 3 - 3 then. :icon_eek1:

Just like Arsene’s days with Vieira then.

(PS isn’t that an eleven man team with 4-3-3?).

Sporting he thinks we should do without a keeper.

Monster performance from Guendouzi second half. Drove the team forward with amazing skill and courage.

Guendouzi's first half performance vs. his second half. One of many things today that doesn't make sense.

Huge win

Starting strongly to believe we have an issue with Emery

Pay Aubameyang our bank account for a new contract

Jumping in outside the area

Think back to the Adams and Keown days. Can anybody recall the jumping into challenges with their feet outside the box.

Just stop *%^@*** going to ground ..... how hard is it to comprehend

Honestly can't remember feeling this deflated after a win. I'm quickly coming around from giving Emery the full season to us needing a new manager quickly, because to be honest we're looking like one of those teams in free fall where the manager has lost the dressing room rather than a rebuilding team looking for an identity.

If you list the things you want to see from your team we don't check a single box right now. There's no belief, no cohesion, no ideas, no fight. This looks like a spirited comeback on paper but it's really a combination of Villa backing down with their entire squad and their moms, and three individual pieces of skill that gets us the win today.

We can talk all day about defensive mistakes from individuals, but it's bigger than that. It's not about single mistakes, it's not about formations, it's not about starting this player over that player. We just don't look like a TEAM anywhere on the pitch. Something is seriously wrong because we look worse right now than the last year under Wenger.

Completely agree. Do you see any scope for difference if and when Bellerin Tierney Holding (Although he isnt a nailed on starter in the same way) and Pépé settling in?

The only hope i have for that, which is a little, includes Emery changing too, which I just can't see happening.

Well, well, well ... after slating him for his first half display, I now vote him my MOTM for us. Stand up Guendozi! Not sure if it was Emery's instructions, or his own drive. He was making more effective forays into the Villa penalty area than never before. Kudos to him!

That 10 man display in the second half is what we have been missing for a long time. Gutsy, driven, purposeful, energetic and an all round team effort. Aubameyang was so estactic when he scored. And his celebration at the final whistle showed what the win meant to him. The team finally defended with purpose when it mattered. Nobody was going to allow Villa back. They were taking yellows for the team. And Sokratis was urging the defence on.

Hope the team builds from this win. It was a huge team effort in the second half.

All 3 substitutes made a huge difference.

Difference sure, but it's hard to see two full backs making everything else fall into place. Really trying not to be too harsh with Emery but I'm struggling to find positives with the way we play at the moment.

It was an amazing win Haz, I loved it, but you are right there really is very little cohesion or shape to our game.

Individual brilliance dragged us back into that game. Notably Guendouzi, Aubameyang and Chambers.

Some managers produce teams whose performances are that are better than the sum of the parts and some produce teams that are worse and inevitably eventually get the sack.

I don't dislike the manager as a person and don't doubt his commitment to the job but it feels like we are having to try and get results in spite of Emery and not because of him at the moment.

Observations ...

Better performance from Pépé

Emery misguided faith in Xhaka will hurt him

Our players jump in too much

Time to replace Maitland-Niles with chambers

Something is up with Torreira... I dunno maybe he handed in a transfer request this summer. There’s must be a reason he isn’t getting games

Aubameyang has saved Emery’s job on multiple occasions

Great choice to Pick Saka shame it didn’t come off

We need holding, Tierney and Bellerin back asap as ...

Luiz and Sokratis can’t play together, too slow and one paced

The team still looks unstructured, Emery got so lucky today

I think Guendouzi is the Arsenal captain in as much as he leads the team. Even at his age he is the heartbeat of the side.

We’re winning despite Emery not because of Emery.

Agree about Guendouzi. Fantastic character. Also, our midfield
Looked so much better when Willock and Torrieira came on.
