Me neither Dec ... I usually only watch half an hour of a replay while having my breakfast but I find the soccer served up generally a monumental bore , when pressed back the ball goes to the goalkeeper , passes exchanged back and forth across the back reminiscent of Wenger at his best .

So many wayward overhit passes , any contact at all results in someone writhing on the deck in agony .

Play held up while the ref galloping across to look at the screen is hysterical .

Why don't the blow flies sitting in the VAR room make the decision .

Too right. while the pantomime continues on the pitch, most spectators at home have seen the replay 5 times over. I get that it should be the ref making the decision but he should also have a small tablet or something he could refer to. Overall with some rare exceptions I think VAR has got 95% of decisions right.

Schzeszney was rubbish and I'm glad we got 10 million from him.

France totally dominant for about 40 mins but only scored once. Now it's 1-2. More drama.

Just gets better and better. Mbappe really deserved a goal for this performance

What a stunner. Mbappe is electric. 4-2.

Superb assist by Giroud.

Doesn’t he just? It’s a game to remind one why they fell in love with football.

I actually haven't been that impressed with France as a team - individual efforts from Mbappe and Pavard is the reason they'll probably go through. They've been better than Argentina though who are just plain bad. Shocking waste of talent to not get more out of that group of players.

Each to their own I suppose. I’ve been very impressed with them (as well as entertained). Most teams (who score) score from individual efforts.

Yes. I’ve always liked him as a player. Committed to the cause, selfless, likeable and remarkably prolific

Agreed. They've looked excellent to me and growing nicely into the tournament.

They haven't been bad at all, but they haven't created that many chances as a result of organized play either. I think they might have the best team in the tournament on paper in terms of individual quality and balance so I just expect a bit more from them. Mbappe is world class though obviously.

The only thing that could make things better would be an announcement that Arsenal have signed Mbappe.

That being said they're in the quarter final now and there's more to get out of this team. Not a bad position to be in.

Argentina were just a shambles throughout the tournament. No organization, no identity. Mark Messi closely and you'll shut them down, very disappointing.

For me right now Organised Play equals Tiki Taka. More than happy to watch an alternative

Not necessarily! I think Colombia, Croatia, Belgium and England are good examples of teams who I've found entertaining this tournament without playing tiki-taka football.

By the way, if we're going to spend big on a young defender this window I wouldn't mind Pavard. Looks like a real talent, not even playing in his natural position for France.

As I said it’s all in the eye of the beholder. That France performance today excited the passion in a way that none of the England ones have for me. Looked threatening and provided the unexpected.

England have been okay and for that I am grateful. Especially their increased technical proficiency, similar to their lower age groups.

But that France effort is one that will live long in my memory.

Oh, it was definitely an entertaining game - can't complain when 7 goals are scored!

Now onto Uruguay with Torreira starting in midfield.

Great player though. He really gives it everything. As do the whole Uruguayan team.
Their QF with France is a mouth watering prospect.

That was a great game. Missed the first game but I have it on DVD to replay. Kick off is midnight and 4am over here. Pick one or the other. Off to the gym seeing I am up so early.

Tonight was all about Cavani. Brilliant performance. That first goal is probably the best of the tournament for me.

Hard to pick best of today, never mind best of the tournament.

An absolute extravaganza.

A very effective , skilful player might be more apt .

A great player should have it all . All too ready to cheat / feign injury would stop his advance to greatness in my book.

First game I've watched couldn't help thinking Ronaldo's upper most thought in a match is "How do I look on the big screen "

France-Argentina is the type of football I love to watch. Stunning goals from Mbappe, Pavard and Di Maria. The Mbappe play and goals had TH14 written all over it. I liked the third goal, when he took it forward himself in the tight penalty area, and just shot it with effect. Glad there wasnt the familiar, pass it backwards just to move forward play we got used to watching Arsenal.

I thought France played very good football, and has suddenly become a key team to watch.

The left back Laxalt of Uruguay, is all energy, press and desire. I would love for such a player in our team.

It was good to see Ronaldo sportingly shake the hands of the officials after the match. Glad he didn't make it all him after the match, by continuing to argue about match proceedings.

It was a night of good football yesterday.

If referees actually gave to odd yellow card for simulation I reckon it would stop. Its a pity because apart from this unsavory aspect that was a masterclass from Saurez. His movement off the ball is something to behold.

I know there has been a quote from the sampdoria president that torreira has left.
Can't get clearer than that I suppose but until he is announced there is always that fear we could get gazumped.
Really hope not.
Looks like just the type of player we need.

He did didn’t he. Throwing himself in front of shots and putting his body on the line. Really the type of player we haven’t had for years.

Torreira is undersized, looks like a typical Wenger signing.
