Great to see you back on the forum, albeit at such a sorrowful moment.

Bernard's passing at such a relatively young age is just so so sad, especially for his family. He was almost larger than life with his eccentricities and was certainly one of a kind. The forum just won't seem the same with out him.

All ok thanks. My brother passed two Thursday ago we had that poem at his funeral. He went out to “The Angel” now 65 joined the old gits army. Work out a bit lots of walking. Take about 10 medications a day. But hey Arsenal are playing some good stuff and the atmosphere at the Emirates incredible. Kid are 18 and 21 now with apprenticeships in accountancy. Wife’s retired from bank. Me still working. To scared I’ll be bored if I retire.

You're right too, he might actually have been the most stubborn bloke on the whole internet, which is an astonishing achievement in itself. I hardly ever agreed with him but he was always willing to keep the discussion going and there's no denying that he was a much better fan than I have ever been. It's touching to hear such warmth and fondness from those who really did know him and are already missing him, and I feel so sad for his poor family who must be absolutely devastated. Gone far too soon but not forgotten.

With Granit Xhaka in the middle of his redemption arc, I think it's time for chocolate to have his as well.

The truth is life moves pretty quickly. Nobody really tells you this during the earlier parts of your life.

One moment your holding your first born for the first time, next moment he’s 16 and you think where did that go.

If you have a demanding worklife there are very few moments of inward reflection that happen until something like this happens. I do kind of admire people who adopt something to break this stance, maybe Buddhism or forms of diverting your thoughts on what’s actually important. The rat race of paying a mortgage or acquiring wealth isn’t the meaning or purpose of life at all.

Once after a cup final defeat I left the ground berating the side swearing wound up then a bloke walking next to me who must have been quite old put his arm round me and said don’t worry son at least you’ll know you will get to see them try again. I quite rightly felt an idiot and every once in a while something happens to correct your outlook on things.
