I fully agree OMOH. Indeed, the attempt to buy Vlahovic strongly suggests we do have the sort of money Top Gun mentions. I suspect it’s more a case of not finding anyone because Vlahovic wanted to join Juventus. Does anyone know how he’s doing at Juventus? I saw a few reports that he started well but that was some while ago.

Joint top score in Serie A. But I think we got the better player in Jesus, at least in terms of current ability.

Many thanks.

I’ll try and remember to look up the number of games Nketiah has started tomorrow.

Morning OMOH. It’s very easy to look up as the match day programmes now give not only players’ appearances (starts and as a sub) for the current season, but the figures for their entire Arsenal career.

The PSV programme said Nketiah had made 42 starts and 62 sub appearances for Arsenal, scoring 25 goals (no breakdown is given for goals scored as a starter or sub).

Now he started the PSV game and didn’t score. So his details are now 43 starts, 62 sub appearances and 25 goals. Hence Nketish has played 105 games, of which 41% he started and 59% came on as a sub. So far he’s scored a goal every 4.2 games. Can’t calculate the goals per minutes (when or if he came off as a starter and came on as a sub), simply because I don’t have that data.

4156 minutes, which gives 166 minutes per goal. Not bad at all for a player at his stage of development.

Impressive bit of searching there Decaf. Any idea if minutes played are stopped at 90 or include injury time?

I would guess the latter, but I don't know. Many of the sub appearances would have been just a few minutes at the end I imagine.

So Cristiano wouldn't go on as a sub. Man Utd won't win anything with him I've heard a friend who is a Man Utd supporter say. Years of being a top player has made him arrogant and think he's bigger than the whole.

Perhaps the United bosses knew that but felt that the merchandising bonanza was more important.

From what I can gather from football history, 40 years or so ago, Forest vs Liverpool would have been a huge game.

The battle of Agincourt was 1415. If you were about 20 then you’d presumably have been born around 1395. So a belated happy 627th (or thereabouts) birthday LTG.

Must have been where I learned the V sign (if history is to be believed).

And so they did. Hit the post of an open goal in the last minute too.

Henderson was a hero.

What are the odds that BHA will make City drop points as well?

I was telling a Liverpool supporting friend that their recent big win may spark a run like they had before. Guess I was wrong. Not sure what their problem is but whatever it is, long may it continue. However, to be fair, they are the only between City winning 4 or 5 straight EPLS.

So after beating Manchester City, Liverpool lose to rock bottom (before the game) Nottingham Forest. Anyone who thinks football is predictable is a bit barmy.

Liverpool 11 points behind us having played a game more.

We need to cherish every dropped point of a big 6 side. Top 4 is the minimum for us this season. The more the likes of Liverpool fall behind the better our chances. The more of the top 6 we put a big gap between the more we can start thinking about top 2.

Then let’s see where City and ourselves are after 25 games and we can talk about a title race if we’re still there.

Can’t decide what result I want in Chelsea v Man U later so it has to be a draw, then hopefully we win and pick up 2 points on both.

Spurs won’t find it easy at home to Newcastle either. I think I’m right in saying this is the first really decent team they’ve played at home as all their tough games on paper have been away

Thanks B - that suggests he is not a rookie but is still developing. No Kennedy or George but not a bad young player either.

On Vlahovic, it seems the Old Lady was his dream move, but they will be struggling to make the ECL next season.

Yes, they were great rivals with many splendid players, including for Forest the brilliant Peter Shilton in goal, John Robertson on the wing, Trevor Francis and Tony Woodcock up front and the vastly underrated John McGovern in midfield. Also a favourite of ours, Viv Anderson in defence.

A 0-0 in the Chelsea v Man Utd game is the best result for us. If one of them is to win, I would prefer Chelsea. A Utd loss with Ronaldo being dropped could be damaging for them.

For me the best result for Arsenal in the Chelsea v Manchester United game has to be a draw.

I think you’re right that Newcastle at home won’t be easy for Tottenham. I suppose I’d prefer Newcastle to win (albeit I think they can challenge for Europe) but will be perfectly happy with a draw.

As well as Viv Anderson (who would be the right back in my best Arsenal team from players I’ve seen), don’t forget Tony Woodcock joined Arsenal. 169 appearances and 68 goals.

Rich, are you willing to revise that and say top 3 is the minimum? Would you be okay with 2 from Man Utd, Chelsea or Tottenham getting past us? This is assuming City will win the league.

Based on how we’ve started I think it is ok to revise expectations slightly in the season but equally to not be overly disappointed if we don’t reach them but still do reach our primary target.
Yep njuries will be key for us. If we keep this squad healthy then I’d say top 2 is where we should be.
I really want us to win something though and am desperate to win the Europa League this year.

It's not because I'm a gooner and Henry is the PL's greatest striker and I don't want to see that accepted fact go the way of Haaland. It just doesn't seem 'fair' for the lack of a better word. Haaland will likely destroy all scoring records in a season and if he stays long enough, a lot of PL scoring records over a career.

I'm guessing either of Real Madrid, Barcelona or PSG will come calling with 'an offer he can't refuse' sooner rather than later.

No idea he was born in Leeds. Just found out. Wow.

I heard an interesting debate.
Is Arsenal that good? Or are Man Utd, Chelsea and Tottenham playing that badly? Are both mutually exclusive?
And got me to thinking, why not look at a previous season's table after 10 games?
