Tickets gone on sale to family and friends for chelsea. Rarely happens, I hope it’s because of covid concerns rather than an appetite to attend The Arsenal. I’ll be there and will be getting there nice and early as I expect DHDs concerns around digital ticketing will be well founded.

Could it also be because of the lack of overseas fans who would normally travel to games? I dont know how many of the fans at an average match day have come from overseas but I can imagine people making a long weekend of a trip to London and taking in an Arsenal game at the same time.

I think I read normally there is something like 3-5k fans from overseas per match day at the Emirates so not the majority unlike the gleiber forum where revolting Englishmen are outnumbered 3 to 1 so it could have an impact but not a major one. Covid having an impact

What on earth makes you say that? Everything I’ve seen from Ødegaard gives me the firm impression he does want to be at Arsenal.

Yes Ødegaard makes sense. At the price quoted (43m euros so about 37) it allows us to potentially bring in another player (keeper, striker) rather than spunking the entire budget on Maddison who admittedly I think is better right now.

I agree, TG. I liked the thought of Maddison because of his bigger goal threat in the short term and being a bit more dynamic. However, if 43m euros is correct its a no-brainer to bring him in if it allows us to add another striker or goalscoring midfielder. Most probably will end up being the only signing though.

Realistically, if we want to climb the table we need more goal threats. Without us adding another forward or goalscoring midfielder then top four may depend on a break-out year goals-wise from Martinelli and both Saka and Emile Smith Rowe adding more goals to their game.

‘Maddison’ and ‘dynamic’ in the same sentence? Good grief!

Willock to Newcastle is officially done.
Seems like it’s at least £20m initially and rising with add one to at least £25m. Deal includes a sell on clause.

The very best of luck to Willock. I will be cheering for his success with the Toon.

At the end of the day, a pretty good deal for a guy that would probably not have made it here anyway.

Arteta needs to print this out and stick it on the dressing room wall before this evening’s game. Excellent motivator (one would hope).

Good grief. Another way of fleecing the fans. I hadn’t seen this one coming. Of course Man City are taking advantage here - as if they needed to!

I'll take Ødegaard.

Really hope Arteta doesnt try and be clever for his own good and do something silly like a false nine.
Balogun should be given a chance to show what he can do.
Him or Martinelli.
They are both part of the first team squad so play them.

Oh, I forgot about the awful false 9 experiments. Thinking back didn't Arteta do it with Willian early on in the season, was it Man City away? and then doing it again vs Villarreal away in the semi with Smith Rowe as a false 9.
Surely he won't do that. :1cry:

Oh yes he could, a false 9. No mention of Willian not being unavailable tonight. Arteta never should underestimate any of his opponents. Maybe a Super Sunday this weekend, hopefully not a Fallout Friday opening game.

Bench is not much to write home about apart from Saka, but then of course we're missing Gabriel, Partey, Aubameyang and Lacazette.

You'd think 4-5 of those on the bench we're looking for buyers for and would happily let go

I wonder if we’ll have enough to fill a subs bench. :20hospitals:

Nevertheless a rather exciting looking starting lineup!

Willian not in the squad seems telling, he's been training with the team as far as I can see so it looks likely a move is on the cards there.

Polish TV suggesting Martenelli is leading the line.

I really like the line-up. It might not work but its bold, pacy, youthful, energetic, hungry.

Let's see how it goes.....fingers crossed.

I'm certainly more excited about watching the game now.
A lot of young players, 2 debutants - we're going to need some big performances from some of our more experienced players to help manage the game - Xhaka, Tierney, Leno, Pépé need to help out the young players tonight

If that tackle wasn't the first foul in the game and 3 minutes in it should be a yellow. Hate when refs let the first one go, it was a very late and poor tackle on Emile Smith Rowe

That’s the least of our concerns. Doesn’t really matter.

At least the passing seems to have a purpose rather than simply recycling,

Chambers poor clearance, we had a few times to clear it. Wondered whether it had even gone out for a corner. Chambers then slow to close down, let him inside on his right foot and Leno beaten at his near post.

With the young team we have out and our problem creating chances and scoring I can't help bnut feel this is it for us tonight

Balogun needs to cut the flicks out and start holding it up and laying it off. Play it simple

This won’t be easy to get out of.
