I love Keown but he forgets our limited options.

Lots of reports saying Tierney and Luiz will be done tomorrow. I’ll wait and see but if it happens that is a fantastic window for Arsenal.

Hardly a surprise though really.

Most people on here were predicting this would be a great transfer window for us. :icon_rabbit:

United selling Lukaku is a bizarre one.

They don’t seem to have a replacement unless someone is coming in today the media haven’t caught on about.

Apparently the reports that Tierney is injured for 8 weeks are not quite true. It now seems more like 2 weeks

Never rated Luiz - good footballer, but a pretty poor defender. Definitely an upgrade on what we have though, and for the fee mentioned it's a really good deal if our first choice targets weren't possible.

Tierney seems like a done deal too, really excited by that one. When you look at how Celtic fans react it's as if we've snatched Maradona from them.

Luiz is not an upgrade. Has the potnetial to be a second Mustafi. I have seen play well but he is liable to drop a clanger on an all too regular basis. Cannot for the life of me see why we are getting this guy.

Like I said, I've never really rated him as a defender, but it's hard not to see him as an upgrade on Mustafi and Chambers at the very least. He played almost every game last year for a team that were significantly more defensively solid than Arsenal.

Will probably drop a clanger here and there, but will also improve our distribution from the back. As a cheap stop-gap until we can revisit our main targets in January or next summer I think it's a good idea.

While the 30 mil reported offer from Everton for Iwobi seems like good business, it comes with the risk that Iwobi may have a breakout season based on his African Nations Cup performance. That performance could be looked at a couple ways. One, his game has been raised to a higher level or two, he is facing quality less than what he would face in the EPL (no disrespect to the various teams in that competition).
Lastly, with the window drawing close, what business can we do with that money other than sitting on the money till we find a player in the next window?
What about usurping their deal for Smalling and buying him with the 30 mil for Iwobi? I don't know how Smalling's value but 30 mil towards may be worth it.

He’s better than Mustafi let’s be honest, all we were looking for is a better 3rd choice centre back. His passing is better than any distribution I’ve seen from a central defender before and his free kicks will come in handy. If we can limit the amount of 1 on 1s situations we should be ok.

The alternative sounds like it was signing Rugani for 50 million quid who is unproven in the league or even his own and seemed to have all the hallmarks of Mustafi version 2.0

Ornstein has confirmed deal agreed with Chelsea for Luiz, £8m. I get that there are conflicting views among Arsenal fans, but what’s even weirder is looking at it from a Chelsea perspective. I understand selling him if he wants out, but we’re probably their main rival for 4th place, we’re screaming out for central defenders and they’re basically handing us one of their starters without even being able to replace him.

Another way to look at it is we’re now seemingly a more attractive option than Chelsea for a lot of players. I think that’s been one of the most important things the new regime has done this summer, they’ve clearly raised the profile of the club to where we’re no longer perceived to be in decline. With half the players in Europe laughing at United’s efforts to buy them, it’s a good position to be in.

That’s the thing though, he’s not really a starter for them this season. They are likely to go with rudiger, Christensen and Zouma and that Spanish right back can also play there.

They are overloaded a bit there and he’s on a 120k a week contract and wants to leave because he won’t be a regular any more. Not sure you can pay a salary like that to a bit player.

David Luiz is a very interesting signing.

He's got one of the best passing ranges of any CB in the world which could be a huge plus considering the forward line we now have.

On the downside he's an average defender who suffers from impulsive moments and big lapses in concentration.

For 8m, and in the absence of anyone better, it's a calculated gamble.

That would kind of make sense. However if they bring nobody in today it does leave them kind of toothless up front this season.

It's a bit weird if Lampard don't see him as a starter. I think Rudiger is good, but Christensen is not, and Zouma has been on loan for two seasons in a row. Suddenly our cb options looks like a wealth of options in comparison.

No - But there was a rumour about them on the internet so it has to be true.

Presumably the tape with all his David Luiz's cock-ups would have overloaded the internet :laughing7:

To add to the bizarreness of the Luiz move, Rudiger is injured so Chelsea have to start with Zouma and Christensen against Utd on the first day.

Seems Luiz might have been one of the few players to like playing under Sarri and not under his old teammate. So he wants out, has had his head turned by Edu, leaving them with Rudiger (injured) Zouma(just back from loan) and Christensen. Wouldn’t it be sad for them to implode..

Enough confirmation for me. Apparently Lionel Messi and Coutinho were also seen going thru medicals.

Anyone is an improvement on Mustafi. I am not being hyperbolic. While I never greatly feared seeing Luiz in defense for Chelsea, I have never been "happy" that he was in defense against us. And I don't recall any of us voicing those concerns as well. Can we and should we do better than Luiz? Sure. Tons of players out there better. But if the choice is between Mustafi and Luiz, then its a no brainer.

Well said Soc. His passing will suit the play out from the back routine but I also recall many calamitous defending moments. To the point where I was happy to see him in the opposing lineup. He's no worse a defender than Mustafi though so his positives certainly count as an upgrade.

And they'd probably stay in the medical room getting treatment 3 days into their stay with us. :)

Credit where it's due. If Tierney and Luiz are signed today then it's a very good transfer window. A freshness about the club that is very welcome. Couldn't see it even a few weeks ago but there is a plan so maybe just maybe the final remnants of the old culture and regime are being shifted out. Will take a few weeks to get the team working together but should be interesting to see what happens.

Watford have signed that lad Sarr who was impressive against us playing for Rennes last year. £35m. Good young player but not in Pépé’s class

Arsenal: Pépé, Ceballos, Luiz, Tierney, martinelli, saliba(next year)
Spurs: ndombele, Sessegnon, lo Celso, Clarke
Man U: Maguire, wan-bissaka, James
Man City: Rodri, angelino, Cancelo
Chelsea: pulisic, kovacavic
Liverpool: none

Arsenal have definitely had the best window

Iwobi to Everton for £45m could be on

If we sell iwobi for the same price we buy Tierney, Luiz, Martinelli, and have £6m change then that is some decent business

Being reported as “could still happen”.

Totally baffled, as always, as to what the deadline actually is.

Nketiah on loan at Leeds.

Although we’ve had a good window the jury’s still out as to who’s had the best.

Unrealistic I suppose to expect Nketiah and Willock to get much of a look-in this season given the signings, but I was particularly looking forward to seeing more of those two.
