Pity, I would have loved to see us giving Martinelli a start up front.

Let's hope that Lacazette gets a goal and finds a bit of form.

Sanctions? That horse has long since bolted.

That's what I thought yesterday. But I wonder if Putin has simply gone too far now.

You’d like to think so D. I’d like to think so but his warning to anyone who might interfere was pretty chilling.

Seems to me his only real restraint may come from the Russian people who don’t seem to dislike their neighbours anywhere near Putin’s level.

Lovely start. Arsenal penalty appeal turned down. Wolves goal ruled out for offside after var check. It needed the lines but it wasn’t that close

Phew. Worrying VAR review there.

Good defence though.

Big mistake. Sloppy back pass, you could see it happening. Massive pressure now

Not the start we needed against a team that is extremely difficult to break down

The back pass had to go first time, as soon as Gabriel dallied on it the back pass wasn’t on, it then had to just go down the line

Could’ve passed that back earlier, if that was what he had in mind.

We’ll taken goal, though.

That’s awful. Far too easy. Xhaka just goes wandering and leaves podence in miles of space. Then Jimenez also on miles of space

Wolves are pressing and we’re not. Wolves are playing at a fast pace we’re playing slow. That’s the difference

Arteta has been playing Xhaka higher in an 8 position, I think this was the game to go back to a 2 man proper Central midfield

Xhaka would have shot that much earlier on his left. He waited too long

Time wasting is unreal already. Wolves deliberately taking the free kick 10 yards in front of it where it should be. They know they either get the advantage or the ref moves it back. Time wasted either way

We've been getting into good positions, but the final ball has been lacking a couple of times. Should've had at least one or two more big chances

Cédric is so slow in getting back, surprisingly

Wolves win the ball because the ref gets in the way, Saka has to foul the player to stop a potentially dangerous counter and gets booked...

Ref gets in the way of partey, he loses the tackle and saka makes a trip that is a deserved yellow

We’ve got to find a way to play quicker through their press.

Yeah. Frustrating sequence there wasn’t it? Would never have happened if he hadn’t got in the way.

Oh, and Partey and barn door feature in the same sentence.

Time added on is a bit of a joke, 2 minutes, penalty appeal, long var check and all the time wasting

Apart from the disastrous goal it's not a terrible half. We have most of the initiative, we're getting forward and we do look threatening. Just need more sharpness with the final ball and finish, game is still there to be won.

One big defensive mistake but also some really big mistakes in attack where some easy passes would have put Martinelli or Saka in very dangerous situations

Everything needs to be done quicker. We need to risk more on the high press, any time we’ve pressed seriously we’ve won the ball back higher.

Podence in the space that Xhaka is meant to be in looks our biggest worry, I think Xhaka needs to sit a bit deeper to counter that threat, allow Tierney to push on more and Martinelli to get more central

A better Ref would’ve understood his role in Saka’s foul.

Looks like we’re included in the ‘nobody’.

3 points would be so great. Especially from where we are right now.

Hi Darren,
That and other factors occurred to me about those two. Especially finances related to Chelsea and Everton. Both are billionaires, so sanctions may not impact club monies too much. No doubt it's a bit of a concern currently to the clubs anyway.

Usmanov doesn’t own an English club, so it’s more a question that’s relevant to Abramovich and Chelsea. Usmanov’s business partner Moshiri owns Everton, but last time I saw an estimate of his wealth he had £2m. A bare pittance compared to City’s Sheikh Mansour, Abramovich and Kroenke. And indeed his business partner Usmanov who doesn’t own an English club.

According to Forbes latest, Usmanov is worth 16.8B. As to Everton, not sure if he still has any monetary interest through his USM Holdings, being it was for naming rights at Everton.

There are games when you can afford a defensive error like the one by Gabriel, but I can't shake the nagging feeling that this isn't one of them

Once again I can’t understand why we didn’t get a penalty after 20 seconds. Difficult for the ref to see at full speed but when it’s slowed down as var would have you can see that semedo gets none of the ball and comes in from the wrong side and then you’re asking why would Martinelli just fall over if he wasn’t touched?

Remember Gabriel was booked in the 60th minute for time wasting at Wolves. They’ve been wasting time since the 25th minute

That amount of contact from white was similar to semedo for the penalty. Middle of the pitch so ref has no problem giving it
