N’didi standing on Martinelli’s knee has he tried to challenge him for the goal. Martinelli now seems to be ok! Phew

That’s a deliberate foul.

Knew exactly what he’s doing. Yellow or red

True, we are yet to see a goal ruled out after the restart in play but there’s always a first and it’s always us to set the precedent

You’d have to question what the punishment would be if that was Martinelli just making a pass in the centre of the pitch?
If you strike a ball at goal you’re fair game it seems

Why didn't Vardy start?

3 fouls 1 yellow
9 fouls 0 yellow

I’ll let you guess which way round that each for the two teams

Gabriel now has his shirt nearly pulled off again but no free kick

Thankful for the win but we need a killer instinct and try for a 2nd goal to kill the game off.

That’ll do.

0-1 to the Arsenal.

I’m exhausted. The overload of nervous energy is draining. Great result. Great performance actually.

1-0 away win. Just what was required.

Should have been more comfortable if the refs weren’t awful.

Nice to get back to having a clean sheet

I thought we went a wee bit overly defensive, invited pressure on ourselves. Some balls were headed instead of taken on the foot and a pass played. But we got the win.
Jorginho seemed average this game. He had a few good moments but early on I noticed his passes bounced a bit too much. Picky to observe maybe but....
I don't know, we'll see how he does from here on out. Ødegaard subbed out and we lost our rudder a bit.

A win is a win though, but I'm not confident about us.

Villa away and Leicester away. 2 huge banana skins avoided. Our rivals would have looked at those as potential points dropped for sure

4 of our next 5 at home against bottom half teams. Need to keep the focus

Consistency has to happen in games. Give both or give neither

Ridiculous, wasn't it? Very hard for the team to keep their concentration and intensity when decisions are going so badly against them , but they did just that.

Trossard's assist was very good. Many other players would have taken another touch or slowed it down. He's exactly the cool head and quick feet we need in those positions.

Brilliant performance, considering who was missing. Can't wait for Jesus to come back.

Rubbish. Clear foul.

No ways that should be overturned on the scanty evidence we saw. Clear and evident my b*(&)=x

Was shouting at Martinelli to.step it up as he had been sloppy first half
What a way to throw it back in my face.
Great goal.
Thank goodness he got up and wasn't injured.
Massive 3 points for us.
To take 6 points from 2 tricky away games is brilliant and great way to bounce back from recent blip.
Last 15 was tense. Thought Barnes and that *%^@ vardy would put a spanner in the works but held on.
Well done lads.
Now revenge against Everton.

That's quite a schedule for Arsenal in March.

Arsenal's March schedule

Sporting Lisbon (A) - Thursday March 9, 8pm
Fulham (A) - Sunday March 12, 2pm
Sporting Lisbon (H) - Thursday March 16, 8pm
Crystal Palace (H) - Sunday March 19, 2pm

In terms of quantity of matches it is, but if you were to hand pick some games you had to play in and around european games it isn't far off what you'd choose. lots of home games against bottom half teams in the league.

This is where fixtures can really swing favourably towards some teams. You'll always get people saying 'everyone plays everyone twice and we all start and finish on the same day' but that ignores the nuance of it.
For example you don't really want big fixtures clustered together as they take more effort (in theory). And it is much better to play at home to weak teams immediately following or preceding European games because in theory you can rest players or only be at 70% and still win. If you're 70% away to brentford or brighton after having 4 days less rest you'll drop points

If we make the Europa QF it is an away trip to West Ham sandwiched between
if we make the Europa Semi it is a home game with Brighton sandwiched between

I get what you mean Rich. Just by this schedule looking at number of rest days between matches no matter the weaker teams, home or away, is what I noticed most. Now tighter with the EL matches.

Just need to keep plugging away, take it game by game and hope City drop a few points along the way as well as us.

I would have taken Martinelli off at half time. Shows how much I know :laughing7: :laughing7:
Having said that, if Eddie had been on and had played as badly as Martinelli did in the first half, the knives would really have been out.

Leicester's XG was 0.01 which is evidently a record. That was as comfortable as a 1-0 can be.

I had exactly the same thoughts at half time. As you say, what do we know. :laughing7:

The 0.01 is an amazing statistic.

If it's given as a foul, fair enough. But if you are reviewing then giving that, why are you not giving a penalty for the holding and wrestling that the Leicester defenders are doing when the ball comes in? Let alone the Saka one.

Hi Decaf,

Martinelli has generally been pretty poor since the World Cup despite his goals but in his defence he gets very little support down the left side and despite often being isolated and in a good position to receive the ball he is ignored both by Zinchenko (who is in the centre of the park anyway) and Gabriel.

This is in complete contrast to the right side where passes are quickly pinged out to Saka, White constantly overlaps to create space and angles and Ødegaard is constantly probing.

I do think we need to find a better balance so that both our wingers can create havoc.

I quite like Trossard in that false 9 role. He's very skilful, two footed, very spacially aware and sees the full picture.

They had 1 shot off target against us all game.
They had 19 shots v Man U and 15 v spurs.

We suffocated them, and also I think Leicester were too passive and gave us too much respect as they were fearful of us. That is what being a great team can do, you have the upper hand even before a ball is kicked

Another versatile player and a different way for us to play.
Jesus, Nketiah, Martinelli, Trossard can all play as the notional striker
Martinelli, Trossard, Emile Smith Rowe, Saka, Nelson, Zinchenko can play in the wide areas
