Apologies in advance for the following numerous posts/photos.

Clearing out Dad’s house and have had some fun looking through all my old football cards from the 70’s.

Swaps every morning before school. I still have loads of swaps too.

Anyway, hope you enjoy.

Edit: the uploads don’t seem to want to upload. Will try again later.

The Quizball genius. Ian Ure shouldn’t be underestimated as a central defender either.

Fantastic posts. Thanks, John. 'Twas rather bold of them to feature Jimmy Robertson in a white shirt.

He’s the answer to one of my favourite football quiz questions. Of all the players who have played for both Arsenal and Tottenham, only two have scored for Arsenal against Tottenham and for Tottenham against Arsenal. Adebayor is the easy one to get. So who is the other?

Given the answer away as it’s Jimmy Robertson.

Would you have got it?

Absolutely, I was at the game at Burnley when he scored it. One of the worst games I’d ever seen but on the positive side we acquired him in a straight swap valued at about 50K with our player David Jenkins who turned out a disaster for them. And to top it off I was there with about half a dozen of my spud supporting mates so I took considerable pleasure in it.

Robertson scored for us against Tottenham in a 2-3 home defeat at Highbury (the Clock End net). I also recall he scored a great goal against Charlton at the North Bank net. Could have been a cup game.

As you imply he was way better than Jenkins. A Tottenham fan once told me the reason Bill Nicholson wanted Jimmy Robertson out his club, even if it meant swapping him for a less good Arsenal player in Jenkins, was that he was having an affair with a teammate’s wife. A forerunner of John Terry?

James Robertson - we had two who played for us - both Scottish wingers.

Just looked the other up in the handbook from a few years ago. As well as the Jimmy Robertson who we got from Tottenham in a swap for David Jenkins, there was a James W. Robertson who played one game only for Arsenal, in 1952. Do you remember him?

A bit more on James W. Robertson from Arsenal.com. As OMOH said, a Scottish winger.

Thanks for that. I hadn’t realised (or alternatively I’d forgotten) that Tommy Lawton had played for us in his final time as a player. Before my time - honestly.

Europa League group draw will be this afternoon. The Champions League one was yesterday. One group includes Bayern, Barcelona and Inter. Looks highly likely that one of those will be dropping into the knockout rounds of the Europa League. My guess would be Inter Milan but who’s to say?

We're currently favourites with the bookies for Europa League, and I think it will stay that way as long as no English clubs drop out of the Champions League and also Real, Bayern, Barca, Atletico, PSG and Juve. Although I'd still fancy us against some of those teams.

As well as Inter, likely 3rd place teams from what I can see might be, Sporting/Marseille, Benfica, Dortmund/Sevilla, Napoli/Ajax. Still some very strong teams there.

Marseille got Spurs so Tavares and Alexis Sanchez get to play them.

We need the English clubs to make it out of the group - or unrealistically finish 4th) I dont want any of them dropping in to the Europa

Only by name. He would have had a hard time getting in the first team in those days with Freddie Cox, Ian McPherson, Denis Compton and Arthur Milton all excellent flank men.

I want Spurs out of the CL asap. Rather face them in the Europa than risk them winning the CL!

Like Stalin's ghost saying Putin the biggest threat ever to Russia. Surreal. Had this come from pretty much any other President or VP it would have been more respected. He's not wrong about Trump's present and future danger but...pot and kettle. As odious as Trump is and was as President, he wasn't the architect of literally 100s of thousands of people (and I'm being conservative) killed, maimed, forever scarred.

Darth Cheney.

Me too Decaf. Anyone can win a cup competition as we’ve seen countless times. I’d also be comfortable with playing them in the Europa League. Think we’re more than capable of beating them.

Isn’t this the problem

You have got this guy Trump who is essentially a criminal in a suit in the pocket of a Russian dictator who can do endless damage and criminality yet any voice that opposes him gets shouted down and their own eccentricity targeted. There’s a difference right ?

The world has serious problems if Trump is re-elected in 2 years. I bet the folks in Ukraine will be watching with interest

When Teresa May, Boris Johnson, Dick Cheney and others are considered too left wing the west has serious problems on its hands.

Obviously not being in England, I can only assume we are mentioned regularly when people talk about how the season has gone so far and Liverpool for the opposite reasons.

That said, I would say, given from where both clubs started from, Fulham have started more brightly than us. Win over a very tough Brentford squad, draw with Wolves is an average result, but a draw against Liverpool is extremely impressive from a promoted side.

We should assume they will be 'a very tough nut to crack' :42laughter: and my fear is we go into the match a bit too overconfident.

27th Aug - Fulham (h)
30th Aug - Villa (h)
4th Sept - Man U (a)
8th Sept - Europa Game 1
11th Sept - Everton (h)
15th Sept - Europa Game 2
18th Sept - Brentford (a)
Then it is the international break before we start the same run of games again

7 games in 23 days, there will need to be rotation. I'd expect Europa to take the brunt of that rotation but if we draw someone like PSV, Monaco, Sociadad and we're scheduled to play them away in game 1 or 2 you need to be careful to not just throw in all the reserves.

That Brentford away after the Europa game is going to be tough depending on who we field in the Europa match.

PSV, Bodo/Glimt/ FC Zurich

Avoided anything too far east for long travel. I probably don't know enough about the smaller teams to know their pedigree. It is clearly a group we should win

Bodo/Glimt lost to Dynamo Zagreb in the CL play off
Zurich beat Hearts 3-1 on aggregate to make it in to the Europa league draw

Never even heard of Bodo/Glimt before. Apparently from Norway. Should walk the group as winners. If PSV are the strongest opposition, we’re miles better than them.
