Moved away from the standard pattern of play with a quick throw in and a player willing to take a shot when a pull back would be the natural option

Love that Saka trusted his right foot instead of trying to cut back in on his left. The chance was only there for his right foot

Forest have actually been far more positive in this half. Committing more men forward and pressing higher. It’s helped us

I just don't get taking Martinelli off in the last 15 minutes.

Both sides have been a lot better.

Ref just gave us that throw and then changed his mind to give it to Forest after they ran to grab it quickly

For goodness sake, var seemingly desperate to check for a penalty for Forest there. Absolutely zero in it at all!

2-1 FT. Shouldn’t have had to sweat the last 5 minutes there

A bit clumsy from Saliba for their goal, but otherwise a pretty good half.

Emile Smith Rowe did well.

Hair close to getting a draw. Shouldn't have been that close at the end.

We were infinitely the better team tonight but the prem has a way of punishing any slight slip or lapse.

Did the job. I always say it, any away win in the prem needs to be treated as gold dust, no matter the performance or score.

Nice to win in the first game and now see what others can do. Villa getting tonked at home right now. City have a very easy run of winnable games, just as their big players come back, 4 home games in their next 5.

Liverpool at home next - huge game

Emile Smith Rowe did well.

Saliba misjudged that he could just go and win the header without worrying about the striker and he got bumped by their strong striker - who to be fair got very lucky with the bounce of the ball but then made a smart finish. Saliba has to judge that he can’t go and win that header cleanly so deal with the man

Maybe it’s overly looking for positives but considering it was wildly reported that both White and Saka had been carrying knocks for a while I thought tonight there was a bit more of a zip about both of them. Saka in particular looked more dangerous than he has done recently and had a burst of pace on his dribbles.

Please for Jesus to get a goal and assist. When he plays quickly and almost more off the cuff than in our standard patterns of play he looks so much better.

Sambi Lokonga playing well for Luton for a few games now. Bit of a forgotten man for us. Let’s see how he finishes the season for Luton. If he keeps playing well and keeps them up then at the worst we should get a decent fee for him

Eze with 2 brilliant goals tonight. A few injuries just holding him back. I think he’d be a great addition to our midfield

I do like Sambi. Unfortunately not good enough for Arteta to develop further. Glad to see Luton climbing up the table.

They were excellent. I was also impressed with Ødegaard. His off-the-ball work was super in the second half.

I don't think we are quite back to the levels we were before our big dip, but there are signs that the confidence levels and cohesion are on the up.

I think when we get the lead we want to protect I’ve noticed Ødegaard playing a fair bit deeper. In theory it makes us incredibly secure on the ball in deep possession. Maybe it’s also to counter Havertz who stays higher as last year Xhaka might have naturally taken that role to drop deeper

White had an argument at Zinchenko at full time. Seemingly blaming him for the goal we conceded. Arteta was asked about it and said he loved it because it showed the players are willing to push each other and are not accepting the loss of the clear sheet.
As long as it’s done in the right way and is over as quickly as it began then I agree with Arteta. All the best teams have arguments and standards they they expect of each other. I would also say Saliba was more at fault for the goal than Zinchenko

Do you honestly believe that thinking a player is very good is incompatible with thinking that playing him for every single minute is a bad idea?

You rest a player to keep that player fresh and to give minutes to fringe players in case you need them.

It is a fairly minor point. Nobody is calling for Arteta to be sacked for it, by the way.

No but people citing this every time he doesn’t perform is a little boring.

Hes run him into the ground blah blah blah

A word of advice, Arsechums.

If you find yourself laying in bed with a cup of tea, quietly reading the paper on a Saturday morning, and the phone rings, and a nice lady from BT tells you they’d like to upgrade your Broadband at no cost from a piddling 300 to a whopping, big boy’s 900, tell her to *%^@ the *%^@ off. Tell her quickly, loudly and without a second thought. Then end the call and resume your life of peace and tranquillity.

We've agreed a permanent deal with Villa for the sale of U21 left back Lino Sousa. I'm sure this will cause much annoyance from Arsenal fans who have never seen this kid play!

No idea what size the fee is, but we need to realise that as much as we want young homegrown talent to break through that becomes harder and less likely the more successful we are - only a very small handful will break through and we need to also consider that selling academy players at the right time is a great way to remain on the right side of FFP. Look how City do this.
