He suffered an injury which essentially caused him to miss a full season. That's going to skew the stats. In addition, the 1 goal in 6 is hardly representative when many of those appearances are 10 or 15 minutes as a sub. Two seasons ago when he got the run of games, he was really good and finished the season as our second highest scorer, I think. He got 10 league goals that season, something Havertz has yet to achieve. Also, I know you are trying to be objective by saying if we ignore the academy graduate piece, but that is very important. He's Arsenal through and through. He gets it. That makes a difference. He at least deserves a run and certainly ahead of the likes of Vieira.

Hi Dec, I don't disagree with this. I was just putting the other side of the argument out there. I think as fans we can sometimes inflate the ability of a player when they're out with injury. I'm sure I'm guilty of it, I bemoan the loss of Timber to his awful injury as he was our swiss army knife defender who would make us more unpredictable - but we only saw 50 minutes of him in a competitive game.

In the 21/22 season where he got 10 league goals he did start the season very well, but ended it a bit indifferent, he lost his place to Martinelli part way through the season and scored 3 goals in 3 games coming off the bench to seal or put the gloss on a convincing win. 22 starts in the league that season, he only completed 90 minutes twice after november that season

Hi Rich,

I realise that you were playing devils advocate to some extent and there’s no doubt that a player’s abilities are subject to exaggeration when out injured. With Emile Smith Rowe, I just think he should get more game-time. Martinelli is struggling this season, Havertz is unconvincing and Eddie doesn’t really have a great ceiling. There’s a lot more room for rotation.

if we sell smith rowe how do we adapt the status quo chant ?

who replaces the smith rowe part? that alone should mean he’s unsellable

'Nuno Tavares' scans quite well.

If you highlite some text then right click it, does a menu come up ?

If so, it might have a Bing or Google search built in ?

Firefox rules for Macs/Windows - It supports many plugins too.

Thanks for your help, Rog. It didn't quite work (possibly due to my ineptitude), but never mind.

When we look at squad building we need to be mindful of the homegrown rules.
Current players who qualify are:
Raya, ramsdale, Saliba, White, saka, rice, Emile Smith Rowe, Martinelli, Nketiah, Nelsen

Of that list of 10 there are at least 4 who have question marks on their future.

Zinchenko and Jesus back. Trossard starts ahead of Martinelli.

Man for man we have a better player than Palace in all 12 positions. That’s not being arrogant, but no excuse not to win today

Not a bad idea to hold Martinelli back.

Smith Rowe saved Arteta due to his goals and he has no problem banging them first time with placement. If he can stay out off the sick bay he’s a great player.

A clear foul by Gabriel I'm surprised VAR didn't have a look at it. Anyway we'll take it. Disappointing to see Saka playing. He needs a rest.

Good job we’re good at set pieces. We have been far from fluent but really solid at the back. Still play in fits and bursts and too slow for my liking.

2-0 at half time, we need to turn the screw second half and go and win this by 4

Would agree. Not great but we are 2 up. A couple of goals extra would give us a lift.

Settle down Raffles Management ... it's been credited as an own goal .

While happy to be 2 -0 up I'm a bit disappointed with our failure against such an abject side to create anything cohesive on the ground .
