We're just a terribly frail team. Signings are definitely needed, but it's not a lack of quality on paper that makes us perform like this time and time again against teams who are weaker or on the same level as us. There's no belief in the team, we're playing without any real conviction. I don't see how signings will magically fix that.

We just failed to score a goal from open play in a two-leg European semifinal, nobody can look at these games and say at least the effort was there.

The first 45 mins we played at testamonial pace.

It's not like Villareal are any good.

Arteta cannot seem to get any sort of tune out of these players. He should do the honorable thing and resign.

Feels like he sets up for games to be deliberately tight, knowing the odd moment will decide it one way or the other. When you have error prone players that is only going to work out one way for you.

It was such a gutless performance. needed to score but too scared to actually properly push to do so in case we conceded.

Desperately poor to go out with such a whimper, 0-0 at home to what is really not a great side - but neither are we.

You can't not turn up for 180 minutes and expect to go through

Yep, This is what Peps City would be if they couldn’t keep erasing the mistakes of poor purchases. In fact this is pretty much what you did see in his first season.

That’s not to exonerate Arteta, it’s his job to get the best out of the players he has.

I've long said there is something intangible about this squad, and previous squads that permeates them. The lack of belief, fight, sense or urgency on a consistent level or when the situation calls for it.

It doesn't seem to matter who is managing them. I fear its something in the club itself. The environment atmosphere, something.

The question for me is, will getting rid of Arteta solve that? Would this squad play with more emotion if we bring in Pep or Klopp? We can't but one would think players would be highly motivated by a manager with succh prestige. I'm not so sure.

You're right, Haz, the players aren't as bad at this. I just do not undertand how a bunch of largely international footballers can perform with such lethargy, such a lack of intent and such a lack of quality.

When you go out needing just 1 goal you expect the defending team to be on their knees at the final whistle having defended for their lives, summoning every last bit of effort to run and block......we had maybe 3 shots on target over both legs. Such a feeble performance.

So much wrong with this club from top to bottom. Small signs of improvement are quickly realised as blips as we return to boring normality. Arsenal are just boring now.

This season has been a combination of lots of players playing nowhere near their level, plenty of players proving they really aren't good enough for us even at their best level and the occasional bright spark from young players who shouldn't have to be dragging the team through this mess. Alongside this our manager seems to paralyse the team with his instructions and tactics.

First half was bad but we hit the post twice. Slightly unlucky

We just aren’t that good.

People saying we have the quality ? Seriously ? Youngsters who aren’t battle hardened at all, one who was on loan at Huddersfield last year, another on a spring break from Spain.

I thought Pépé and Aubameyang were the only ones likely to do anything and our midfield has little passing capability required to play at the highest level.

Chain smoking habitual loser incoming.

I would have loved for Arteta to have been a big success because we really could do with a young manager who could stay a few years, but the truth is he hasn't been a big success, FA Cup apart. The big games we have won have been largely on the back of keeping things tight and playing on the break but there are only so many teams you can do that against.

Wenger's philosophy was to play on the front foot, take the game to the opposition, play exciting attacking football that gets the fans off their seats and score goals. OK, so he did that to the detriment of the defensive side of the game in his latter years but we have to get back to that attacking ethos.

Good riddance to Willian and Ceballos.

With no european football there is a chance to completely purge the squad. We need to trim the squad size down hugely by not playing 2 games a week.
Bellerin, Luiz, Ceballos, Elneny, Nketiah, Nelson, AMN, Willock, Kolasinac (he's still our player), Chambers, Ødegaard, Runnarsson, Lacazette, Guendouzi, Torreira, Mavropanos can all go.

Then see who in the squad has the guts to stay and fight to get us back up the table, I could definitely see a few players we might want to stay start to get itchy feet. Then you could easily have some big clubs sniff around the likes of Saka and Martinelli. They regularly pick off mid table prem players.

If we sack Arteta what level of manager could we actually attract and would want to work here. Yes there is the history and the big name but any manager is facing a complete rebuild, which successful manager wants to put their neck on the block for that? Rodgers turned down Spurs, he won’t come to us and I don’t blame him. For the next 5 years which team has a better chance of success Leicester or Arsenal?

Was always going to happen under KSE wasn't it?, I saw this coming years ago and so should anyone else with half a brain!.

Boycott the f*ck out of the club and watch KSE squirm at the losses until they throw the towel in and f*ck off.

However the state of football for me, and I suspect a big chunk of Arsenal fans (possibly other unpimped clubs?), is just depressing in general,
the likes of City and Chavski contesting the CL final sums it up really.

Bring in 50+1 and it might be game on again, but that's not going to happen is it?, these greedy f*ckers aren't giving up their 'investment' and Boris is too busy
paying off Covid loans and for his flat being refurbished.

My gut tells me though that KSE may sell this summer, they are looking at consistent losses now for the first time, fingers crossed..

If the roles were reversed and it was Arsenal playing for a 0-0 to send us through in a knock out tie I think we can guarantee that we would have been under so much more pressure than anything we did to Villarreal, and I’d count us playing teams at league 2 level who would have put more pressure on in such a knock out tie.

The meek surrender was the absolute worst way to go out.

Post subject:  Re: Supporters Forum

I think Arteta will get til December. And I wouldn’t have a problem with that. With one game a week he’ll have lots of time on the training ground to coach the team.

It might not work and if so he’ll be gone. To give a novice manager a season and a half is a bit daft. Of all managers, this one surely is going to need more time and have the steepest upward curve.
