Isn't the main point why they did another round of testing when it wasn't required? Surely teams would do the test required see it is negative and think 'good that player can play in the next game'. Why take more tests if you don't need to as you could run the risk of a mix up?

The coincidence of this happening at exactly the same time a postponement would have been perfect for Liverpool is just to fishy. And for balance it was probably fishy when Arsenal had a number of players 'injured' so we could call off the NLD, were they too injured to play, or if we were forced to play would we have seen them out on the pitch and playing at 75% fit? We used it to our advantage but didn't break any rules - can Liverpool say they same? Even if they can then why is the equal hysteria and finger pointing by the mainstream media as we had?

edit: also the Athletic article shows Liverpool requested a postponement BEFORE they had any positive tests

Don’t you think we shouldn’t be throwing stones about this right now.

Feels to me like it’s debating the price of fish and chips to be honest

Of course, all clubs are manipulating the rules at the moment and Arsenal have taken a very professional stance on all of this. Never complained when other teams called our games off.
The issue for me is Arsenal have been dragged through the mud for requesting 1 postponement and no other club (20 other postponements) have had anything like the same treatment - which when you see the circumstances around the Liverpool postponement is strange. Arsenal don't need to lead those protests but 'neutral' media types should

South Africa's trajectory in the AFCON is possibly the most ignominious of all.

They won it at the first attempt (1996). were runners up in the next tournament (1998), semi-finalists in 2000, quarterfinalists in 2002, failed to get to knockout stages in 2004, came last in their groups in both 2006 and 2008, and failed to qualify in 2010.

As a former driving instructor you will appreciate such smooth backward maneuvering :laughing7:

However they actually managed to top that in terms of wretchedness in 2012, by failing to qualify after laughably misreading the rules and playing out a draw when they needed to win. An excruciating experience. I stopped watching their televised matches after that. Life is too short.

thats an amazing run...

Nothing quite like it since the Silly Olympics 100m dash for people with no sense of direction.

It does make it a bit more odd to get booked for time wasting when 4-1 up with only 5 mins to go - but, how do you prove it?

Phone records and finding out if the accused player had a relationship with the persons making the bet. How did they catch trippier ? It was via a text message wasn’t it,

The one that I thought was more dodgy was when he was deliberately standing on the ball before the stamp. There’s a few tweets being retweeted yesterday from around January where our fans were claiming they heard there was dodgy betting happening

Yeah I said yesterday it would have to be phone records or emails - I meant if you don't have those how do you prove Xhaka got deliberately carded? You can't

I'd be inclined to investigate the Referees. On the basis that Xhaka is a 'booking waiting to happen', they could pretty much pick their moment in advance.

With Lokonga as the only senior CM available I wonder what Arteta will do tonight.
Options as I see them are:
1) Move White in to midfield and bring Holding in to defence
2) Drop Ødegaard deeper and play Emile Smith Rowe as the No.10

Arteta has tried a 4-3-3 formation before with Emile Smith Rowe and Ødegaard as a pair of roaming No.8s in front of a single holding mid and I don't think it has worked or felt right. I think it is what he wants to evolve the team to trying to mimic the Man City set up when they had De Bruyne and Silva ahead of Fernandinho.

If we do drop Ødegaard deeper then I think it should be alongside Lokonga and make sure he stays in central midfield not wandering in to No.10 spaces

I agree. I mean Gabriel’s sending off the other day.

Bloke was itching to get his red out and it’s very hard to buy this stuff.

I saw the video where Xhaka was booked for time wasting, he waited 20 seconds without taking the free kick until the ref booked him. I don’t really have a problem with that, 20 seconds is a long time to get a game restarted. But let’s see that applied evenly.
What about those occasions when a team decide they want to hurl a long throw in to the box, someone trots half way across the pitch to take it, we wait for the big men to go up etc. If you stood in the same spot waiting to take a normal throw you’d get booked for time wasting but you’ve taken no longer to get the ball back in play

FIFA are proposing limiting the number of over 21 players teams can loan to 6. Brilliant idea in my view. Stops the hoarding of players by top teams and makes teams more accountable for their mistakes in the transfer market.

Forum thoughts on this one. I have a Man U friend who believes McTominey to be 'on his way to world class' and 'in the mould of Steven Gerrard'. If he'd said he thinks he's top class, underrated etc I could put it down to usual club bias - but is it just me who see's nothing but a player who has 1 good game then 3-4 average or poor games? A player who has a decent long range shot and is fairly athletic but can't defend his back 4 and also doesn't get enough goals or assists to be a top class attacking central mid. McTominey is 25 now so it's not like he's some promising youngster.
I said I'd be more than happy if Man U decide to build their midfield around McTominey for the next 5 years. He points out his good games like Burnley at home and then I point out Wolves at home, and any other number of awful games.
I woudn't rank McTominey in the top 15 or 20 Centre mids in the league:

Juve are pushing for an 18 month loan for Arthur. Arsenal only want until the end of the season. 18 months is a big commitment. We really needed the CM reinforcements at the start of the month and still need the additional striker

It is strange, I love the guy but he will never have a bad thing to say about Man U players or managers. He supported Ole to the end and still thinks he did a good job.

He's one of those Man U fans who always believe they're just one defensive midfielder away from being the best side in europe. Thinks all the individuals are world class so it just needs someone to come in and knit them together - they've tried that with 4 different managers with varying experience and styles - perhaps it is now time to reassess that the players aren't as good as people think.

If I went through Man U's entire squad and was looking for players to strengthen our first 11 you'd make a case for Ronaldo obviously, but not exactly a long term buy. I like Greenwood, think he's an exceptional talent but wouldn't put him ahead of Saka. Bruno Fernandes is very good on his day.....but really I cant think of many players I would swap.

I like Leno but Ramsdale is No.1 now and if Leno is sold to raise money then so be it - if we can be one of the teams who take advantage of Newcastle throwing ridiculous money around even better. Ask them for £30m. I cant imagine Leno wants to go there though

Varane, Fernandes, Ronaldo (or Rashford). McTominay over Xhaka for me. Shaw v Tierney is close. Tierney is more consistent but Shaw is more talented. They finished 2nd in the league last season with Solskjaer as manager.

Back to a full strength 11 tonight minus Xhaka and Partey but Partey makes the bench!
Looks like Ødegaard alongside Lokonga in midfield. Plenty of youngsters on the bench

Looking forward to it.

Signing Leno would be a very smart piece of business by Newcastle.

He's not at the level of some of the elite keepers like Allison and Ederson but he's in the pack just below.

His razor sharp reactions and stunning reflexes could be the difference maker in a relegation dogfight and if they stay up would be one of the important building blocks in developing a team to start competing at the top end of the table.

Lokonga on his own in midfield, don’t like the look of that but there’s a decent amount of strength in that side

If partey comes off the bench that’s pretty mental.
