Last one and this is the caption for these pics. In sense, I'm thinking this is kinda wild. But then I think of English football years ago and say to myself, yeah, I can see that happening at the smaller grounds at least.

'With 4 minutes to go the linesman is injured and a gentleman from the crowd kindly steps in .
This is in the 1974 Second Division clash between Leyton Orient and Manchester Utd!
He’s got no kit with him but just borrows a subs warm up top - that ll do!'

Look at the team he was playing in. No threat or service. Brazil ran rings round them.

Jesus needs a goal himself to be honest for club and country. Has this exasperated look on his face a lot.

Is that not just his crazy eyebrows?

Nope. The person made no indication it was a joke.
It seemed way too crazy.

This is very cool. David O'Leary testimonial against Celtic and his brother plays for Celtic. Very, very cool.

Yeovil were the main point of reference for sloping pitches for many years.

Here’s a few real life examples

I recall Barnet being sloped when I saw a reserves match there in '04 (First look at Fabregas)

Don’t remember it being so cool on the night
They came down in force Highbury was packed and the atmosphere wasn’t “testimonial pleasant “ at times

Gakpo looks classy just scored a cracker…would be great for us… can play anywhere across the front 3… sadly I think he’ll be too expensive for us by the end of the WC

Although tournament performances can be deceiving. Based on this week Richarlison looks like a world beater. And who could ever forget the legend that is John Jensen.

Perhaps Apple could be persuaded to buy (the imaginary) Pontefract Athletic instead of Man U. :laughing7:

Mount looking average for England so far. Surely Foden should be in ahead of him.

See, I sort of view this as an interested outsider BUT - USA are spanking us. We are third best in a two horse race. Matter of time.

If he’s average then he’s fitting in quite well. All very lacklustre. Not sure why there’s no press being effected.

Saka not having a great game either.

Not really spanking us in my opinion. They are dominating for sure, but not really looking that threatening thankfully.

Southgate is a tactical dullard.

Which is sad because the skill level of the English players has improved enormously in recent years. We are now as good as any of them.

We just don’t know how to play.

No it’s deliberate

US are the 2nd best team in the group

Means a massive disaster needed to not qualify in the final game. It’s percentage nonsense and not entertaining

Entertaining. You’re dead right. Zero here. Went to see Worthing vs Tonbridge Angels on Tuesday. Loads of entertainment. I must have used up my fun quota for the week.

One shot on target for each team.

“Spanking” - they had one shot on goal :42laughter:

They had 10 shots on goal with 1 on target (hitting the woodwork doesn’t count)

We had 8 shots, 3 on target.

My opinion of course, but they looked more likely to score than us. They looked better prepared and more tactically aware.

Absolutely wouldn’t play the ball forward unless there was a 90% chance the pass was definitely on. It would just go back. I can’t recall seeing anything like that in yonks. No percentage balls in the box. Zero

That has to be instructions given. :14laughter:

We got to the final - he lost - still did better than the other horses, chickens, cows etc.

The journo who was first with the news on Arsenal signing Martinelli, Willian and Jesus has said Arsenal will place a bid for Brazilian midfielder Danilo after the group stages of the World Cup.

Make of that what you will

England were the better team that day but we were undone by superior tactics. To a lesser degree, that happened again today. We were nullified by inferior players.

Who should be blamed for that?

Phew! Glad to navigate that banana skin!! Glad pundits weren’t predicting easy 3-1 wins… that would have been embarrassing…

“Why aren’t we pressing?”

May I present one Mr. Harry Kane… this team is flawed like most of the teams here at the WC with lots shoe horning in “best players”.

Also think TG is right. Went out to not lose. Which… meh.
