Plenty of puff but nothing serious. Set pieces and corners nearly all seem to be targeting the back post area but Southampton have figured that one out.

A bit jerky at times but not really surprising with 3 players off to the right who barely play and even less together.

I'd like to see Jorginho sitting a bit deeper so he can spend less time with his back to goal and for Calafiori to be on the ball a bit more to the left.

Andy Gray I think highlighting the missed drag down on Hevertz and saying it's a clear penalty and then comparing with the exact same incident in Brentford vs Wolves where the penalty is given. VAR is bloody rubbish.

3-0 in the 2nd half.

Calafiori's defending ... this could go pear shaped if we don't wake up

Sterling needs to give the ball to Calafiori

Take Sterling and Jesus off, they don't offer anything for the attack

Quite.

When Rice and Sterling get the ball, they want and extra touch. We need Martinelli and Trossard's directness asap.

Well you picked that one. Thank Christ they’d been exited. Bloody awful for players supposedly at their peak experience wise.

He's awful at shooting. I hope he proves me wrong.

This game and the Leicester game a reminder that you can't take anything for granted in this league.

Nice finish from Saka, but Trossard was selfish there and we were lucky it broke for Saka. Martinelli would have been in if Trossard had played the pass.

9 mins of added time was a joke when it's the team that was time wasting who benefit.

The gears to accelerate the tempo are there but it just seems to only get properly triggered either right at the start or when there is some form of adversity.

I know we were desperate for some backup but Sterling is a complete waste of space. He can shadow in defence but has no aggression or tackling ability. And when on the ball, the player of 5-6 years ago is long gone.

Jesus looks like he had a lobotomy while out injured.

Happy with result but we were very lucky.

Our play when we were 2-1 up was puzzling. The foot came off the accelerator.
I can understand sitting back and trusting our defence when we are a goal up against a good team like PSG. But to do it against Southampton is baffling. We are just giving them a chance to get into the game when we have the ability to dominate them.

Happy and relieved we got the 3 points.

I feel sorry for Jesus. He kept trying but the magic is no longer there.

Sterling could go the same way as Willian. Fortunately he is only on loan.

Martinelli has rediscovered his mojo. Could a goal for Jesus be the same antidote?

He’s definitely one paced. I said this during the PSG game.

He's faced some pacy players. Dibling is seriously quick

His defending can be a bit ropey. He does tend to get too close and get turned, and to dive in.

On the other hand, he wins lots of 50/50s and gets forward brilliantly.

Saka is number 1 in the premier league in terms of
Assists
Chances created
Big chances created
Expected assists

He was well shackled in the first half. But when the game opens up like it did in the second half, he is a complete menace.

And like you said yesterday how can we rest him when he’s the one creating so much. Yesterday being case in point, no way could Sterling or Jesus provide cover. Trossard maybe as he has good feet in tight situations but he’s not going to get past people in 1v1 as frequently.

Until Arteta finds a way to get more attacking play from the left then I think there’s limited chance to leave Saka out.

Keep overplaying him and a serious injury will be just around the corner. Then we won’t even have him. Arteta needs to find alternatives: that’s what he’s paid to do.

Calafiori is an amazing player to watch.

Yes he has some limitations defensively, but I'm not sure I've ever seen a left back play in so many areas of the pitch in the same game. He's literally everywhere and he combines power and strength with such elegance, technical ability, confidence and intelligence on the ball.

Someone described him as like a wild horse and that about sums him up. :laughing7:

Needs to refine a few rough edges but he could be a game changer for us.
