Havertz wasn’t going to win a free kick for that shoulder to shoulder with Hall but the ref gave Newcastle a free kick?! Fine to give nothing but how was it a Newcastle free kick?

Fatigue doesn’t explain Raya’s brain fart.

If you are going to do that, at least do it in an already hopeless situation. We were already dead at 3-0.

A strategic retreat is the right move sometimes.

Of course the entire fall out will be ‘why didn’t Arsenal buy an elite striker….like Isak’ - it’s a silly question. The real question is why didn’t Arsenal buy any striker.

The idea that it’s just so easy for Arsenal to just go and tell a club to sell their best striker to us and we’ll pay them what they want is just such a strange take

I sooo hate this competition.

Glad we’re out - finally. Great shame it wasn’t earlier.

Be worth a red for someone to properly deck Trippier.

They are a rather classless and unlikeable club. Howe is a tosspot, their fans are bitter and hypocrites, take Isak out and they are totally mediocre bunch of thugs.

I don't mind them, reminds me of us during Graham's time. Let's be honest would you rather go out to them or Spurs?

Just didn’t lay a glove on them. So poor in the final third over the 2 legs. Terrible predictable movement, bad choices , zero end product.

They’ve always been dickheads.

I’ll never forget the 98 cup final when their fans turned up on masse simply expecting to win and behaving arrogantly and we turned them over.

We never get a decision at st James park down the years. I hate going there with their inbred fans who have married their own first cousins and moan about everything

I don’t mind Newcastle per se, but they are in the same boat as Chelsea and City, they’ve cheated and cooked the books to get the level of player they have. They are state owned and have cheated the system for a glimpse at success.

If you’re a Newcastle fan you love this, and Newcastle are more than capable of beating the best teams in this league at st James but if you’re a Newcastle fan you should be questioning why the players can get themselves up for these games but not run of the mill games against lesser sides.

The moles are a thing of the past, a bit like Arsenal having a top draw striker!
Hard to believe we got 5 goals just a few days ago :15surprise: Its only the Unimportant Cup so I won't be losing any sleep over this result but
still, you can't win them all - can you?

Since the start of last season we’ve lost 15 games in all competitions, in 12 of them we’ve failed to score. Easy to see where the huge weakness is.

Newcastle fully deserved it but it was a lesson in taking your chances

Well mate you can ask our players similar questions. When was the last time Arteta won any 2 legged ties straight out. We won some of penalties but in CL I don’t think our record is great. It’s okay for people to say they didn’t want to win this cup, but the reality is we couldn’t even win this cup.

Expected goals over the two legs. Newcastle 3, Arsenal 4.2. A total lesson in finishing.

Gordon and Isak start for us (Gordon on the right though!)

Serious strengthening needed to happen in attacking positions in the summer.

Fans can put plenty on Arteta but surely cannot put the lack of a striker signing on him - the board haven’t backed him just when we needed it most

Diabolical performance, talk about after the Lord Mayor's Show.

I thought Nwaneri did well and showed why he is going to be a great player, the rest should be ashamed of themselves.

Toothless in attack and shaky in defence and even our set-pieces were dealt with pretty comfortably by Newcastle.

Saliba's worst performance in an Arsenal shirt, Ødegaard looks a shadow of the player he was a season ago, Martinelli was hopeless and taking him off put him out of his misery.

Nwaneri looked 10 times the player Martinelli did.

Hazard looked a right donkey.

A few chickens came home to roost tonight.

All those corners, no goals, can't remember the last one we scored from now.
Will have to start practicing with Jover in Dubai.
Feel sorry for Ethan.

When are you judging Arteta on with that? He’s had 2 CL ties and won one and lost one to Bayern. He lost some Europa league ties but was that our level at the time? We certainly didn’t have the team we have now.

We lost to Newcastle, it happens. The best teams consistently beat most teams week in week out we do that better than almost anyone in the last 3 years.

Knock out football is decided on moments, Newcastle had maybe 5-6 really good chances over both legs and scored 4 of them. We had easily the same over both legs and scored none. The weekend just gone we had a handful of good chances and scored 5

Guimaraes always seems to play brilliantly against us, but if he played for us he’d never last 90 in any match, same as Joelinton.

Truth is the manager must have played a part in it. I mean we have 3 *%^@*** left backs on the bench tonight and no proper centre forward. What the hell are you doing wrong with the recruitment if that happens.

He wanted Watkins (somebody tell me he would have been worse than what we have tonight I dare you ) but was over ruled because of the price. Thats not his fault

Thing is even outside of the striking department there aren’t enough goals. Few players who shoot from range and Ødegaard is off it right now for his productivity. The squad is really unbalanced

I think even if you allowed yourself full hindsight on transfers and values I still think you’d struggle to do much better than what we’ve built under Arteta. The headlines are £650m. But this is for about 26 new players, a full turnover of the squad. £25m per player on average. That’s a helluva challenge for any manager to get 86 then 89 points with that level of spend. Sounds huge on the face of it but when you see how many you buy it’s not that much.
So yes you could go back in time and sign Isak for £70m and not buy Havertz. Or you go and sign Cole Palmer for £40m instead of buying Lokonga and Kiwior but it’s so unrealistic to expect the club to get every single transfer right and for every player we buy to be at top 6 price but perform as a title winner.

Yes we could have done more but so could every team

With such a small squad you would have to say that rotation is a must an Arteta just doesn't trust the back-ups.
