Spurs in the situation Utd were in with Ten Haag. The one game success versus a season of shite and he keeps his job. Proven to be the wildly wrong choice, and perhaps (hopefully) the same situation at Spurs. The elation of the moment very quickly collapses when things don’t go well at the beginning of the season because the stronger trend isn’t winning, it’s the woeful form.

That being said they’ll probably sign Tel now, and the young players they’be signed could start to mature nicely. It is there for the Totts if they make the right steps. Luckily for us they’ve got Ange and Levy in charge who’s history speaks for itself.

Success is emphatically not defined by winning a meaningless second rate cup.

This is a terrible team, they've had a poor season and this is not success by any definition.

Our 2nd place and semi final of CL is leaps and bounds beyond their mediocrity.

How is it meaningless? They won the second best European competition and now play champions League football next year. Was our Cup.Winners Cup win meaning? You can spin it whatever way you want but they have something to show for the season however bad, we have *%^@ all

I suppose it’s an achievement but you can’t really compare it to the other European trophies prior to the new champions league format. It’s devalued the other trophies so spurs are playing alkmar and bodo glint.

The prize money is half ours for winning it.

I understand it’s not winning a trophy for us but they lost 21 matches this year and if winning it means they have to hang on to postecoglou longer then that might be a pill worth swallowing

As for Utd, their best hope as far as I can see is to actually start to treat this as rock bottom. Like Shaw called it that but unless that attitude permeates the club they won’t take the drastic action the squad needs to affect change.

Identify who needs to go and one way or another get them out. Pay people off a la mustafi etc if you have to. They don’t have the funds even to do what we did when the signed that group of players including Tomiyasu et al when Gary Neville claimed he couldn’t see our strategy.

Back Amorim and buy young players who will go all in on his strategy. I’d sell Bruno and go full Money ball, they have to get money in and his attitude is going to be pretty toxic. Get the big heads out and get in some young players who will properly buy into Amorim’s system. They’re got no Europe ( :42laughter: ) so they can go relatively small squad and go for top 7.

Yes it’s essentially crowning the 37th best team in Europe. Getting to the semi-final of the champions league far outweighs that and the prize money reflects that truth. In real terms though, it’s priceless for a number of reasons, all of which are annoying.

At a human level it brings the unwashed masses of Spuds fans that step further back from the siren-song of the edge of Beachy Head and the sweet release from having to support Tottenham Hotspurs.

So true re United. It's a more severe case of what happened to us under Wenger at the end.

It's complex and multifactorial but one key key factor which Arteta sorted out early was to have zero tolerance for ego and bad attitudes.

The rot at United is deep. They have loads of complacent arrogant players who are happy to take huge wages while not giving their all on the pitch.

As people have said above, it's so hard to address as with FFP you can't just pay off the dead wood and ship them out.

In the build up to the game there was a staggering arrogance to Man U fans and ex Man U players who thought they’d win the match simply because of their history and of occasionally being able to raise themselves for a big game. Spurs beat Man U on all 3 (now 4) occasions they played them this season- they needed to be far more humble

Was a terrible game.

Awful. I don't think I have seen a game in Europe for a while involving teams from the big leagues so low on quality. Amorim's comments suggest deep down he doesn't believe he can turn it around.

The footballers contracts have got so utterly insane it makes players seeing out their contract doing absolutely nothing seem rational to taking a pay cut.

Just look at Rashford and sterling on over 300k a week. Who in their right mind will be offering them that now.

It’s one thing agreeing 1 year pay offs for Özil and aubameyang but something quite different if 80% of your squad is in a similar position.

We were quite lucky in this respect but Arteta did a good job of driving out the players who were not up to standard let’s be honest. I just remember Bernard lavishing praise on Guendouzi and Ceballos :laughing7:

Not sure what United do here but it’s going to be funny,

Long may they wallow in their misery….cast into the wilderness of mid table scrapping..Europa conference league and the Salford and district metropolitan cup

While I wanted Utd to win last night …this result is no bad thing….it puts another nail in their cross….ok it gives those morons from Tottenham,Edmonton…and other shite areas ….some perceived bragging rights for a day or so….but they are almost as bad off as Utd

Sure they get the CL dosh….but they have a poor squad…..could well lose a couple of their players…I hear Athletico M covet Romero…wouldn’t be surprised to see some bids for Van de Ven… have CL games coming thick and fast..and that’s going to put pressure on their lightweight squad

Honestly they are such a bunch of wankers that they measure everything against us….”we won a European trophy…you won f…all”

When….if they looked with a slightly more objective eye they won a decidedly third rate trophy against the worst Utd team in my lifetime…..beating such giants as Bodo…Bodo ffs….along the way….and they’re all belting out “Are you watching Arsenal”

Good for them…let them have their three minutes of glory …..they will never be us ….they are a crap organization from top to bottom….no class no couth

F em all.

Man U earned £5m for reaching the final, but had a clause in the Mason Mount deal that they owe Chelsea £3.5m if Mount played in a European final. So Chelsea made more money than Man U for Man u’s final appearance

I read something that said Man U put their entire first team squad up for sale. Highly unlikely to be true but it wouldn’t be the worst tactoc. They are bang in trouble. I think it highlights further the job Arsenal have done to get us back from midtable to here on a fraction of man U’s budget when you take wages as well as transfer spend in to account.

I also thought if their entire squad was for sale would there be any single player you’d buy even for a bargain fee? Not sure there is for me.

It gets better. A penalty clause in man u’s deal with adidas means they have to pay adidas back £10m per season for every season they are not in the champions league starting next season

Nor me Rich though I think MA wanted Martinez from Ajax before he went to Utd(may have just been paper talk)

Amorim got his team so obviously wrong. Spurs missing their creative players were always going to play 3 physical players with legs in midfield, and Amorim decided to go with Bruno deep partnered by Casemiro- and leave Mainoo and Ugarte on the bench. Mount instead of Garnacho, Garnacho alongside maybe Amad is the only player who adds some pace, thrust and a bit of fear in the opposition.

I’m sure there are a few who would could be rehabilitated once out of that cess pit, look at Anthony at Betis so far

The level of arrogance from ex Man U players before the final was crazy. They spoke about how Man U would win because they have a history of winning and they turn up in big games.
Man U have been in 6 European finals since 2009 and have lost 5 of them.

When people cite history but barely a single player of the current team were born it’s such a tenuous and lazy bit of analysis. Talk about the tactics the formations, where teams can win the game! The level of pundits we have to put up with at the top end of the game is dire

So what we need to do is get knocked out of the CL, finish outside the top 5 in the league next season so we can enter the Europa League, get drawn against some teams no one has heard of, absolutely tank our league form to finish one place outside the relegation zone and put all our efforts in to winning a trophy every top club is desperate to be nowhere near just so we can be a ‘success’

Some people need a dose of reality. I’m totally calm about spurs winning Europa

They won a trophy and good for them. when we did go into the Europa we failed to win the f%&$#n thing. Spurs did a Bradbury and I for one want to congratulate Ange. He delivered. It’s like winning a lesser trophy like the League Cup but it’s a cup you are in so do your best. Im sure we would have taken the League Cup as a good thing. They might still sack him or he may walk away if there is no ambition at the club. He’s a complex bloke and frankly the media were a disgrace. Arteta copes nothing like the comments made to Ange in press conferences. If you demean this trophy then it’s like saying our Cup Winners cup medals were worthless because we were only playing cup winners not real good teams. Some of the comments by Arsenal fans are cringeworthy. It shows that they got totally under your skin and petty jealousy. People seemed to forget the reason why the CL is now structured was because our club was one of the clubs who tried to force a breakaway league. So the changes ended up with this. Be careful what you wish for.

We're saying the same thing. I'm not demeaning their trophy, it was the best they could have done - from a starting position in a different world from what we're trying to do. What I'm doing is putting some perspective on it for anyone who forgets that this is a terrible spurs team who only actually survived relegation by having 3 awful teams from the championship come up last year.
I actually don't mind Ange, I think he's good for the league. I think he says things he shouldn't and thought he got far too much praise at the start and also that some of the criticism has turned very personal towards the end which is out of order. A standard press conference for Ange became
Reporter "Ange, people say you're a total idiot, a clown with no friends - would you say that's fair?"
Ange has a bit of a rant to defend himself
Reporter: Ange has lost the plot

This is why I say I'm calm about them winning it, I'm not jealous, let them have their moment - we're so close to the biggest prizes of them all if we're willing to properly back the manager in a way we didn't do last year.
Arteta is spot on about 'timing'. We finishes 5th and outside of CL places with 71 and 75 points before. A team will qualify for the CL with less than that this year and thanks to nothing that they have done may benefit from the extra CL place earned by others. Liverpool had a great season but at the perfect moment both the only realistic challengers to them had injury plagued and poor seasons - Liverpool didn't control that.

I deliberately didn’t listen to the radio yesterday, watch any clips of the Europa League final, or read any reports of the match. Why? Because I’m jealous and unhappy that they won a trophy. I feel fine today, thanks for asking. However, I also wouldn’t swap our team and our trajectory for their cup win simply because I think we have a much higher ceiling and we are close to winning a big trophy. I thought Ash’s comment that they won the ‘37th best team in Europe’ trophy was brilliant, because it reminds us that as fantastic as a trophy win is, and just to reiterate, I’d love to win it, you’d be an absolute idiot to say they are a better team.

https://tbrfootball.com/worrying-ethan- ... ty-circle/

Cause for concern?
If there's any truth to this I can see Nwaneri's concern. He's hardly played back end of the season since Saka has been back.
Also he is hardly rotated with Ødegaard if that is his true position.
If we are looking for another creative force then where does that leave Nwaneri?
Then you have the spectre of Max Dowman looming in the distance......
Its great having these talented youngsters but how are we going to eventually fit them all in when they more or less play in the same position.
That's my big worry.

Joao Pedro can leave Brighton this summer, apparently a few prem clubs are looking. Brighton's price tag is £60m! The price some english teams put on their players is crazy - but if someone pays it then fair play to them

Wirtz is getting close to a Liverpool move. Lverkusen want 150m euros! That's a serious signing by Liverpool if they pull it off, he's a very, very good player and one that any club in the world would want.

Frimpong and Kerkhez to fill their full back positions for a combined £70m would be decent business as well.

We're going to have to have a very good window to properly challenge them next season

Forest have banned Gary Neville from their ground for the final Sky game of the season v Chelsea. haha. Forest have the ability to ban anyone from their own private property.

I mean it is fantastically petty but does beg the question as to what Sky would do if every club banned him? I wonder if Forest and in particular their owner might start getting some rough treatment in the media in general now.

I wasn’t actually criticising you. I didn’t express myself well. If it came as criticism : I apologise.

All the talk is of a striker (rightly so), and a winger to follow, and Zubimendi seemingly done. If you add a back up gk then I think the squad when you write it all down is still really vulnerable in central attacking areas.

Zubimendi and Partey (assuming he extends his deal) is really good for the deep lying position but neither really play further forward.
Odeaard, Rice, Merino and an untested Nwaneri in that position - to me that isn't strong enough. One injury away from Merino starting - which isn't to completely have a go at him but the lack of a creative player to carry the burden is big.

I still think we need 6
Striker, Left wing, Def Mid, Att Mid, No.2 GK, left back

Jason Ayto has left the club. Not a surprise really, he was interim sporting director when Edu left but once Berta came in he obviously didn't want to step back in to the old role and likely fancies being the No.1 somewhere else

The favourite striker to join us flips daily between Gyokeres and Sesko. Today the media are saying Sesko.
There are pros and cons to both, I'd be happy with either.

Gyokeres the more 'natural classic 9', a more natural goalscorer but is 27 and untested in a really big league
Sesko has the height - but is also pacey and seems to have an eye for a spectacular goal - he's only 20 so his ceiling could be huge, but he's not as prolific and still likely rough round the edges.

The cost seems to be similar in the £60-70m range. Leipzig didn't make Champions League this season so would apparently be open to more favourable payment structure to get the price they want

Sesko for me. The Portuguese League is very hard to judge. Nunez was a star there. Id also be concerned about a guy who had made no impression at all by the age of 25.

You are correct that Sesko will need development and ideally we need the finished article. He is only 21. Very hard to know how it will go. The switch from two up front in the last 10 years has made good strikers so hard to develop.

Apparently Gyokeres will cost 62 million and sesko over 70.

I’d prefer Gyokeres as a player I like his running style in possession and he gave Big Gab some tough moments in our game. I just have a slight feeling that if you want to win a league title he might be your man.

However I think we will end trying for Sesko more as he ticks many of the buying criteria we have been observing recently, young, unlimited ceiling, resale value against the big fee if it goes wrong. However the down side is he is still learning his trade.

I think Šesko of the two. Havertz is on the pitch now, so with a pre-season he can start the season. He is so tactically important and I’m happy with him as an option up front. He is coming off an injury though so probably can’t and shouldn’t play every minute. That’s an ideal playing situation for Šesko, time to learn the system but also some playing time needed from the off.

RB haven’t made champions league so are going to be slightly less bullish about keeping him. He will want to go and play UCL I think.

It’s all there for us and we need to make it happen imo.

I just think with Gyokeres because of his age and experience he comes in and plays. No excuses, no questions. He’ll probably either hit the ground running or be indifferent. He’ll bring goals no question and experience.

With Sesko he’s actually younger than saka and others. Thats a lot of pressure because next season because we have to win or major pressure arrives. On a football level Gyokeres on a financial level it’s Sesko however it’s a close call.

Good point. Never heard of him until last year and the Portuguese League is sub standard. I read yesterday when Manure played Ipswich Town Amorim was shocked by how good Ipswich were and how hard they fought. Tells you a lot about the Portugese League.

YES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Season Ticket Flexibility

Should you renew for Season 2025/26 you’ll have the choice between the following General Admission season tickets: • 23-match (all Premier League plus four UEFA league phase fixtures) • 19-match (Premier League only)

Does anyone know if you chose the 19 match option do you still get first option at buying your season ticket for the European games

Scrap that I’ve just found out

Supporters with a 19-game season ticket will also have priority access to domestic cup fixtures at Emirates Stadium in their usual seat, but they will need to join the Silver member ballot to secure tickets for all UEFA fixtures, subject to qualification.

Yeah so 23 it is
