In approximately 5 weeks Özil will be free to talk to other clubs and sign a pre contract agreement to sign for them at the end of his deal in 6 months, he doesn’t need Arsenal’s permission to talk to these clubs.... :angel4:
Özil is in a position that not many out of contract players going in to their last 6 months find themselves in. Of course plenty of players have been frozen out, but it is actually impossible for Özil to play for us because he’s not in the league or europa squad list. So if all he wants to do is play football, and he’ll have to make a decision on what he wants to do in 6 months time anyway, why doesn’t he take that decision in January? Same goes for Sokratis, I’m sure Arsenal would release
Both on a free and happily save what would be about 12m in wages in the next 6 months
The other option of course is staying with Arsenal for another 6 months with an impossibility of ever playing a game apart from U23 games.

Rich, I remain to be convinced that Özil is that bothered about playing. I suspect he’s happy enough meeting the terms of his contract by turning up for training and being available to play (or walk onto the pitch) if selected to get his £350k a week until 30/6/21.

Did you watch the Bayern match? I didn’t. But if you did how did that Salzburg player you rate perform?

Amen to that. The only Sporting figure who comes close, not just for sheer ability but for being so iconic and vivid, is Ali. Diego was a god.

Senna and Diego for me stand above all other sportspersons.

Golly, I'd forgotten Senna. He certainly belongs in that company. But in the pantheon, Maradona is the king. The likes of Ronaldo and Messi might rival him as footballers, but in terms of passion, beauty, and drama, they don't come close.

So, by default, its Maradonna. Well deserved though. Messi and/or Ronaldo may eventually become as iconic. Only time will tell. The latter two will have the advantage of a truly global media.

For all sports, only Ali and Jordan are perhaps as or more iconic globally perhaps. Kobe may have a shout in time. And by globally iconic, if you went into a small village pretty much anywhere in the world, they would know the name.

I live in south Hertfordshire, a few miles north of the boundary with the London Borough of Barnet so not exactly a small village anywhere in the world.

My own lack of knowledge will be down to my lack of interest but I’d never heard of Kobe before I read the last post. Who the hell is he? I have at least heard of a sportsman called Jordan though I’m less sure of his first name. I think it’s Michael but I’m not at all sure. What I don’t know is his sport. Obviously one of the big US sports so either American Football, Basketball, Baseball or Ice Hockey. If I was answering a quiz question on naming Jordan’s sport it would be a one in four guess.

But I do know Ali was a boxer. I even know his first name was Mohammed and that before adopting that name he started off as Cassius Clay.

Don't they also go in, in quite a big way, for a form of motor-racing where they go round an oval and crash a great deal, as well as tennis and 'track and field'? Bit risky to rule those out?
I think we can safely rule out ping pong, cricket and curling.

I quite liked tennis in the days of McEnroe and Connors plus females like Billie Jean King and Chris Evert, but I’ve heard of Federa and a few others from the modern game. Same with Formula 1 motor racing. If Jordan had been a tennis player or Grand Prix driver there’s a chance I would know it. So I guessed he was from one of the sports I mentioned. I couldn’t name a single player from any of them. As I said if I was asked in a quiz the sport Jordan was from, it would be one of those four.

As well as Federa and Andy Murray who I didn’t mention, there’s also someone with a name that sounds like he’s from one of the countries that used to form Yugoslavia, Serbia and Croatia being two that springs to mind. Don’t know how it’s spelt but it sounds something like Jokovic although I’m sure it begins with a D.

As you’ve probably realised by now, since McEnroe stopped played I take little interest in tennis.

EDIT: See what you mean now. Seems his name is spelt Federer.

I'd sadly agree with you on Özil.
I didn't watch the Bayern match, I read the reports which said Bayern were a bit fortunate to win 3-1 and Neuer kept them in it at times as well as Salzburg missing chances.....Including Szobalszai who blazed over the bar when clean through on Neuer - not good timing when I've been giving him so much praise recently!

Beat Molde tonight and it is almost certain we top the group even if Vienna win their game.
We'd be 6 points clear with 2 games to play. Modle couldn't catch us due to the better head to head. Vienna could in theory catch us if we lost our 2 games and they won theirs and bettered our 2-1 victory at their place. Unlikely. Lets get the group done and dusted tonight and we can play the kids in the final games during which time the prem games come thick and fast.

I’m curious. If, as expected, 2,000 Tottenham fans are let in to the NLD what will Sky do with regard to fan noise? Will they still add fake noise for the ‘match experience’ or will that tiny number be sufficient?

I’m distinctly unimpressed with fake fan noise.

Possibly a 4-4-2 tonight
Runarsson, Cédric, Luiz, Mustafi, AMN, Xhaka, Willock, Pépé, Nelson, Lacazette, Nketiah

Smith-Rowe, Balogun on the bench, joined by Cottrell and Azeez for the first time with the first team. Win tonight and all 4 of those could start the next 2 Europa league games

Tiger Woods. He was an absolute phenomenon and it wouldn't surprise anyone if he won the Masters again. An ill-mannered individual but an absolute colossus of his sport. A global superstar.

Just seen the video of Willock’s M25 car crash the day before the Leeds game.

Lucky/silly boy. Let’s hope that he’s better at football than he is at driving.

We are almost looking very good here. Almost.

Molde missed a sitter though from a brilliantly worked move. They’re no mugs on their own ‘turf’.

Good game, this.

Ah good. A replay of the appeal incident. Not even close to being a penalty, not even with the absent VAR.

Their gk just carried the ball beyond his area! Check it.

Edit:
Maybe not. Kicked it well beyond the line but hadn’t handled it.

LTG,
For the Vienna match tickets are first come first serve. Up to 2K allowed at Ems.

It will be some time before I’m persuaded to use public transport into and within London. Not worth the risk and it would just stress me too much.

And Pépé, who has been getting closer and closer has calibrated it just fine. 1-0 will do nicely.

Hopefully good for his confidence.

Whoosh. Lovely goal. Pleased for Nelson. He’s been as good as Pépé. Great cross too.

I nearly said it earlier. Nketiah is not any sort of threat. Easy to see why Leeds used him sparingly.

There’s been a lot of good calling by Rob Holding instructing the keeper as to exactly what to do.

Edit: Nice effort by Lacazette
