Xhaka toed the ball first on that foul, and then clear holding on Saka. Booo, need to get out and relieve this pressure and if decisions start going against us we're going to find that increasingly difficult. we need to stamp some authority back on the game. They're bypassing the midfield and finding Jota et al pretty well.

Brilliant hold up play from Aubameyang to relieve the pressure, draw the foul and the yellow card

Amn was clearly fouled, not given he then wins the ball and is booked. It was an aggressive tackle but Michael Oliver is turning the tide here

Great energy and pressing to force that mistake. Exactly the attitude we need

Yeah I agree you can be strong but Traore just barged into him with no attempt to play the ball. Annoying.

What a first touch from Lacazette there! Really good news for us if he can start to contribute again. Ooooh, nearly three!! 3 points anyway, what a turnaround from the club.

Wolves have been kings of the legal barge this game. Right on the edge and never penalised

Great result.

Well done boys - I don’t think anyone had a bad game.

Credit to Mustafi for the brilliant clearing header that set up the second. He and Luiz played very well.

So did Xhaka and Ceballos. For once we looked solid through the middle.

Really really good. I’ve seen us play with verve and swagger and beat some poor teams 4/5-0 in the last 2-3 years. But that performance is something we just haven’t seen from us.
2-0 and it could have been more. I can’t remember Martinez making a save.
The discipline and positioning of the whole team was brilliant. The work rate and closing down also went 90 minutes.
I loved how even in the last 15 minutes when you expect an avalanche of pressure it was us with the press, us forcing the mistakes and creating chances.
It was the most mature performance I’ve seen from an Arsenal team for years. Wolves are a damn good settled team and are chasing champions league on merit. That is a fantastic away victory

Couldn’t agree more. The set up suits them all. Masks the weaknesses. Mustafi was absolutely huge in the air tonight, the height and distance he was getting on his clearing headers were brilliant.

Loved the fight in the team tonight

A few unsung players with big performances.
AMN has such fight in him and pocketed Traore.
Martinez excellent again, loved his calm claiming of crosses.
Mustafi very very good again

We’re still in a huge battle just for Europa League places so I can’t go overboard but we kept a very good wolves team totally quiet today

Any outside chance of champions league (including 5th place) are very very slim. Man U are steamrollering teams, have an easy run in and are 5 points ahead.
Chelsea might be stuttering but I can see them beating watford and Norwich at home which would put them 11 points in front and we only have 5 to play.
Leicester are too far ahead. There’s your top 5.

The outcome of City’s appeal on their European ban could be very interesting if it is Man U that finish 5th!

I think Europa League will go down to 8th if City’s ban is upheld. I’d be happy to snatch one of those places right now. Still another 3 really tough games coming up

What a great result.

It wasn't pretty but we got the job done.

I think we are too far adrift for top four now with a really tough run-in. We would have to more or less win every game and I can't see us doing that.

Shame we lost to Brighton, a win there might just have given us a fighting chance.

I think what really pleased me about today's performance was it does look as if the players are buying into Arteta's philosophy which is based on non negotiables and a more meritocratic approach to team selection. I think Wolves are better than Arsenal at the moment but we battled and played with an intelligence we haven't seen enough of in recent times.

3-4-3 is the best formation to get the best out of this squad? We are still going to have Luiz next season and most probably he'd still get a lot of games - seems like three at the back favours him. I had just taken a look at this season's league stats - he has made the most starts among our defenders.
Another interesting stat is that only 4 players have made 25 or more starts out of 33 games so far. I guess that partly explains why we have struggled this season - we do not have a settled first 11. Liverpool have 8 players with 25 or more starts in the league so far.

It was a quality win. Wolves may not be the Wolves of the late 50s but they are a very good team, disciplined and well managed. The commentator said they have only given up one goal in the first have in 1 of their last 16 matches prior to us.

That said, I'm not going to go all :5encouragement: just yet. We have had many of these types of weeks. A few games where looked like we turned the corner and we turned the corner into an oncoming truck.

I think Arteta is the right manager. I was wrong about him. Its obvious why Pep valued him so much. However, this current project is going to take months. And I'll wait to see what moves the club make in the transfer market.

Hard not to think what we might have salvaged from this season if the board had been more decisive in sacking emery and appointing arteta.

We went on a run of 1 win 10 games through the final emery games and those 4 where Ljungberg had to run the team with Per and the kit man!

That VAR decision v palace at home still rankles as it cost us 2 points and was one of the few they have admitted they got wrong.

Part of me wants City to win their appeal on the euro ban to stop Man U finishing 5th and getting champions league.
I want city banned for obviously breaking FFP but with Man U suddenly playing well again I’ve been reminded how obnoxious their fans can be. With their resources Man U should be challenging the title every year, their back 4 cost them £200m. Midfield of Fred/pogba/fernandes is another £200m

I'd love to have Martial. It won't ever happen but if Aubameyang goes, I'd love to have him in our squad. I've always rated him. Mourinho did a number on his confidence. He can either squeeze out the best out of a player (Drogba) or leave him without a bit of confidence (Mata).

I honestly did not expect that yesterday.
Wolves are above us for a reason and they tore us apart last season 3 0 up at half time.
I thought we would lose , at best a draw but boy did the boys prove me wrong.
Great TEAM performance and credit to arteta.
I love everything about this guy and we have to stick by him even when we lose a few.
It was such a mature disciplined performance which is more pleasing than a big thrashing against a weaker opponent.
CL is beyond us but we should be nailing one of those top 8 Europa league spots.
Martinez is looking the business and Leno must be watching on worried. He just has a calm assurance about him and commands with that massive frame of his.
Wonderful 3 points and lets carry it on against Leicester.
So happy we tied up Saka. What a great prospect and just a lovely humble kid he is.
Also great to tie up Martinelli as well.
If rumours are true about Aubameyang and 250 000 he is after then get it done.
I like how AMN has played himself back into favour and is saying the right things.
Guendouzi please take note.
Would hate to lose him as there is a player in there but doesn't look good for him at the moment.

Guendouzi seems like he's having to learn the position on his own. I'm thinking he's not getting the proper coaching. Some players are a natural. Paddy had natural instincts. Some players had to learn the position. I think Guendouzi could blossom elsewhere if he got proper guidance. To some extent he should know the position well enough to be farther along. So, part of his problem may be his attitude.

Bellerin and I think one other Arsenal player in the past, Walcott, I'm thinking ran a faster sprint time for Henry but I never considered either faster than Henry at his best. Walcott comes very close but can't see Bellerin faster. Maybe they both are but it didn't seem like it after seeing Henry.

I prefer Martinez to Leno. Martinez moves the ball faster.

Martinez has been very good since he stepped in but Leno along with Aubamayang has been our player of the season. Remember those early games under Emery where he saved us time and time again. Some of those scrappy wins we got early in the season were purely down to Leno.
I'm happy to have two great GK's but Leno is still No.1 for me

A hurdle that has not been discussed much is that we may end up higher than Tottenham for the first time in a while. Are we going to have a St. Totteringham's day this season? I am guessing not many if anyone has given it much thought.

I agree Rich. I think it’s way too early to start talking of Martinez replacing Leno who, as you imply, is a strong candidate for our player of the year. Martinez has done very well since coming in. But has he made any saves that you wouldn’t expect a good keeper to keep out? If he has, I’ve forgotten them. Whereas Leno has pulled off some sensational saves, and is still the number one for me. Assuming, of course, that he makes a full recovery from his injury.

Southampton 1-0 Man City highlights: Che Adams scores spectacular long-range winner https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/53300112

Southampton’s goal against City was a beauty, I love that someone has punished Ederson for his high position, I also love the closed down goals we’ve scored. You don’t just let your GK wander outfield and stroke the ball about without some risks and I’m glad the knobs who think they reinvented football have got the tiniest bit of caution now as midfielders will see the potshot over the advanced Ederson as a viable tactic. Defenders need to defend first and foremost, something City found to their cost with John Stones (who I’m not sure how to feel about that we’ve been linked with him) and GKs thinking they’re an extra outfield player strikes me as a fairly arrogant starting point. One for the little guy over Edersons foolish halfway up the pitch head. And the delicious irony of the opposite gk playing an old fashioned blinder and winning man in the match: mwah! *italian chefs kiss*

Bellísimo

So Jose takes notice of what our fans say. Ha ha ha. Needs to get some help about his insecurity before they sack him. A manager at last chance saloon
