Tierney is really good at first time crosses. Very accurate and it opens things up at pace. Super to watch.

Thing is he knows when to hit a cross in it’s not just the delivery. He ensures it’s always when the defence hasnt had the chance to set itself if you know what I mean

Crazy decision to bring on Aubameyang. If he picks up an injury, Emery should be put up against a wall and shot.

Ten minutes gives Reiss (who has looked much better tonight ) a break and Aubameyang a quick run out

What are the odds. Ten minutes

If it was half an hour I’d understand the concern but it’s being played at snails pace

Why risk him is my thinking. Spose he isn't made of glass is he, as you were.

Özil could certainly learn a lot from Martinelli about work rate and pressing. He is a livewire

If he’s not learnt that at 30 years I’d suggest there’s not going to be a lightbulb moment for Mesut :laughing7:

I'd suggest he'll get quite the stretch of the legs making up for our defending in the premership with his goals all season long...

Loving Martinelli tonight. Even looked really dangerous from the wide left position. He says he models his game on his idol Ronaldo. Plenty of similarities in style.
Nelson, Tierney, Ceballos and Willock all very good as well. And more games in the legs for Bellerin and holding

Standard were very poor but what an enjoyable game to watch.

Martinelli scored two absolute crackers. I can't remember the last time I saw a header as good as that from an Arsenal player (perhaps the one he scored against Forest :laughing7: ). If he meant to direct it as he did (and not just get his head on it) it was a genuine worldclass finish. The second was pretty darn good as well. The dink across goal to set-up Ceballo's goal was also delightful.

Willock looks a player every time I see him. That ability to travel with the ball (as Hartson put it) is fantastic and his box-to-box energy can really add something to our midfield.

Tierney's crossing is what we have been missing for years from a left back.

Excellent all round run-out.

His goals were great but off the ball he was sensational with his movement and running, he was always looking to get himself into a position to receive the ball in a dangerous area.

How much money will Saka, him and Nelson save us ?

Really surprised Emery says he doesn't see him as a CF because everything about him.........his pace, movement, bravery and finishing....... suggests that is exactly what he should be.

But did you see him on the left? He was only out there for 10 minutes but caused equal amounts of havoc with his pace and touch and almost had 2 assists.

Great win & a real optimism about some of these young players.

I just wish our teams would try & put some of these teams to the sword.

Indeed I did. I'm not saying he couldn't play in wide positions, he showed tonight he can. However, tonight with his pace, movement, instinctive positioning and finishing he looked like a natural striker.

It’s styles isn’t it. His style is that of a wing forward, they highlighted that fact that he wasn’t in front of the goal for his first, only to say that he wasn’t a goal obsessed (in a bad way) penalty box merchant. He has the style of a wing forward in his play. He could develop any way he wants, really exciting. But someone like Diego Costa with none of his pace but lots of power hold up play, completely different but he’s only a striker and couldn’t play out wide. Martinelli isn’t that, he doesn’t have that, I think that’s what’s being alluded to.

Ronaldo 18-24 wasn’t a central striker but became that later. He might have that kind of development.

I agree the way he runs and is constantly on the move typically lends itself to a striker.

Could be a bit of a Reyes and utilised in 2 roles. Regardless he looks a serious talent

As promised I spoke to someone closer to this one than me, and the answer was that Martinelli has been unbelievable in training and has no respect for reputations; he is very physical and punishes any slackness from others. Emery likes this and sees value for the team in him training with the senior group, rather than playing him in the 23’s.

Another Anelka?

I thought Martinelli was a real live wire tonight. That header was really special and he should be on the bench for Sunday. Tierney was great as well, exactly the sort of player we have been crying out for ages. He should be straight in the first team. Holding had an easy game but he looked so assured. He should be challenging for a first team spot. I thought Willock looked very classy. Nelson had a decent game and put in a very respectable effort. Ceballos looked very good too but he does seem to hog the ball a bit. Bellerin looked rusty but its great that he's back and playing again. I also didn't think it was worth the risk putting Aubameyang on.
The only down side was the woman a few rows behind me who kept SCREAMING during the second half and it was really irritating. (and no she wasn't being attacked or anything....)

No the win was secured although at Arsenal a 4 goal lead is not always enough. It seems we score 2 or even 3 and then take our foot off. Did BayerN do it the other day, or City when they play. No doubt you thought 2-0 at Watford was enough. Or maybe when we were 4-0 up at Newcastle years ago that was enough. Take the foot off the throat and the momentum can easily shift.

Obviously you know something about these drugs.

Aubameyang, Lacazette, Martinelli, Pépé, the rest of the youth, the attack is looking good. Full back positions are solid. Tierney has lived up to expectations. Midfield could use some reshuffling and balancing but is decent enough to get the job done. We have 2 good keepers. Central defense is the weak spot. That's an open secret. I am hoping we start spending there. I like Holding. Always have.

Would be happy if next year Bellerin was captain with Guendouzi to fill in for the games when he did not play. Both get it as to what Arsenal should mean.

Really great showing again from the second string eleven. I think a big difference between this side and our starting eleven is how they're playing without any pressure, they can just go out and play.

Martinelli motm obviously, he looks like this years Guendozi in the way he comes from absolutely nowhere and plays without any fear. He just looks like he belongs on this level. Thought Nelson did better as well, lots of things still doesn't come off for him but he looked more direct and full of confidence. Willock very good again, Tierney should have the left back spot nailed down as soon as he's completely match fit. Holding needs to go straight back into central defense as well, Sokratis and Luiz just doesn't work well as a pair.

Lots to be positive about. We could actually be looking at a situation where 3 or maybe 4 players from the same youth crop becomes regular players for us. Thet's extremely rare these days.
