Good luck Bernard.

Bring us back the cup and I might just be ready to admit that Mertesacker was a half decent player.

On that topic, Mertesacker's organisational skills were very underestimated, apparently he organised the player's Christmas parties and they were great. :laughing7:

I am in awe of Bernard’s efforts to get to the final. Dedication above and beyond.

If only our owner cared half as much.

All the very best to you Bernard.

I wonder if Stan will go, or Josh? Apparently Abramovich is.

Thanks to you and socates.

Wow. Amazing effort, Bernard. Us Aussies have to get up at 4am or so for the match, but at least we'll be watching from home, from the comfort of electric blankets and silken sheets, with cocoa at hand and a soothing slice of Vegemite on toast to see us through the pre-dawn, so you've totally put us to shame...

Apparently a devoted Chelsea fan is traveling 33 hours from Melbourne via Dubai then to Baku for the EL final. Maybe some OZ Arsenal fans have done same.

Hey Bernard - are you in Baku yet or what are your travel plans? Any accomodation?

I'm still in the UK. I've booked a cab for 3.30 am tomorrow morning to take me to Stansted Airport. Should get me there around 4.15 am to 4.30 am.

I looked at the first train of the day to Stansted Airport but that only gets to Stansted Airport station at 5.39 am, just 21 minutes before the check-in desk closes (it's open from 3.00 am to 6.00 am, as the plane departs at 7.00 am).

Even if the train leaves and gets there on time, I have to find and get from the station to the check-in desk. Just too tight. Also, the way trains run late or even get cancelled, I just didn't see going by train as a realistic option.

No accomodation as the Thomas Cook charter flights arranged with the club gets to the airport in Baku 1.00 pm English time (4.00 pm local time). The return flight leaves Thursday at 7.00 am local time and 4.00 am English time.

The match kicks off 11.00 pm local time (8.00 pm English time). The coaches taking you from the stadium to the airport leave shortly after the game, so booking a hotel room somewhere wasn't really on.

I'm taking my phone fully charged but turned off as using it expires the battery. Hence I have no intention of using it unless there's some sort of emergency, which hopefully there won't be. So no posts from me until I'm back.

Nice. Guessing any extra time has been factored in if coaches leaving awhile after the match. You could bring a portable phone charger Bern.

Yeah they will factor in extra time and penalties Zed. Must admit, I don't have a portable phone charger.

By the way B I hear there is a street near the stadium in Baku called Bryantwood Roadski - might be worth a visit? Enjoy!

Seems some fans are protesting about Mkhitaryan by wearing his shirt and are getting stopped by pollice.

Not particular excited about the game. I'm expecting the worst. Bracing myself for disappointment this week. Could be my worst week as a fan since April of 2004. We could see ourselves out of the CL and Tottenham lift the CL. Perish the thought but it could happen.

2-1 to us and Liverpool to flog Spurs with a 5-0 scoreline would be okay for me.

Čech to play according to a few reports. I usually support us keeping the player who was given the cup duties if we make a final. But not in this case where future employment with the opposition is on the table.

Jesus wept .... "silken sheets " ...what a poofter ... what was your father's name ..... Hugh Hefner ...?

Nice little 7 am watch for the civilised people Downunder .

I had a dream last night [ lying on cotton sheets or were they polyester ] that we got a penalty ...and we missed it .

That sort of take on things ; shows you are too used to dealing with slippery underhand Aussies .

I'd say future employment would be the last thing on Čech's mind ...... he'll be out there to do the best for Arsenal .
His allegiances will only change once he takes up his new position .

It's like saying Giroud will spurn the opportunity to score against us because of his former affiliations .

Your problem is that you trust people too much.

Dreaming about missed penalties. Old age catches us all. No busty wenches involved. Sad really.

Cup Final day. While you wander out in your onesie at 6.45 am, at my house up at 4.45am - cup of Oolong tea. Expect the outside temp to be about 19 degrees so none of this hot chocolate nonsense. Some toast and vegemite plus cereal at half time by which time we will be 2-0 up.

Hopefully a good omen.

They probably have to play both keepers in the first 11 because neither will accept be reserve.

Sarri said later he wanted to practice set pieces in the last 15 minutes but the media were allowed to stay and he couldn't do the practice.

Had a look at BT Sport website, and it seems to be UK only.

Still unable to find firm confirmation that SBS are showing it live down here, other than a vague reference on their Facebook page. The World Game site just shows KO time and the teams. Fingers crossed, not keen to get up at 4:00 am on the strength of a rumour.

I'll get up anyway and trawl about for a link if its not, beats going to bed and having nightmares about a Giroud hat trick!

What's the Optus stream quality like Gaz, been thinking of switching from Telstra to get the PL?

Okay at times but can get a bit sketchy. But I live in an area which has pretty poor 4G so don't judge on me. Terrible that to see EPL I have to go with only one provider and looking at a phone sized coverage is pretty terrible.

One of the Arsenal flights also departed two hours late, hope Bernard wasn't affected. Shambles, how can you forget to fuel aircraft? :26surprise:

Sounds like Chavs have flown from Luton while we - Bern - used Stansted. Makes sense. Both airports are about 30 miles north of London.

Regardless of the numbers travelling, Thomas Cook must be laughing. How many passengers does a charter plane carry?? 350 maybe? It won't be 'silver service' on board. No hold baggage either. Few coaches at the other end and that's it. That's close to £350,000 per plane in a day. Wonder how much of that they have to dob to UEFA for the gig?

European final, first one since when? 2006? Whatever, first time, not nearly as interested. If they score first, I'm turning off the tv. Yeah, I know...I know.

If we do lose, the only thing can soften it a wee bit is if Sperz lose big. Not that I'm happy with Liverpool with another European cup.

Čech plays, as does Özil. Sadly, Mustafi doesn’t.

Kante starts and so does Giroud.

Chavs are odds-on. Not sure about that. We should’ve won at theirs and we stuffed em at ours. If we hadn’t gone missing in the last six games, we should’ve finished above em.

Quietly confident.

Özil’s role is to put in an early reducer on Hazard.

Hazard is sadly carried off, more out of theatre than real injury, but Özil is sent off.

Happy days.
