Yes, that sad run of results has raised some doubts in my previously open mind. At the start of the season I had no expectation other than a Europa placing, but having been offered fourth so often by our rivals, and then to have whimpered the opportunity away so weakly, it raises questions.

If you're refusing to acknowledge him while including Koscielny, I won't. My answer is Mertesacker.

Its nailed on.

Spurs were fantastic that second half, Llorente just killed them. All Moura's goals were clinically taken. Unfortunately they are a top side with a top manager. Saw them play some great football in the group stage and somehow not get the result.

Liverpool though are on another level. Absolutely outstanding team. One of the best in a premier season ever.

But as Bernard says anything can happen in a final.

Should be a belter.

Moura's goals were all splendidly well taken. Amazing for him to stand up like that.

Liverpool would be my choice to face them in the final. But I have a horrible feeling about this and tonights game.

Alright then. Mert and Kos accepted when did we last produce or buy a top quality defender.

Europa cup semi final and I'm not excited. In fact, not sure I will even watch. Depressing week.

Wenger got the best out of him. Sanchez wanted a bigger contract (understandable) and got one from MU. He has been a shadow of the player he was. I'm glad he's no longer with us.

I'm trying to think if there's been one between Sol Campbell and the two you mention. Gallas was pretty good.

Sagna was pretty good when played as a CB. Monreal not too bad either.

Kolo was outstanding and was a snip at 250k. I know Cygan was a bit below absolute top quality, but he rarely let us down, and at £2m proved a more than decent acquisition.

Most of us loved him and wanted him to stay. Except for Rich or Bubblechris or maybe someone else. Was he hated like RvP or Fabregas? I can't remember but I don't think so. Anyway, both us and MU got a bad deal with Mkhitaryan and Sanchez.

Vermaelen was also very good for a while.

I had totally forgotten about him. His injuries I suppose made me forget him. But yes he was good until his injuries got the best of him.

I always thought Sagna too short to be a cb. But he was a decent fb. Montreal is definitely a good solid professional. But I was looking for the type of player you build a team around. Someone who can organise and be relied on. And apart from Kos and Mert (and TV4) is there anyone I have missed? Or are we going back as far as Sol, Toure and TA6. I am ignoring Gallas because he was unreliable and not a defensive leader.

Remember Pascal on the left wing. Was it against Bolton or Blackburn in a cup match?

Urgh I hate those sort of subs, particularly if you aren’t exactly getting over run. See it so often. Both teams fairly even, bring off a striker for a defender and that invited the pressure that you need the extra defender for.
I get putting the extra defender on if you are getting battered, but when you’re not why change

I’d have loved Sanchez to stay, but once it was clear he wasn’t going to sign a new deal, or we couldn’t afford his new deal then we had to find a way to sell him to the highest bidder

Up against it now. Done by a sharp counter attack.

Shocking start

There are no ball carriers in this team as Özil wants to lay it off and mix that in with 2x 33 year old centre backs and one youthful 30 year old.

This is on Lacazette and Aubameyang to pull us out of this

Maitland Niles being badly exposed. Needs help.

Valencia looking dangerous every time they go forward, they're killing us down our right hand side. Maitland-Niles needs more support.

Robbie Savage quite right, no cover for Miles who ambled back.

Counter attack goal conceded yet again.
Sometimes when we play 5 at the back there is not enough control in central midfield. With the pace of this game it feels like one of those times

Formation is like a 5-2-3, midfield over run, front 3 offer virtually nothing defensively, and a back 5 are getting beaten in wide positions!

No midfield to speak off.

Far too easy for Valencia to progress up the field.
