Anyway, greatly enjoying the videos on Arsenal that are sprouting on my Facebook pages.

We had some players.

Just watched Reyes (r.i.p.) getting assaulted by Man Utd., and one of the most disgraceful and cowardly refereeing performances I've ever seen.

Ramsey's goal v Galatasaray (which AG posted a link to earlier)

Pires - oh I wish we could find another duck footed Superbob.

And wasn't Wiltooooooord fantastic? But Freddy was better, especially with his red hair.

I think your views on this topic are pretty well known Bernard.

And I bow to your greater expertise on hairstyles.

Yeah they are worried about probably having to repay TV money but to believe that in 3 months it will be all gone away is delusional. Even if some countries do have a significant drop by July (and that is debatable) others will not. Can you see Italy and Spain recommencing by then? Do they intend to finish the CL and Europa?

This could be the catalyst for the breakaway Champion leagues. They need to be careful.

I know I am naturally a pessimist, but a number of suggestions being made are strange. How could it be fair to play all games in the midlands, with or without crowds. If Aston Villa stayed up you would never know if they were advantaged and others disadvantaged by such a decision. The league is about playing home and away. Not some other BS.

I read about the TV money yesterday, which partly explains why the leagues won’t make any immediate decisions, but surely they’d only be liable to repay a proportion of the money? The broadcasters have aired live games which have presumably fulfilled advertising commitments. Guarantee one thing, Sky won’t be reimbursing the great unwashed who have subscribed.

Watch the news, listen to the radio and don't be such an ass.

What the population of Sweden versus UK ?

What 10 million compared to 70 ? Surely they are in a better position to deal with it when only dealing with that number of heads. If this thing rips through the Uk and even more so US you could have a major human tragedy occurring.

Also are you just thick AS MINCE ! :laughing7:

Did you not read the post from Haz who lives there saying preventative measures are saving lives. Speak to him about it.

Hidden in his word salad Chris does touch on the most alarming possibility: that the half-measures that most countries are implementing might not flatten the curve very much. The horse has pretty much bolted and we simply don't have the capability or appetite to do what the Chinese did in Wuhan.

Still, the response to that should invoke the spirit of Churchill rather than Chamberlain ...

So another 684 deaths just announced. Sadly, this is almost certainly a very significant under-reporting of the situation since as I understand things, it only counts those who die in Hospital and who have tested positive. It doesn't include those who die in Elderly Care Homes, in Social Care Homes, in Hospices or in individual homes, almost none of whom will have been tested. I don't think it records those who have tested positive but who actually die of pre-existing health issues. This is all so tragic.

It will be interesting (in a not too hopeful manner) how players contracts will be affected by this new environment. It's new territory. It's a multi billion dollar industry, not just fooball, but Rugby, basketball, etc. and in Canada and America, ice hockey, a winter event, may coincide with seasonal outbreaks if Covid-19, god forbid, becomes seasonal like its influenza cousin.

I am going to have faith in modern medicine. Unlike decades past with polio, small pox, typhoid, etc, we have at our collective disposal globally unprecedented knowledge, means and people from a breadth of areas capable of resolving some if not all answers to the problems this virus have asked of us.

I think the world was vastly underprepared for a pandemic despite the warnings that one was inevitable and possibly imminent.

Failure to heed these warnings has left govts around the world scrambling to play catch-up with a virus over which they have very little control.

I think the UK govt made a huge error initially in not taking the Chinese warnings seriously, to the extent that even back in Feb they were classing the coronavirus as "low risk", and then thinking they could "take it on the chin" and go for a herd immunity strategy. By the time they switched strategy valuable weeks had been lost and they are further behind the curve than they might have been had they locked down earlier.

That said, it's all "ifs and buts" and nobody in the word seems to know for sure what the correct strategy is, they are just going with what they perceive to be best practice and learning as they go along. Sadly, the cost of this learning is measured in lives.

Hi Soc

I think the only strategy any country could adopt was to try and isolate to buy time to prepare and get the right equipment. If you look at the Chinese curve they definitely seem to have got it right and are under more control now

The problem was the government pursued its own populist genocidal strategy because of Cummings and the money lobby ..

I’m more than happy with that. I’m quite prepared to forego the two missed weeks. Not exactly the biggest financial hit that I have taken due to the situation and all remarkably small beer given what else is going on.

That great journalist Hugh McIlvaney referred to sport as a magnificent triviality(he actually paraphrased Phil Bull the founder of the Timeform organization)

I always kinda bought into this thinking...sport is great but in the overall scheme of things it’s trivial. I argued this a bit with my elder brother who disagreed and as one example referenced Jesse Owens’ performance in the 1936 Olympics that transcended sport and stuck it to a dictator

I’ve changed my mind about it being a triviality in recent days.

In this enforced absence I realize how much sport does for me personally. I am lost without my weekly fix and I know a great many of you are too.Long since past playing I now do it vicariously through those 11 players in an Arsenal shirt
Sport is a release valve and I think it’s benefit to society’s well being is incalculable ....a salve on our collective furrowed brows
Anyhow ladies (are there any left on the forum) and gentlemen love from Locked Down Philadelphia. Wherever you are in the world good luck and God bless

Well if they can’t provide a service least they can do is not charge you for it. I’m more interested in what they would do for their subscribers if they did in fact go after the EPL for repayment.... not that I think it will happen.

I’m a fully paid up contributor to Sky’s coffers to the tune of £100+ per month and was looking to sack it off prior to all this kicking off, we finally figured it didn’t represent good value for money.
