Hedgehog week: a very importantly lesson to all. That we must love all creatures, even those that are prickly, feeble or irritating.

You're still cross about "Zionism" aren't you?

You are right. Zionists too should be on our minds as we prepare for hedgehog week. Just because they aren't cuddly doesn't mean there aren't gods creatures!

I would criticise him for his answer to Amy though. She asked if he felt any relief it was entirely his choice to let his barely-concealed irritation at the disloyal fans and their scant regard for the kids in China bubble to the surface.

Watching it again, he actually expanded on it in the end and said he's not resentful, it has nothing to do with the fans, and that he can understand the fans were not happy and he has to accept that. Think some of those headlines make a leetle too much of his comments.

I think that's because he realised he'd let his guard slip.

Although I agree with you the headlines were disproportionate to what he actually SAID but that's the MSM for you. He was ill-advised to start a lecture on "unity" and the "global image" and "values" imho.

My point wasn't really that though simply that Hoy's statement that he managed the press really well and drew the sting from the topic wasn't entirely accurate.

I thought this was worth quoting from Ken Early's article in The Irish Times.

"Its ironic that Wenger should have ended up an insular and outdated figure, because he was the one who opened up the closed worked of English football to the outside influence that has come to define it."

Yes it was. My first ever cup final. In tears at the final whistle, bizarre decision to let nutty take the penalty however we were destined for greater things. This loss didn’t help our perception as a club with our fans in China

But we can console ourselves in the knowledge we were a great club back then despite the tears at a worthless cup final. With big Gus Caesar holding the back 4 together it is hard not to pine for these types of days once again. When we knew how to defend.

Anybody know much about Luis Enrique?

Phillipe Auclair was on TalkSport last night and was adamant Enrique was not the best choice and sniffed a bit at his record.

Just had a look and a 9th placed finish with Celta Vigo in 13/14; 7th with Roma the year before that. Then he gets the Barcelona job and surprisingly wins a few titles with them.

Why was he removed from Barcelona?

It was taken in jest so no need for apology

One of my brothers (Kurty) was involved in a little school ritual in NZ around 1990. 10 classmates crammed in an entrance way, flick out the lights and start throwing punches, kicks, etc. Turn lights back on to see how everyone is. A few casualties and opportunities for vengeance. Made running the gauntlet seem like a may day fair. Oh the good ol' days. :)

Left of his own accord although very close to the time of them being hammered 4-0 by PSG. I think they then did the reverse 6 goal bludgening in the 2nd leg. Attacking philosophy seems to fit Arsenal which may also include a flaky defence. Although it would be bloody hard not to win stuff with a front line of Messi, Suarez and Neymar.

I'd be optimistic that he can improve Arsenal but have no idea on his tactical flexibility which is mandatory in today's game.

Wondering if we could be more innovative than a statue for Wenger who I suspect would still look oddly comedic in bronze.

How about casting one of these bad boys and sticking it outside the entrance?

Think it might really lift the spirits in China and help overcome the bad values, lack of unity, and general ingratitude we have seen in recent years.

I don’t think he speaks English very well. I’m not sure that will sit well for the brexiteers amongst the fan base.

If you had to make a bet who it’s going to be I’d suggest Enrique although a few seemed to be suggesting yesterday Vieira is the bold choice Gazidis was referring to.

The Wenger Years in tunes.

1996-97

A youthful looking Arsene Wenger rocks up at Arsenal a few months after England host Euro 96. The mood was good in England when Wenger arrived as the hosts had performed above expectations - winning the inagural Best Goal-Celebration competition with the "we're pretending to be drunk" routine. As for the football Germany predictably dispensed with England. It was not all doom and gloom though as England departed the tournament proudly undefeated and able to lord it over the Scots for the next 10000 years. Wenger's first intervention as Arsenal manager also comes against German opposition in the UEFA cup where his HT changes fail to produce a victory for the Gunners. Arsenal finish 3rd in the Premier League, missing out on the Champions League on goal difference to Newcastle United.

1997-98

Arsene Wenger begins his first full season as the Arsenal manager and makes two stellar signings which raise the excitement levels at Highbury. To much hilarity, blonde haired French porn star Emmanuel Petit arrives in London and flashes his skirt at an expectant Alan Sugar; before pulling out and hailing a Spurs sponsored cab straight to the marble halls. His name was joined on the dotted line by Dutchman Marc Overmars. A winger of immense speed and skill hoping to put recent injury problems behind him. In what turned out to be a very good year, we are crowned Champions and double winners with Dennis Bergkamp in particular playing football from another planet. That seals a rather dubious link with this Beastie Boys track released in 1998.

1998-99

The season we should have stopped United's treble sees us miss out on the title by a single point. Nelson Vivas' whereabouts since the incident in Leeds remain unknown. Despite verified reports regarding an Old Man of Hoy character, known to forum police to be holding a serious grudge against the Argentinians since 1986, was seen in the Elland Road vicinity on the day of Nelson's disappearance - the police have been unable to connect him to the crime. Legend Ian Wright had retired in the summer. However a new goal scoring hero announced himself with a classic lob over Peter Schmeichel in a 3-0 romp. Yes, Freddie had arrived. Soon everyone would know what his name is, particularly readers of the Steve Gleiber forum. The seeds were sown.

1999-2000

After being tag teamed in his office by the notorious Anelka brothers, Arsene Wenger signs Thierry Henry and Davor Suker to keep spirits high for the upcoming season at Highbury. However, we go on to suffer 9 league defeats and finish 18 points behind in second place. We also lose the UEFA Cup final to Turkish outfit Galatasaray. After a 0-0 bore draw we then hit a series of shoddy penalties to lose the tie 4-1. However, we played this final in our away kit which links us to the emergence of a talented new band and the lead single from the critically acclaimed Parachutes.

A good summation.

Yes

His warped priorities were never more evident than in the autumn of 2009, when he announced: “I have been criticised for not signing Xabi Alonso or Gareth Barry. But if I signed them, I would have killed Alex Song, Abou Diaby and Denilson.”

Could've had CR7 as well, but that deal blew up in his face.
