Man U have a 3rd bid rejected for Mason Mount, £55m, Chelsea counter that they want £65m all in.

What are Man U playing at, they know what Chelsea want, why are they low balling them, just pay what they want and get the deal done! :42laughter:

It’s got holes and weaknesses all over the place still. Both full backs are great - when they’re fit!, virtually zero quality of depth in central midfield and up front it’s a mix of young and untested, past it and unproven in the league.

Still huge surgery required

Yes they need Declan Rice and Caicedo! :laughing7:

You missed off that Jackson guy they signed up front.

If we’re selling Partey I see little point in doing it if we’re not getting a big fee.
Talk of 20m euros is not enough, I’d rather keep him for 2 years and let him leave for free.
He’s on £200k a week so yes we’d save £20m in wages for the final 2 years of his contract but we’d still have to pay the wages of his replacement.

It’s easy to forget how good he was for 3/4 of the season

So the media says we must pay what West Ham want and can’t mess this deal up, but Man U mustn’t pay what Chelsea want and must walk away from the deal having offered a reasonable amount.

It’s easy to be paranoid when the media reports on your team but I don’t understand the polar opposite stances on what is virtually the same situation

Feeling more confident about the Rice deal today.
I think West Ham are desperate for a bidding war, Rice has made it clear he only wants Arsenal. West Ham leak all bids so they can show their fans they held out for top price. They really want City to bid, but no bid yet from City because perhaps they know Rice just wants Arsenal….?

If Arsenal had gone in at top price bid then West Ham just reject and ask for more, the same process plays out but for £20-30m more.

Arsenal need to hold our nerve and put the right bid in and I think we’ll get Rice

If we end up with Rice, Havertz, Timber in the first month of the window it really is an incredible start.

I would dearly love us to push for Caicedo as well, I think he’s great but also to deny him going to Chelsea (and heard Man U are interested) if we got him we could lose Xhaka and Partey

Post subject:  Re: Supporters Forum

I know this might have been discussed some, but what IS the plan for Havertz do you think? I like the idea of him arriving late ala Xhaka, but not so enthused about him in midfield battles. I can see him playing in that area that encompasses that area like a slightly deeper left leaning false 9. Basically a left leaning attacking midfielder with Zinchenko pushing in behind him alongside… whoever is DM.

It’s a genuine question because at 65 odd million he’s going to get significant minutes.

Does anyone think he’ll play false 9/striker?

I would view Rice and Caicedo as an improvement. I love Partey but for the future, his good years are limited.

Warrior, a quick favour mate. Can you hack into Man City’s computers, check the emails for any correspondence with Westham.

Let us know if they have made an offer for Rice. If they haven’t we get the club to make a final offer which is one pound less than our last offer. Advise them it goes down by a pound per minute. I think they might be playing us and if he only wants to come to us then they can start panicking. Pretty sick of the whole thing.

If City have made an offer give one final slightly higher offer than our previous offer and give them 15 minutes to reply.

Post subject:  Re: Supporters Forum

The Timber deal (if it goes through) gives us a lot of flexibility in the back 4 but also allows us to invert a RB in to midfield like we do with Zinchenko from LB, which could mean Tierney has a better place in the team as a left sided defender in a back 3, how he plays for Scotland.

RB - White, Timber, Tomiyasu
LB - Zinchenko, Tierney, Tomiyasu, Kiwior
RCB - Saliba, White, Timber, (Rice?)
LCB - Gabriel, Kiwior, Tierney

There are so many people lining up questioning Rice if he picks Arsenal over City, basically saying he should go to City. These will be the same people who are moaning that the Prem is becoming a 1 club league with City’s dominance.
And I honestly don’t think there would be this same level of ‘he must go to City’ if it was Man U or Liverpool or Chelsea going for him. They’d roll out all sorts of reasons why those clubs would be a good, brave and ambitious move for him.

Crazy to think where we’ve come in the last couple of years. The players we’re linked with and are close to getting wouldn’t have looked twice at us 2 years ago.
Arteta has created a great team but he’s also created a connection from board to management to players to fans, the feel good factor around the club is infectious and players see it and want to be part of it. Careers are short, this is a once in a career opportunity to be involved in something that is going bang right now

Emile Smith Rowe scores again for the Eng U21 side. Good goal as well, give and go and hammered in the bottom corner from 25 yards.

Not sure if he can play that left sided 8 role but he should get more minutes wide left.

I posted earlier about our defensive options and flexibility of Timber signs. You could start to say the same about our front 6

That Timber looks an interesting player. I’ve just watched a 2 minute you tube clip of him strutting his stuff with the “shook one’s” music playing over it and I’m now convinced he’s the best footballing centre half of our generation without question.

Definitely to me looks a player brought in to copy the city Tactic of using centre halves in fullback positions for certain games

I wouldn't be ready to throw the towel in yet on Rice. There was lots of noise about City making a bid but nothing since, might it be some leaks from West Ham to try to drive the bidding war they are desperate for.

City don't always get the player they want, they do tend to also set a price and decide to walk away. Cucurella last year for example. To be fair I've not seen many players turn City down when all bids and wages are equal!

Lets see.

City are looking to commit near 100m euros to Gvardiol, the Croatian CB

Obviously Youtube can make any player look great (I know you know this and the above is dripping in sarcasm) - but Youtube can't disguise certain things. Timber is obviously very quick - something I think is massively important for defenders at top clubs because you're asked to play high and defend 1 v 1. Recovery pace is so important. Timber also looks athletic and powerful.

Might we see more of us playing with 4 CB next season like Pep did this season with City. It really protects against the counter. Timber/Saliba/Gabriel/Kiwior. Timber or Saliba could step in to midfield.

One thing to consider, the partnership works so well with gabriel and Saliba because they compliment each other, Gabriel is the aggressor, Saliba is the reader of the game. Van Dijk is another reader, they play a bit deeper, on the cover and usually get the chance to look quite elegant in their no fuss defending because they read the game so well and have the cover pace. Rio (reader), Vidic (aggressor) another exmaple. It works really well. It is why Vermaelen/Koscielney (both aggressors) didn't work as well as Per/Koscielny.

So my only worry is if Saliba is out do the partnerships work as well - Timber looks more an aggressor type, as is Gabriel. Can White play more of the Saliba role?

Post subject:  Re: Supporters Forum

Its interesting to see what happens at City in the next 2 years. Pep has said he'll leave in 2025, maybe takes another sabbatical or he's hinted at managing a national team. This summer Gundogan has already left, Bayern are chasing Walker and the Saudis are chasing Bernardo. Laporte may be on his way out after losing his place. De Bruyne is 31, Mahrez is 32. There is a decent group is the 'peak' 26-29 range but only really Haaland, Foden and Alvarez in the sub 26 age bracket. Our squad has virtually every player in that sub 26 age bracket bar Partey and Xhaka - both of whom may leave this summer.

If City get injuries or a bit of squad upheaval we can take advantage right now, but in 2 years time our squad (as long as it sticks together) would be at its prime to take advantage.

All something and nothing but Timber rumoured to be the No.12 for us, with Saliba switching to No.2 when he signs the new deal.

You're never going to get everything you want from a transfer window as a fan but if we can come out of this one having tied down Saka, Martinelli and Saliba to long deals and add Havertz, Rice, Timber plus another centre-mid (I desperately want that to be Caicedo) - it must be as close to a 10/10 summer as you can get

Ornstein tweets that City have made a formal offer for Rice tonight. £80m plus £10m in add ons. Our last bid of £75m plus £15m in add ons was rejected.
City’s add ons likely to be viewed as more realistic if they’re linked to winning trophies (understandable) and the instalments likely to be more favourable paying up sooner

Probably just BS but one article said 120 mil bid was made. They can beat any bid we can, so its moot unless the player insists maybe.

Yep, I'm so tired of this pantomime.

Seems to me that City would not have bid if they had not been given some encouragement from the Rice camp.

Maybe time to pull the plug and move onto other cheaper targets which might leave us room for manouvre on an additional player as well.

David Sullivan is quite within his rights to try and create a bidding war but he has to remember that what goes around comes around and he might want players from us someday.

If I were Arsenal I'd go back for Rice with a £100m bid, the best we can do in terms of money up front and achievable add ons. Then wait and see what West Ham do, and if they reject it wait and see what City then do.
If we don't want to go any further then quickly move on and slap a £70m+10m bid in for Caicedo straight away.
For me he's the clear second favourite for the role we need to fill and we can't let him go anywhere else unless we've secured Rice

Chelsea and Manchester City are fighting to sign Arsenal youngster Ethan Nwaneri.

Arsenal have until Friday when Nwaneri schoolboy registration runs out to agree scholarship terms with Nwaneri, but they face competition from Chelsea and City, the two clubs renowned as the highest payers when it comes to academy players.

Arsenal are understood to have made an attractive offer to Nwaneri, who can sign pro terms when he turns 17, with academy manager Per Mertesacker, manager Mikel Arteta and sporting director Edu involved in talks.

They will be due compensation after a tribunal hearing if the player leaves and should receive a higher amount because he has played for the first team.

Arsenal have tied down another talented youngster, Myles Lewis-Skelly, by agreeing scholarship terms with him.

The money these two teams are throwing at young players and their families is crazy - why any young player would consider Chelsea as a good place for their football development right now is bizarre - Nwaneri surely only has to look at Omari Hutchinson for an example of this.

I know they are both highly likely and highly possible to leave respectively but imagine our squad next year with us keeping Xhaka and Partey! We appear to be getting just £13m for Xhaka and rumoured bids of £20m for Partey. Is that £33m worth it, as it seems like that plus a bit more would get you Lavia a raw but talented CM.

Imagine a midfield 3 set of options from
Def mid: Rice, Partey, Jorginho, Elneny, Xhaka, Timber
Left 8: Havertz, Xhaka, Rice, Emile Smith Rowe, Trossard
Right 8: Ødegaard, Vieira, Havertz, Emile Smith Rowe, Trossard

That’s a midfield set as good as anything…. But ultimately the club will see it as too many
