A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is touched or played by a team-mate is only penalised for committing an offside offence if, in the opinion of the referee, they become involved in active play by:

Interfering with play
"playing or touching the ball passed or touched by a team-mate"
Interfering with an opponent
"preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball by clearly obstructing the opponent’s line of vision or
challenging an opponent for the ball or
clearly attempting to play a ball which is close to them when this action impacts on an opponent or
making an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball"
Gaining an advantage by playing the ball or interfering with an opponent when it has
"- rebounded or been deflected off the goalpost, crossbar, match official or an opponent
- been deliberately saved by any opponent"

I think John 1 is wrong it can be a deflection it can be an interception so not offside.

So *%^@*** infuriating.
In total control .
Saka sticks one away and its game over.
We just always sabotage ourselves.
Hate this Burnley team.
Given them a way back in and now it's how Burnley want it. Bloody scrappy.
Have to win this or forget top 6

I think that the laws of the game would always have rendered that onside. It’s always been the case that the ball has to come from a teammate.

We look more like losing this than winning it at the moment.

Bit confused why this is being debated, an attacker can stand wherever he wants on the pitch and not be offside if a defender passes it straight to him

You simply can’t give away a goal like we did in the premiership without it costing you.

If we don’t win that it will be gutting and mean that Xhaka has cost us 5 points againest Burnley. You can’t have such a weak link and expect to be successful

That’s an easy first time pass to chambers

Starting to think I'd take the 1-1 draw at this point. literally walk off the pitch at 1-1 than carry on playing this up and under *%^@ on a cabbage patch. And how the *%^@ is that not a handball?? He stopped Pépé going past him with an outstretched arm!!! Total *%^@.

Based on this season, that should be a stonewall penalty.

Even Peter Walton 'a bit surprised' it wasn't a peno.

That means it was absolutely a pen

Bet you he saw the first one and gave a decision on that not the next one.

We need a VAR check on the VAR check :42laughter:
