Yay! A couple of good seasons and we should be able to sell Pépé for 150m or more. Lille is losing Rafael Leao also it seems. What a pity.

I don’t like the idea of looking at signings as players we can sell for a profit in a few years. If Pépé is worth double in a few years then he will have been absolutely brilliant for us and we should want to keep him. What we should be doing is signing players like Saliba and Pépé where their profile and age means that they retain their value (at least) should we be backed in to a corner and forced to sell

Mkhitaryan, cellabos, Özil, iwobi, Pépé, Aubameyang, Lacazette.
And Martinelli, Nelson, Saka, Nketiah ready to step up as well.
That is a decent forward line.
Plenty of work to do in defence

Ideally we keep all our best players. But I can't help think we are following the Dortmund model. Hope I'm wrong.

Attack is the best form of defence approach? Should make us very entertaining to watch. Hope we win more than we lose.

I don't care how we do it. Hook or crook, go into debt, dodgy loan deals, whatever, as long as we strengthen the defense, and overall, put out an XI that gets the job done.

Been away without phone or internet for over a week. It was like my youth waiting to hear any glimmer of Arsenal news in the print or for a Shoot magazine to arrive with news that was six weeks old by the time it arrived.

Not sure I understand the Spanish guy loan and what is in it for us.

But if and I say if the Pépé purchase goes thru it could be good.

As for Salibi did that go thru as a loan back or is he with us now?

Awaiting some further defensive players or are we forming up like an Ozzie Ardiles team.

If anyone ever gets the chance to visit Lord Howe Island I highly recommend it for hiking, nature and if u are an artist. It is not for people who go to Bali or other drunken tourist destinations.

My whole trouble with this is how often did the Sun write a story pointing out what a low life skum the Stoke fans were that used to carry on with Ramsay. A few people from Arsenal give a bit back and it is really bad apparently. F..k Stoke and there scummy fans.

Tweets from people who aren’t at all public figures just shouldn’t appear in news articles. It’s basically “So and so from nowhere-at-all had this to say: ...” who cares! That isn’t news, that’s someone’s opinion who might be a full time carrot or something. It’s such a load of crap.

Also, it’s all so messy, fans justify saying out of order stuff to other fans, because they said out of order stuff first so they deserve it. And then it escalates into people revelling in someone’s genuine distress and misery. Shawcross at 31 has potentially jeopardised what’s left of his career.

Salibi won’t be able to play for us until the 2020/21 season.

Regarding the Spanish guy on loan, I suppose we can hope he’ll be excellent for us in 2019/20. I initially thought it ironic that the better season he has with us, the less likely we are to sign him permanently while the worse season he has with us probably increases our chances of keeping him.

But then I saw a hopefully inaccurate story that he isn’t interested in joining Arsenal permanently and it was actually him who asked Real not to give us an option to buy. Not sure I believe that because it’s up to him who he joins so can refuse to come to Arsenal whether or not Real give us a buy option. So why risk upsetting people at Arsenal? But anyway, that is a story that’s going round.

I suppose if he really enjoys the club he may change his mind. I suppose in a way it is indicative of how far we have fallen that we are now one of the clubs where players go for loans. Looking at it from another direction perhaps Madrid rate Emery to place such an important player at our club.

Im a little surprised at a few things. Chelsea overtaking Spurs. Liverpool isn't anywhere to be seen. I'd include ANY side with fat Sam as a manager, and if he manages again. That club.

https://www.football.london/arsenal-fc/ ... s-16647028
Chelsea, Spurs and Stoke - Arsenal fans name their most hated rivals and favourite opponents

"In fact, fans of the Gunners picked out Chelsea as a side they had even less time for in 2018! The Blues were top of the hit list for the north Londoners, followed by Tottenham, Manchester United, Manchester City and, inevitably, Stoke City."

What would be your reaction if Allardyce had ever got the Arsenal job? I’ve never really understood your hatred of him. Still, if something so pointless is all it takes to make your life feel more worthwhile, then go for it.

If the fee is correct, is Pépé worth 72 mil? It's not like we don't have decent players in that position. My worry isn't so much the fee, but that not having money for defense and positions that are desperately needed to be addressed.

Hi AG.

He's a pacy, skilful dribbler who it seems has an eye for goal, something we are sorely missing.

I am as surprised as anyone at the fee, although there are suggestions it is not as much as is being suggested. I have no idea if he will prove worth it. The French league is very different to the PL. Will he be a Hazard or a Gervinho?

There are also some rumours around that this deal is far from done and a couple of big teams could be about to attempt to hi-jack the deal.

I'm guessing that reported fee is the total if all the add ons and incentives come to fruition. I remember when Reyes was reported as 17 million but it was really if incentives are met, etc,

His youtube highlights is exciting. But then again, its youtube highlights.

It's actually quite scary just how bad our defence is. None of our back four today are elite level defenders.

Today was just a real wake-up call. Far too easy for Lyon to score both goals.

I thought we lost control of the game as soon as Guendouzi went off.

It is all well and good having an elite strike force but if your defence is shite you will inevitably come unstuck against good sides.

It is no coincidence that Liverpool finally found their mojo after signing Allison, VVD and Robertson and the emergence of Trent-Alexander. Before that they had been an attacking force but were always conceding soft goals, like us.

Monreal is past it, AMN is not a RB and Chambers is not a top four level CB. Let's hope we sign Tierney and a CB, even if its on loan.

We’re at least 3 defenders away from being a decent team.

Can’t understand why no CB have been signed for this season.

As I’ve asked after seeing those YouTube compilations, how good a defender is Tierney? They were all very heavily focussed on him going forward. After watching them, the ones I saw gave no indication of him as a defender. Defensively, for all I know from YouTube he could be another Maldini or Lahm. But he may also be another Morrow.

One positive from Emery’s post match press conference is he spoke about wanting a winger and a centre back.

Wouldn't get my hopes up, from the wording I think he may have meant that we wanted a centre back, central midfielder and winger going into the summer. We've signed Saliba and Ceballos, and I would be surprised if more players than Tierney and Pépé arrived at this point.

It's a good point Bernard and one I do not know the answer too. I imagine as a LB for Celtic you spend most of your time attacking and very little defending, except perhaps in European games. A bit like being a LB for Barcelona.

Sadly Monreal offers little going forward and his legs have gone defensively so I can only hope that Tierney has been properly scouted and fits the bill as a LB who can actually defend as well as attack.

A chance of a loan signing perhaps but I think you are right, after spending £100m on Pépé and Tierney it would be difficult to spend much more without some significant sales.
