Why would you prefer them over City?, that is crazy talk, I never enjoy watching them win and it seems to happen all too often over the last few years, Spuds winning the title while moving into a 'better' stadium, the stuff of nightmares.

Really not enjoying football these days, it just seems like Spuds are better than us and we're stagnating as a Europa league club, perhaps things will get better once Emery has 'his' players but I lack faith in the owner backing him financially, especially if we fail to get back in the CL.

Despite Wenger's exit we still feel like a stale club.

At the moment there are 3 things that can bring us and spurs back to the same level (or is goback above them) listed below in the order of severity
Poch leaves for Madrid or Man U
Poch forced to not just sell players for the new stadium but sell and make a profit like wenger had to
Emery and Sven making some incredible transfer moves

What I’m saying is I think them dropping to our level is more likely to happen sooner than us rising to their level. In any other season they’d be well out in front for the title

Rumours have it Napoli might take up the option on Ospina. If Čech doesn't fancy being Leno's deputy, we would need a new GK next season.

According to this site Ospina's contract expires in 2019 anyway. If that's right, I can't imagine he'd get or even want a new one with Arsenal. I'm happy enough with that.

EDIT: Rich mentioned Napoli having a clause to buy him on a permament deal worth £3.5m. If that is the case and Ospina's contract at Arsenal expires in 2019 I assume it must relate to the January window. But how long was the loan deal for? If it was the whole season, why would they waste £3.5m in January? Unless they're concerned about competition for him when he's free in the summer?

I think I read Napoli wanted Ospina in Jan because of a few injuries they had, but them activating the clause ahead of competition in the summer would make more sense

Maybe I went a bit far. I did have I have a spot or so of chilled white on board and its excruciatingly hot and dry down here.

But at least Spurs winning would be interesting, in a horror movies sort of way, and them winning would underline that our complacent "at least we're better than Spurs" attitude is well and truly exploded.

According to the Evening Standard Ospina's loan deal at Napoli was for the whole season.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.standa ... html%3famp

f they're willing to pay the buy out clause to get him on a permanent deal in January, it can only be to avoid competition as they could otherwise get him for free in the summer.

I suppose the buy out clause is peanuts anyway because I'm struggling to think of clubs of Napoli's stature who would go anywhere near Ospina in any other context than a back-up reserve.

You can probably tell that I didn't rate Ospina and I'm thus delighted he seems to be going.

At some point this season both Sokratis and Xhaka will get a 2 game ban for yellow card accumulation. They are only 4 yellows away from that.

More immediate concerns are Guendouzi and Torreira are only 1 yellow away from a 1 game ban. Considering the game after next is Liverpool away we can’t afford for either to pick up a card v Brighton on Boxing Day.

Wow. The swirv on the ball is crazy. Kinda reminds of billiards to some extent.

Didn't Tottenham look scary at Everton? It's very difficult to go to Everton and boss them like that. While I do see Tottenham as one of our roadblocks to a top 4 finish (along with Chelsea), I think title aspirations are a bridge too far this season. When they are on, they can beat anyone, even City. However, I do not see them consistent enough over a 38 game season to challenge for the title.
Liverpool look far better in terms of consistency. Liverpool can play sub-par to some extent and still eek out a win against decent sides. Not Tottenham unless its a bottom half of the table side.
Next season I think we will ultimately end up fearing Chelsea. Sarri has done a fantastic job so far. Again, they were 5th and 30 points behind City last season and he's turned them around immediately. When he gets a couple transfer windows to get the players he wants for his system, they are going to be title challengers again.
If Tottenham lose Poch, its done unless they can attract a top quality manager. I have a friend who said he wouldn't be surprised to see Man Utd get Poch and Mourinho eventually end up at Tottenham in a shock move. I'm not sure I can see that scenario playing out but it would definitely make things interesting and it's not out of the realm of possibility.
Right now, everyone above us has a better defense. A far better defense. Our attack is among the best up there in the CL challengers but everyone is pretty good and there isn't much difference between all of us. Defense is where we will lose it and the club didn't do right by Emery with the defense he's had to contend with.

Hopefully 1. He's good and 2. We get him if he's good.

Mkhitaryan ruled out for 6 weeks with a broken bone in his foot.

Getting really stretched now. I’d like Emery to use younger players in injury crisis, rather than out of position experienced player.

Really hoping this is a 4-3-1-2 with Xhaka in midfield and Özil in a no 10 role behind Lacazette and Aubameyang. Good lineup none the less.

Close. Aubameyang could have had three already.

He’ll need to if we continue to defend like that.

This team just does not want to lead at half-time.

Liesteiner shoukd have let the ball go over his head.

Classic arsenal. Early lead and then slack off, should and could have put the game to bed then hand an equaliser on a plate. Suddenly the crowd are up for it their players are up for it and what should be a stroll turns in to a game we could easily lose.

Which is more at fault, individual quality of defenders making mistakes or the defensive system leaving it liable to mistakes?

Bizarre how we can look so good and so bad in the same match - in so many matches. Really frustrating.

Brighton's strategy is very clear. Counter attack on our slow defence. Our 2 snails are there to be out paced, Xhaka and Kos.

Defensive system. Emery should address this at half-time.

On top but we never kill these teams off.
Then fall to inevitable sucker punch and get their crowd up.
So bloody infuriating

Comfortable, but still slow nowadays. He was comfortable with the ball closer to him. But when he needs to chase, that's a different story.

We have this bloody annoying propensity to include a couple of backwards , cross field passes which takes all the sting out of the attack . :8angers: . Lucky goalkeepers are protected species or we could be have been two down .

Well if it goes like the first half then we should score anytime soon.

Brighton are totally on top now. They just need to give us a daft goal.

When we do attack it’s in slow motion.

Perhaps the players are saving themselves for the Liverpool game. :20hospitals:
