Having said that the traditional Bernebeu is about as exciting as a multi-story car park.

It's actually really near the airport, but then the quickest way is to go into town and back out again. Well, I wasn't doing it the quick, sensible ( allegedly loong way, on the "map" ), I did it the short way ( as the crow flies ). Sadly not having the wings of a crow I had to go by public transport. It was grim.

From a certain angle the Bernabeu does look like a multi-story car park, No doubt. As does the San Siro.
They are putting a roof on it though, and cladding it. Which will change the look completely.

AND...it is individual. It is horrendous. But once you've been there you won't forget it, will you.
It looks impressive. It's lines, the structure, the symmetry. Certainly when you see it, and the huge Avenue there. A little bit 1930s/40s Fascisty in style, but awesome, nonetheless. When you know what's inside and what's been achieved there then it is a powerful bit of Architecture.

There is a statue of Gandhi on the other side of the road where I've had a smoke.

Apparently it was originally built as an Athletics stadium for the 1997 World Championships - which Madrid didn't get. It was then part of bid for the 2016 Olympics, which also failed, whereupon it was abandoned. AM took it over in 2013 and effectively re-built it, raising the capacity from 20k to 67k. Not surprising that it's all a bit lumpy.

I don't think that's fair.

He's a very specific talent. He's not a coward just that tackling isn't his strength and his game is about depectively getting into the right spaces and laying the ball off.

I really think it's hard to go to town on any specific player whilst Wenger is in charge. You could see a marked improvement under a different manager.

Also Cundy is a massive c u next Tuesday

Mail on 365 today

“Fairy tale over” bleats the headline on football365 this morning. Poor old Arsenal, plucky underdogs, doing really well until the bigger boys came.

Income from the Deloitte money league:

Arsenal £487m
Atletico £272m

Let’s not dress this up. Arsenal have failed miserably again and will take a long time to turn round years of mismanagement.

And it’s f***ing hilarious.

Not so much a chip on my shoulder, as being aware that when one conflates the Jews with "controlling the money", the insistence that it doesn't mean one is an anti-semite is rather hard to square. It is EXACTLY this lazy mindset which has got Labour into all sorts of a mess.

In the words of Ken Livingstone "I tell you who else thought the Jews controlled the money".

I could be wrong but isn't it all written in history. From the World of Banking the Rothchilds, Gold and diamonds, to the Sainsbury family etc etc the money followed the Jews did i not. I have no problem with this it is as Ken Livingstone would say fact? Whethwer he is right in his other claims I'm not that knowledgeable but I defend his right to have his beliefs as I have mine.

Babu you forgot the British in Cyprus, how very dare you lol. Should I hate them because they locked up and abused Cypriot Eoka fighters in the war of independence? Well sorry I don't, it's history and GB is being brought to book by people who were tortured during this period.

Liverpool and Real Madrid have an interesting history.
Still cheering for the Reds. Hate RM too much. They are no longer a football club but a marketing machine. They think they are above football.

Özil has always been sensitive. Arsenal supposedly analyzes a player's personality before buying them. His personality could easily have been sussed out.

Özil was never going to be a leader. I was a huge critic of him initially and he's convinced me over the years. He's improved in areas he hasn't. He's tougher. The English game forces you to. He's on the end of build ups more. Scoring more.

That said, in matches like this where he can't he doesn't want to meet the occasion that it calls for, sub him out. The problem with that is, he is so sensitive he might be on the phone to his agent wanting to leave.

We would have been better off selling Özil and taking back Cesc when he wanted out of Barca. Yes, we would have. And this time not try to build the team around Cesc but have him play the role that best suits the club. But that's water under London bridge.

I guess its up to the new manager on Özil's fate. We needed him to stay with Sanchez leaving. It would have been too big of a hit to morale if both left.

If we change our belief and have a squad that fights for a change, I think Özil will be okay. It will be difficult to be withdrawn as he does on occasion if everyone else around him is up for it.

Watched a video of a Canadian hippie getting lynched in Peru - was there for the ayahuasca experience.

People saying he killed a shamen and this was, like, an ancient indigenous vengeance and therefore OK.

Only it isn't an ancient custom to film somebody being throttled with a seatbelt and upload it to the internet.

My point?

I love Britain. I love our flawed democracy and our idiot customs. I love the fact we don't tend to lynch people. I love the fact that when injustices take place like Hillsborough and Stephen Lawrence we actually have enquiries into them and sometimes things change as a result. I am not a big nationalist, I could easily live in Chile, but I think we have magnificent traditions like motorway service stations, dogs outside polling stations, and going a bit mad when it's sunny. We used to have Saturday football too but that's another story.

I've seen countries where the rule of law breaks down and people get murdered by their neighbours it really isn't pretty.

Trick with a Pisco sour is to go heavy on the Pisco and light on the lime.

Sadly though I, on the other hand, am not too old for that nonsense, but Mrs. B has got the "lady flu"

Pisco is delicious it is like a light grappa. I drink Chilean Pisco for vaguely chauvinistic reasons but they nicked it off Peru in fairness.

Now I have stuffed my face with dumplings and lemon chicken so it's all going to plan.

I am definitely getting old because my daughter made me a birthday card with a picture of Neruda's house and saying Querido Papa because she knows I have a thing about Chile and I burst into tears.

Pisco sour.

3 ounces Pisco

1 ounce lime juice

1 ounce sugar syrup

Half an egg white

Shake over a ton of ice, pour and leave a few secs for egg white to rise, add a few drops of angostura and BOOM!

I agree.

You really have to know the laws ( and customs ) of the particular land you're in at the time.
I have been incredibly foolish in the past, but am still here, and now that CBD pot is legal to smoke here in CH I'm a lot more relaxed about things in general.

Actually the story of the Canadian guy is really sad and very indicative of where that whole new age/indigenous worship/ayahuasca stuff can get you. They were no innocents and were obviously taking the piss out of him royally in that ancient noble tradition of fleecing the stupid gringo and he obviously flipped out and they ended up throttling him.

But he had a nine year old kid he loved and the video of the lynching is repulsive.

Honestly? I am quite happy in suburbia watching football and drinking Pisco sours. *%^@ spiritual enlightenment.

I've just showed it to Mrs. B

She said it looked refreshing.
I then told her the white bit was egg-white.

Same reaction as I had. Heave!

Is the brown sprinkle on the top of my pic. chocolate or brown sugar or what?
I'm going to have to try it. It does look seriously...is "cool" the word I'm looking for?
Suave, sophisticated, etc.

Although I can imagine that after a couple of them and a xanax the 3rd attempt at making one would look like a bit of a mess.

Ok so go easy on the egg white because it's fine but you don't want it too frothy. The brown sprinkle is probably drops of angostura bitters that have spread out - that's what I make it with it is really lovely.

I have made loads in my time and you can get it seriously wrong. Too much lime and it's harsh, too much sugar and it's sickly, too much egg white...well let's not go there.

But a 3:1:1 ratio and properly mixed over ice and there are few things better. Mrs Daz LOVES them and it always puts her in a good mood. It's a giggly drink.

I once drank them in Latin America and played Cacho (Perudo/Liar dice) and got the drunkest I have ever been, walked into a tree and knocked myself out which might on reflection have been a good thing.

Brighton won?! hahaha...good job. At the pub I visited for our match at Old Trafford, the one or two Man Utd fans that I sat next to didn't like Mourinho. Liked Martial and can't understand why Jose won't play him so he can get his confidence back. They expect to lose Pogba and Martial in the summer.

Greetings Hoxton ..... I watched with mild interest from the 50th minute mainly as a sideline to having breakfast .

Hard to get excited about Arsenal these days , the three FA Cup finals and a fifteen minute spell to destroy Man U ... the rest has been pure drudgery .

Just read a book entitled " How Toyota became # 1 " and struck by the polar differences between Arsenal / Arsene Wenger and them .
Sakichi Toyoda started building wool looms , his son moved into cars .

[ 1 ] Toyota ..their main objective was NOT to become No 1 but to make a product that satified the customer ..... tippy tappy , laughable defence , lack of shots , Wenger out banners ; quarter empy stadium have shown we've failed dismally on that count .

[2] Toyota board meetings don't focus on the positives , they want to hear about negatives ..... any problems and how to fix them .

Contrast this with Wenger post match interviews , warm gushy twaddle about 75 % possession , good spirit , then it's on to tiredness from a previous fixture , state of the pitch , poor referees nah nah nah
and the classic "don't highlight a problem with a player because it could get worse " ......... asinine

[3] Every employee is encouraged to have input , any problems , views sort from all quarters .

Wenger when journalists asked about some Bould input benefitting the defence ; Arsene got snotty .

[4] They don't have a them and us mentality , the CEO , managers sit in the common staff canteen , no special parking places reserved , no exorbitant bonuses , pension schemes .

If Wenger had not been anal with Alexis, he would not have been gunning to leave. Alexis rightfully called out on the lack of attitude in the team. Wenger closed ranks with his softies and Alexis lost heart from there on. I blame Wenger for keeping the culture, thus keeping a team of softies lacking in fight. Özil has not been effective for months already. He had his change of heart too. He stayed on because Wenger gave him the bumper deal. But see what he dishes out?

Are you in possession of in the know information or being informed by frustration and prejudice? Alexis checked out when he realised we weren't going to challenge for the league, for which I don't blame him. However, he's never stayed anywhere for longer than he did at Arsenal, has never bonded with his team-mates at any club, and with not having had a summer off in about 6 years, looks to have a touch of his acceleration. He's been less productive for Utd than Welbeck has been in his absence.

Would he have helped in this tie? Probably, yes. But ironically so would ,Giroud or Walcott off the bench or even Debuchy.

The manager's going. Everyone knows it's the right call. But Alexis making it clear he was off really wasn't the end of the world.

Are you in possession of in the know information or being informed by frustration and prejudice? - I'll let you decide on that :icon_mrgreen:

Good point that Giroud, Walcott or Debuchy would have improved the lot in the tie.

I didn't realise there was such a big gap in goal difference. Just looked it up and Arsenal are +19 and Burnley are +3, which is basically worth an extra point. I think that shows goal difference is relevant throughout the season. But what I noticed from the table was that currently there are only seven teams with a positive goal difference. The first seven teams, City down to Burnley. The other thirteen all have negative goal differences and I'd say with -3 only Leicester look like they might finish with a positive goal difference. The next 'least bad' goal difference is Newcastle with -9.
