In one off games anything can happen, and often does. Worse teams than Arsenal have beaten better sides than City many times. This year Watford, a worse team than Arsenal, beat Liverpool, a better side than City this season. Such examples have happened so often if you wanted to list them all, it would be a bigger document than Tolstoy’s War and Peace.

We beat Liverpool after being outplayed and the same might happen again. Maybe a couple of City players will make bad errors to give us a goal or two, as happened with Liverpool. Perhaps a terrible refereeing or VAR decision will go in our favour. Or could we get it to penalties and win the shoot out? Why not?

I understand that we are the massive underdogs and I doubt even Lord Lucan with his gambling addiction, if he’s still alive somewhere, would be putting a fiver on an Arsenal win. But despite City being huge favourites, we do have a chance. Even if it’s a very slim one.

Good man, Bern. Well said.

Bring em on - money-doped arrivistes that they are.

Bastards.

First 10 minutes suggest this is going to be a long and difficult night.

Damn great chance for Aubameyang. We need to be taking those chances as they will probably be few and far between.

Thought we'd missed such a big chance from Aubameyang, but then another one comes in, far more difficult and Aubameyang tucks it away from the Pépé cross.

1-0 to The Arsenal! HOLD!

The goal comes from Arsenal passing out from the back.

It is obviously an incredibly dangerous tactic against their high press but if you watched the highlights when we played them at the Etihad there were 2-3 occasions we got it right and played it through their press and would have had great chances if the final pass was seen or better.

It feels like you have to be brave to beat City, you also have to be perfect.......and probably lucky

Comms saying Jesus just had an off the ball kick out at Pépé - I assume no VAR review obviously

Shows what we can do when we play a footballing team and not a team of repeat offending cloggers asasisted by the refs.

We could have been 2 even 3-0 up.

It'll be a different side that comes out in the second half. Kompany would never have let us off for so long..................

Arsenal 3 shots, 3 shots on target
City 5 shots, 0 on target

Only 38% possession but how long have we waited for Arsenal to have the ability to do this.

It is a deserved lead

Tough start to the game but we've done very well since that excellent finish from Aubameyang. Lots of hard work ahead in the second half.

Magnificent half by our guys. Every single one has played a blinder in my view, with Xhaka playing such a blinder he’ll need a guide dog as well as a white stick. The commentators said he had a monumental half. They’re right.

Worst moment in that half for me was the eventual pass back to the goalie from an attcking situation near to their goal.

Why do we still keep doing it......................

We have grown in confidence after taking the lead. Keep it up in the 2nd half.
Pépé's cross was very good. More of these please. And a very good finish from Aubameyang.

My guess is Arteta knows the opposition well so much easier to set up tactics against them. I don't care what the reason is, we look solid. Even despite the inevitable Mustafi mistake.

We should have had a 2nd goal, truth be told. We'll see what half time adjustments Pep make. They will be a different side probably. I am hoping we can counter. We have a decent amount of pace up top with Aubameyang, Pépé, Lacazette and Tierney and Bellerin are not turtles.

Well, a few years ago we went through what even Gooners would deem an impossible semis and finals and we took it all. Could happen again.

Empty Wembley must be weird place to play. We need to keep going on the front foot, some of these City players are slow, and for the first time we're not outmatched on height at corners, both ends! Ainsley marking Mahrez is nice, he's been a bit hit and miss up front, missed a good Tierney overlap with a bad pass, and crossed it to their keeper on his left, but I like his pace and energy at the back. Would like to see Saka introduced if someone tires to give them some more headaches!

Arteta should know his opposition better. He was at City 3 years.

Arteta shouting in french to Pépé. Astonishingly impressive. Working in at least three languages coaching this team. Great save from martinez!

Worth watching the goal again. Arsenal made 13 passes in our own defensive third, under a constant press from City, eventually Luiz found space to work it wide to Tierney - good ball in to Lacazette and play was immediately spread right to Bellerin/Pépé in acres of space.

This is exactly how coaches work to move through the high press, calm and quick ball movement and the space will open as the opposition go out of defensive shape, then switch the play where the space is

Seems like AMN was picked specifically to deal with Mahrez. A right footed left wing back to deal with a right winger who comes in on his left.

I'm not Mustafi's biggest fan but that was no penalty. Incidental contact. Good decision.

Well he’s done enough to see Mahrez off so let’s see how things pan out now.

In real time I thought Aubameyang was offside. We needed that. Although the team defense has been great, we still needed that badly.
