Can’t see Liverpool doing us any favours here.

They really have struggled to find team mates with their passing

When Rodri was booked it said it was only his 4th booking of the season - I couldn’t believe it. But then he did virtually the same cyclical pull back n a counter and he didn’t get his second yellow and I now understand how he’s only got 4 yellows.

I kind of understand the ref not wanting to make such a controversial decision but that second foul is a yellow card and Rodri should be off

The way city press teams and pen them in is quite spectacular

It is, when they have their tails up but when they don’t Liverpool have gone through them at least 3 times.
Liverpool need to go longer when the e press is so suffocating.

That was actually a very high quality half of football from both teams. Enjoyable to watch

2-1 City oh well. Absolutely acres of space for them there.

I do think that’s where the offside rule is a bit unfair. De Bruyne in the middle of the pitch is a long way offside, instead the ball goes wide to an onside player who then squares it to de Bruyne to tap in unchallenged - and he’s unchallenged because he’s so far ahead of the defence in the centre having been offside

Forever the exception as with countless examples where Arsenal have been treated with the full force and nuance of the law never to be repeated again

Well, at least we should hold no fear when playing Liverpool, they are a shambles in midfield. No legs, no mobility and no calmness on the ball. Another reason why Liverpool should be going more direct - just bypass their own clearly weaker midfield

Clear dive from Gakpo. If the ref rightly doesn’t give a penalty why is he so scared to book Gakpo for diving

Sounds like Saka is on the bench today.

Possible front line of Martinelli, Jesus, Trossard

Ramsdale, white, holding, Gabriel, Zinchenko, Partey, Xhaka, Ødegaard, Martinelli, Jesus, Trossard

Walters on the bench with Saka

City are in title mode. If someone said they could run the table for the rest of the season, I wouldn't say its absurd. Unlikely? Sure. But not absurdly so.

Can we maintain 4 or more points with 3 or 4 games left? It's a very tall order.

Totally agree, Rich. No player should gain an advantage in the 2nd phase of play by being offside in the 1st phase of play.

Otherwise there's no point in trying to play offside.

No a great result. Liverpool lose and gift City goals to increase their goal difference. Double whammy.

Saka felt unwell which is why he’s on the bench.
He needs a rest anyway after being flogged on international duty as well as playing virtually every game this season. Leeds at home - we shouldn’t need him but we can’t take the game lightly.
Gives him a good rest before Liverpool next week - let’s hope Liverpool give up in that game as they have done in this woeful 2nd half today. Wide open all over the pitch

Otherwise there's no point in tring to play offside.

It is a strange one, he’s 3 yards offside and when he taps it in he’s 3 yards ahead of the defender trying to get back at him. He has gained an advantage by being offside but the rules show he’s not interfering and then a new phase of play starts. It’s the same for everyone but it must be hell to defend against, you just can’t really attempt to play a forward offside anymore.

No matter what state Liverpool are in, we have always found it very tough to get a win there. We are in 2 different directions presently but they are still very tough for Arsenal teams traditionally.

City are destroying sides these days. The media, I fear, is setting us up with all the title talk about us.

(as an aside, which makes '89 so much more special)

In normal circumstances you'd take a point at Liverpool and probably at Newcastle but if we lose at City that may not be enough.

Uninspiring first 20 minutes. Leeds posing a threat and looking neat and tidy.

Play is slow. We need to pick up the pace.

In the moment, penalty, but on replay I may not give it if I was objective.

Jesus one of the few in our team who really ‘knows’ how to win a penalty

Other than Saka, Jesus' footwork is a huge plus to have back.

True Soc we were pretty sheight ... so bloody ponderous . The penalty seems to have relaxed the players the corsets have come off and we are flowing a bit .

Commentator just said Jesus has never lost a premier league game in which he has scored .
