Beating Barcelona 2-1 is right up there. That was Barca at the height of their powers. One of the greatest sides of all time. We rode our luck but it was a fantastic win.

The worst was losing to Chelsea. We were the best team in Europe at the time.

I can't really bring myself to include a good first leg or 2nd leg in a tie that overall we lost. Seems like enjoying the icing on a dog turd birthday cake

On the night it was a great win; but I think it's overegged a bit as Barcelona did lose a few games away in Europe in those days if I remember correctly. They were of course peerless at Camp Nou.

Whilst we are on a roll..

My favourite ever 3 Wenger decision making moments (not results) that prove he was unquestionabley the best manager in the world 98-2004

1) The striker switch

Buying Anelka for 500k selling him for 23million and using half the money to build a state of the art training facility and the other half to sign the greatest player club has ever had!!

Could Ferguson have done such a thing ? COULD HE HELL!!!!

2) the whole summer before the invincible thingy.

The club had no money for players and the mirror ran an article with headline "their broke!" Or something similar over a picture of Wenger and Gary Lewin. In desperate need of a keeper and new centre half Wenger signed a slightly mad and ageing German keeper and moved an unknown African midfield player to centre half and then promptly went THE WHOLE *%^@*** SEASON UNBEATEN!!!

Could Ferguson have done that ? Yeah right my Arse!!!!

3) The Gran Canarian holiday

Imagine being sat on a beach in the Canaries on holiday sipping a cool beverage enjoying the sea when your wife hands you a newspaper with the headline in massive letters "Wenger sells Overmars and petit !!!!"
Out of the blue our 2 best players at that time sold and it just seemed mental and there was no way back as all the good work had been undone. 1 month later Robert Pires and another unknown African arrive for half the money Mark and Manu went for and the team proceed to GIVE EVERYONE IN THE LEAGUE A COMPLETE BUMHOLING FOR THE NEXT FEW YEARS!!!

Could Ferguson have pulled that off ? No chance !!!

I can't think of the Barca win as 'up there'. It was exhilarating at the time, but it was the exhilaration of dodging a bullet and using up all nine lives at once. Our inferiority complex was very much in place by then, and the luck ran out in the second leg.

So who fancies Luis Enrique??
Have to say I'm not overly keen. Did a great job at Barcelona but is that such a great barometer.
Most managers do win at Barcelona with the players they have got there so I'm not utterly convinced.
Just read some mails on football 365 and someone mentioned Unai Emery the outgoing PSG manager.
That's not a bad shout.
Was it 2 or 3 Europa league trophies in a row??
Did wonders with a tight budget . Definitely worth considering.
I just think to compete with the moneybags of city and utd , you need someone who can bleed every drop of effort and resource out of this squad and galvanise his squad to fight for him and happy to work with a reasonable budget. We certainly don't need a cheque book manager.
Not sure Enrique is that man.
Benitez , Jardim , Allegri , Simeone , Nagellsmann.
Would be happy with any of those.

Agreed Granty
His record before Barca is pretty average.
If rumours are true we can get someone better than him than to give him 15 million a year.
Initially I thought Enrique might be a good option until someone pointed out his pre Barca record. I agree with the rest of what you said though. Particularly with the current moddy coddled bunch they need someone a bit tougher who will demand more effort. Someone like Klopp who can instill belief, even if all the players aren't world beaters. Allegri would have to be the pick of the bunch but can't see him moving unless we win the EL.

No Costa in starting lineup. Özil and Jack play. Čech on bench.

Wow. Unbelievable. Their right back has picked up two yellows in the first 10 minutes. Brave and correct reffing

Oh my. Atletico down to 10 men.

Not sure the second yellow was a yellow.....but it is a naughty one on the ankle but it is just a tiny split second too late.

Massive call from the ref. No question on the first yellow card.

Huge break for us. We Have to make this count tonight

Someone going mental. He’s sent off as well.

He was asking for a yellow for Bellerin for a nothing foul.

Need to not do anything silly and give the ref the chance to even this up.

If any team in Europe is good enough to defend this out for a 0-0 with 10 men for 80 mins it is Atletico

There is two dangers here .....
[a ] we don't go into cruise mode and start f*&&^^ around at the back thinking we have a ton of time to score
[ b ] don't make any stupid challenges and give the ref a chance to balance the ledger , which they subconsciously try to do

Lacazette goes down theatrically but I have seen them give as pens.

I suppose we’ve had our big break from the ref already

Feels like the next 20 mins until half time are huge in this tie.

If we can make the most of our momentum and get the lead before half time we could go on and completely take control of the tie and keep the fans rocking for the second half.

If Atletico weather the storm to half time it will be a huge confidence boost to them

Didn’t say it was a pen. Just that I have seen those given. Striker engineering contact and going over a loose leg from the defender.

Have you seen dele alli play?

The time wasting over every restart is terrible. Ref needs to get on top of it early.
