That is very, very sad news.

There was a time, when he first arrived, that I thought he was on par with Ronaldo and could go on to achieve great things with us as the next big thing after Henry.

Henry never seemed to take to him for some reason and it just never worked out.

My heart goes out to his family. RIP

He leaves behind three children. My heart goes out to them, all the family, but especially them. Just tragic.

I just remember those stares he used to give Reyes when he didn't give him the ball or misplaced a pass. It was all a little odd. Maybe there was nothing in it.

Jose Antonio Reyes RIP
Will never forget the excitement when we signed him.
He made a slow start and the total joy for him when he scored those 2 crackers v chelsea. His first goals for us.
Exciting great player.
Only 35
Tragic

That's because he was on a par with Ronaldo in those early days. Of course, Ronaldo's development was stratospheric but in terms of sheer talent Reyes was right up there at a very high level. I don't think he had the personality to maximise that talent but when on sing he was a glorious footballer. There is the story of one his first games for Sevilla against Madrid and Zidane came off the pitch wanting to know who this kid was.

Desperately sad new. He was a favourite of mine. Saw him once with his entourage of attractive women shopping in Bluewater. He had the world at his feet for a fleeting moment.

Stan Kroenke sitting out the trip to Baku sums things up nicely. I know Josh was there last night, but this was Arsenal’s biggest game in a decade. Would it have made a difference, no. But you still make the effort. An absent owner in every way.

This was from Charlie Watts 2 days ago, stating Josh K was in Baku. I know there were some doubts.

Yes, I remember those stares. It was probably all part of making it clear to young Jose that he needed to be 100% to play in that great side, and mostly he did perform like a champion. Henry was equally hard on himself when he made mistakes, not that he often did. Talking of errors, I recall Dennis shooting over once by about twenty yards and the brilliant Highbury crowd within seconds singing "What the *%^@*** hell was that?".

It is always hard to see a young man die, especially if like Reyes, he made football a pleasure. Not wishing to get morbid, but in 2001 the death of the talented Niccolo Galli at just 17 years of age got to me. An exceptional defender in our Youth Cup winning team, with the world at his feet. He was just a couple of years older than my son, which probably made it hit the emotional mark.

OMOH, did you see that Alan Skirton died on 11th May? He was before my time, but you presumably saw him. He was 80 when he died.

Awful news about Reyes. Far too young.

Agree with those who said there was a moment with us when he looked like he could eclipse virtually any player in the prem. I think it was the start of the 04/05 season he was absolutely unplayable. Pace, dribbling, incisive and a magic left foot. What we wouldn’t give for a player of his quality on our left wing now. Strangely Reyes played for us in the days where the 4-4-2 was widely used, if he’d peaked during the times of the 4-3-3 I think he was perfect for either wide forward position.

I remember his rocket v Chelsea, that goal v Boro, the winner v spurs the day before I did a tour of Highbury and Charlie George was raving about him.

Heard there will be a minute silence before the champions league final tonight. Very very sad

Obviously want Liverpool to win tonight. Can’t decide how I want them to win.
A) 7-0 to totally humiliate spurs and make them want to never talk of even reaching the final ever again
B) 2-1 with 2 stoppage time goals from the Ox to snatch it from them at the last moment

I think it had to be A)

Most mediocre is not the same as worst. I seem to remember this debate ...

No way Kane should be starting this game. Surprised they started Winks as well. Not heard his name once so far.

Spurs best chance was to sit deep and counter using son and moura’s pace

Surely looking at Liverpool’s fullbacks give us hope ? Totally affordable

Competent, not perfect but tons of energy and enthusiasm. Keep it simple. Really this is all we need

They're a bit better than competent to be fair. Arnold is a cracking player.

Bit of a snore fest so far. Spurs had some dangerous opportunities but lacking quality in final third. I'd be raging if that pen was given against Arsenal, penalty decision for that is harsh imo.

He is, but I remember him being a liability for them when they came to our place and we should have won. Him and the Brazilian chap in midfield whose name escapes me. We got change out of them both all game. Not completely dissimilar to Bellerin vs Dortmund where he had a shocker on debut. Both have made the step from academy player to first team and that’s gold dust we need lots of over the next few seasons.

I was hoping for a meteor strike, but I don’t really want to joke about disaster right now. Liverpool one more goal and stifle the life out of the game will do. Just make it no fun at all. How miserable - what has football done to me..

I'd like to see a decent game hopefully will improve second half.
