Blimey, they now look like Wenger's team from 2010 onwards!!

Interesting set of results tonight, the expected team went through but both showed vulnerability and were given a scare.

There is no reason we can’t win this entire tournament. The only two teams who haven’t shown any vulnerability so far in the champions league are us and Inter Milan. They beat us 1-0 in the group stage but it was a stalemate type game decided by a harsh penalty. Arsenal and Inter have the best defences by some distance of the teams left.

I’ve seen people say if Madrid get in front and get confident they could run through us but I think we’re too mature for that, they might get in front but no team has run us ragged for 3 seasons, we’ve lost games sure but we haven’t been dominated and smashed. Madrid have to do to us things that this Arsenal team simply haven’t let happen for so long.

Get through Madrid and PSG are vulnerable no doubt.

I will just wait and see if we can beat Real and get thru. Forever scarred by that Newcastle game.

Such a weird take. Says we have no chance of beating PSG if we get past Madrid, says Madrid’s best player this season has been Dani Ceballos ‘he makes them tick’, and there are ‘a lot better teams than Arsenal left in the competition’

We may get knocked out, we may not win the whole thing but the disrespect on our club is astonishing and so out of kilter with how other English teams are talked about and treated in European competitions where pundits and commentators can barely contain their bias and over the top enthusiasm and desperation for them to win

Mate, FFS stop reading all these articles. Just take it as read that people hate us. By the end of the season we will know how good or bad we are. Just don't give a flying f... what others think.

Timber, Rice, Partey and Martinelli all one booking away from a semi final first leg suspension if we get there. It’s incredibly harsh that you can accumulate just 3 yellow cards in 12 games and be suspended for a semi final.

An enthralling contest last night. After shooting themselves in the foot early on Villa arguably had enough chances to have gone through and really rattled PSG.

PSG are technically brilliant and very skillful and pacy in transition but Villa almost exploited a definite vulnerability in their back line.

Every team left in the competition is flawed in some way. Barca looked to be coasting after the 1st leg but could have been in trouble last night.

In the end, it may just boil down to that element of luck, a mistake or a piece of individual brilliance.

It's just stupid Rich and devalues the semis.

Squeaky bum time tonight.

Madrid are not a vintage Madrid side but in Mbappe and Vini Jr they possess genuine game-changers who could produce something really special at any given moment.

It could be a long 90 mins.

After watching PSG last night I would say that there are not a lot of better teams than Arsenal left in the competition, all have their flaws and weaknesses as well as some obvious strengths and if Madrid went through tonight I would make them favorites.

I think you have to read the bad takes as well as the good takes so you know what good (or fair and honest) looks like. It doesn’t wind me up as much as you think, I don’t spend the day seething at Geoff Shreeves - I’m far more interested in the why. If it’s taken as read that we’re hated what exactly are the reasons, and a reason that you can’t label at any other big club.
The only thing I can come up with is that it’s easy journalism whilst we are nearly men, it sells more. If we were genuinely successful their job would be harder.

Interestingly Thierry Henry did a very critical piece of analysis on Yoro on MNF after their 4-1 defeat to Newcastle - for me it wasn’t a great piece of analysis and should have focussed more on the team defence than an individual- but his analysis had Man U fans fuming, calling him out and his bias against Man U. Perhaps now they know how we feel on a weekly basis having Carragher and Neville and their biased takes. Singling out a £60m young defender in a 4-1 defeat for a team that is 14th in the table seems far more palatable than calling out a young defender who just scored his first senior goal in a 5-1 win v the champions and who was unfairly sent off.

Penny for Ollie Watkins thoughts, denied a January move to Arsenal the club he’s supported and his dream move, and if he had signed would likely be starting every game for us including a CL QF v Real Madrid and instead he’s been pushed to the bench for Rashford in both of Villa’s CL QF games. Surely his chance of that last big move of his career has gone now

If we get through PSG will be favourites but marginally so. They are not a team I'd fear. They are young and technically very very good but there is a lack of experience and leadership as evidenced by the way they almost blew it against a mid table Premier league club.

I hope it is a 90 minute game with 2 goals or less the entire game :42laughter:

In the build up to tonight all that seems to have been said is ‘it’s Madrid, in the Bernabeu….they can turn it round’ - but not actually anything on how they will, how will they correct what went wrong last week, how will they counter Arsenal’s tactics etc. because whilst Madrid have some good individuals they were thoroughly outplayed and tactically out thought.

Merino or Trossard? I can see arguments for both. Merino is more a physical presence and better at holding the ball up and likes scoring against Real. Trossard is better on transitions which might be key for us.

How many of our team have experienced the Bernabeau before
I’m guessing Partey Merino and Odegard

Alaba on an early yellow card for a really bad foul on Saka. Get the ball to Saka!

Crickey. We need to hold it together now. The ref seems a bit hair-trigger.
